Palin & Family Guy

The only problem people in this thread have with S.P. is that she has the bad taste to carry her Down Syndrome son around with her and that she calls out comics for using her family for their punch lines?

Which member of the family that is not Sarah Palin is the reference in the punch line?

Again, I ask, where is the insult? There's a clear difference between "make fun" and "insult". The joke is a reference to Sarah Palin. I do not see any insult. Why the hell is she so insulted? What? She can't be mentioned as a reference?????

Didn’t you know just being referenced on “The Family Guy” is an insult and a joke? The person (or people) referenced might seem to think it constitutes the former while the writers seem to like to think it’s the latter. Myself I tend to just go with “It’s just another insult of a joke reference on the “The Family Guy””.

Apparently, you didn't see the episode..or you disagree that a person with down syndrome could be intelligent, independent and beautiful.

If the cartoon character on "Family Guy" that AFF was doing the voice over for is yours or JFrankA's notion of beauty then your bar for beauty has a bizarre standard. The character was also much more oppressive than intelligent.

Now you are saying there is an objective standard of beauty? And that it includes caricatures being "more beautiful" than a more realistic depiction?

By remaining silent, she can take a joke, but if she responds she can't? So she could take the joke about "The Family Guy" depicting her as a Nazi?

Now you're getting the idea. Good boy.

You are being absurd. S.P. would be the target of obsessed libs if she were a liberal? The only problem people in this thread have with S.P. is that she has the bad taste to carry her Down Syndrome son around with her and that she calls out comics for using her family for their punch lines?

Oh, and Bill Clinton is never made fun of? Neither is Obama, nor Ted Kennedy (Oh, no, no one EVER made fun of his drinking problem!).

Stop making this a political thing. Sarah Palin can't take a joke and/or she is using her children to get attention. Yes, she ignored the Nazi joke, don't know why she ignored that but now screaming about simply being referenced. Perhaps, (and just a guess here), she was advised not to say anything by campaign advisers.

Now she can just react the way she wants. I don't deny her the right to do so, but making a mountain out of a little stupid reference joke says volumes about her character. No, she cannot take a joke, further, she uses her children as a way to get sympathy and attention.

That has nothing to do with her political stance.

You don't care whether people are laughing at you or with you. OK. You do not take obese jokes/insults directed at you personally? OK. You never felt compelled to go on the offensive and offer any quips to your persecutors. OK. Your way of maintaining, or not maintaining, your self-respect, dignity, and honor was to pretend that these jokes were not personal. OK.

Yeah, don't I sound like a great guy???? :)

And what you learned from this experience is that you refuse to give the benefit of the doubt to S.P. that she feels obliged to answer when her family is caught up in jokes/insults made by media types to get at S.P., and that because S.P. doesn't follow your personal prescription for handling endless "jokes," she is just being a poor sport without any sense of humor.

It's interesting how you know me so well, and you can still miss the point. :)

If you believe this then you must have spent a lot of time looking under your pillow for Tooth Fairy coins.

Is that yet another CT you're trying to push?

The "jokes" made about your obesity were not in bad taste? Would the ones in bad taste be considered insults? Would you want Letterman around your children?

1) Depends. But they were funny. :)

2) Maybe. Who cares? The people who are insulting me and who don't know me aren't worth the attention. The people who do matter will talk to me personally....then joke about my weight. I joke about my weight. Then and I still do it now.

Am I insulting myself....?

3) Yes. I like the guy. I think it would be cool for my son to meet him. Why wouldn't I?

Do you really believe that Letterman's true opinions/beliefs are not at the heart of some of his "jokes?' What S.P. said was damn funny. If it gets a laugh, what is the difference?

I'm sorry, I don't know what you are talking about here. If you are referring to her response to Letterman's offer to come on the show, then you are dreaming. That, in no way, was a joke.

Where has S.P. ever bothered to negatively respond to anyone saying they "lost respect for her?" Besides, if you ever had a chance to get on TV and rant it would probably be about Southwest Airlines.

You do know me!!! I'd rant about Southwest Airlines. :) (Kicking a woman off the plane because her skirt is too short...sheesh!)

....I'm sorry, was there an insult somewhere in there? :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Chris thought she was beautiful.........

I noticed that you still haven't answered the question:

Where is the insult????????????

considering how most characters are drawn on family guy, she wasn't drawn ugly.

You also consider the character to be beautiful. You and Chris have similar tastes. Sine you didn't think that fellow classmates disparaging your adiposity was an insult, why would anyone expect you to recognize any remark as an insult.

The Man recognizes the dynamics of "Family Guy." When will you?

I think she is shooting for an extra minute of fame to sell her book or land a job on Fox.

And if she landed the job on Fox, she is just trying to stay in the public mind.

Here's a little secret, Cicero- no one can insult you unless you decide to be insulted.

See what a great guy I am???? I am the type of the person who looks beyond the outside looks, or I find beauty where no one can, or just an all around nice guy!!!!

Thank you for the compliment!!! :)

Honestly, I don't like Family Guy. Don't watch it. But I do appreciate humor.

So you only think really thin people with big heads are attractive?

Really thin? Are her bones showing? Sort of a staple for cartoon characters/caricatures to have over-sized craniums. But in comparison to how MacFarlane drew the androgynous AFF character, you betcha.
