Obama: Lipstick on a Pig

If she looked like Nancy Pelosi she would still be a small-town school board member.
GASP! You sexist pig!

...Oh no wait... You're right.

Republicans/McCain supporters: Honest question: Do you think Palin would have been picked by McCain if she were the same person with the same history, but looked and sounded exactly like Janet Napolitano?

I'm really surprised at the number of people who claim it wasn't a reference at all to Palin, more of a incidental common figure of speech. With how tightly orchestrated all formal remarks are, especially during the final stretch of a campaign, there is no way something with the word 'lipstick' is off-the-cuff. My guess is that it was very deliberate, and stated in nearly the exact same context that McCain delivered it against Hillary so as to insulate Obama from criticism (fail so far 'cause we all like a good catfight). Anyway, no big deal, I still like Obama and this thing is gonna blow over in a few days.

I also think we're focusing too much on McCain and Obama as victims. Nobody's talking about the pigs. C'mon people, what about the pigs? It's morally reprehensible! They didn't ask for this.

Obama was using the phrase "lipstick on a pig" long before McCain picked Sarah Palin for the VP slot. Nobody made a fuss about it back then.

I hear there's a new joke flying around Obama's headquarters:

"What's the difference between bull :rule10 and moose :rule10?"

"Lipstick."

Maybe that's the problem. McCain doesn't remember Obama's having said it before, or was not paying attention.

Hmm..old dude with memory problems. Haven't we seen that movie before, like about 28 years ago?

That's all she is, really. She has no bright fresh ideas. She's a babe. Eye candy. Guys are falling in behind her because she is charming.

If she looked like Nancy Pelosi she would still be a small-town school board member.
Wait, remind me what "bright fresh ideas" your VP candidate brings?

Who needs bright and fresh when so many of our problems are the result of greedy morons who dismantled the tried and true policies that have worked well since 1932?

Had that idiot Phil Gramm not pushed to undo the controls FDR put on the mortgage lenders during the First Great Republican Depression, we would not be paying the debts of Fannie Mae now.

So how did Biden get to where he is today without any bright and fresh ideas? Shouldn't he be on some small-town schoolboard somewhere?

Even more to the point, McCain was using the phrase long before Palin. He even used it in reference to Hillary's health care plan. Was he calling her a pig? I'm retrospectively outraged!

In case you haven't noticed, Biden is bright. He knoiws that you don't break stuff that is working as an excuse to try something invented by a discredited intellectual who has never proven that his BS can work.

The neo-cons want to replace the New Deal with Chicago School ideology. Ask the Chileans how well that works.

You are correct, McCain did use that phrase.

But that was before he had a lady with delicate sensibilities on the ticket.

And that's the whole deal. How can any Republican be outraged by Obama's use of the phrase without being equally outraged by McCain's? How can they accept such a pack of lies and hypocrisy?

Oh. I forgot. Karl Rove. This smells like his handiwork.

Now that's funny. I mean hah-hah funny. Because I always thought Nancy Pelosi was hot, especially considering her age.

Her politics are idiotic, but if she were closer to my age (or vice versa), I'd be fantasizing about knocking the bottom out of her. How many of you knew she was 68 years old?

I have to disagree, primarily because, and I shouldn't say this, I don't think she's hot. I don't think she's a babe. My primary visual exposure to her was during her convention speech, and I think they may have deliberately played down her good looks by putting her in an outfit that wasn't sexy, and a hairstyle that wasn't sexy. Maybe in a bikini she's one beautiful babe. I don't know. I've never seen her in one, and I hope I never do. Not that I don't like to look at girls in bikinis, or think she wouldn't be good looking in one, but I just don't picture middle aged conservative Christian governor of Alaska posing in a bikini.

Her words from her speech had a very powerful appeal that many do not understand, and they would have had just as much of an appeal to those listening on the radio.

Meanwhile, back to the topic directly, it's embarrassing to live in a country that spends so much time debating whether or not a metaphor is sexist because it used the word "lipstick". I'm pretty sure this wasn't the first time Obama used this particular metaphor. It's ridiculous to think that because she said "lipstick" no one else can say "lipstick".

The Republicans have been trying to scrap the New Deal (which actually made a large middle class possible) since Nixon. Defending the institutions that work is as important, perhaps more so, as inventing new institutions. When the basis of our whole society is in danger, preserving it is a noble cause.

What is wrong with standing up for what we know works when we have morons like Grover Norquist trying to tear it all down?

Gawd, how I love you Dimcrats. Every election it's the same thing. You keep looking down your intellectual noses at the eeeeevil stooopid Repubs, then wake up on election day with your backs in a ditch wondering "How did we lose to that guy???"

I love you guys.

No, he only looks that way because he plagiarizes from bright people.

But he's clean and articulate, though.

One serious criticism. He's an awful parent. When his wife died, leaving him a single parent with two small boys, he didn't resign his seat to take care of them.

Goose, gander, etc.

Palin is 44. Nancy Pelosi was 47 in 1987 when she was first elected to the House of Representatives. She was totally hot!

Maybe the question should be if Nancy Pelosi in 1987 hadn't looked like Sarah Palin does today, would she be the Speaker of the House?

Obama: So what can I say about these policies?

Advisor1: How about something like, "No matter how thin you slice it, it's still baloney!"

Obama: No, too lame, but yeah along those lines.

Advisor2: How about, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!"

Obama: Yeah, although we have used that before.

Advisor1: Whoa, guys! "Lipstick?" "Pig?" After Palin recycled that old woman-lawyer joke, using hockey mom instead? People will think you're talking about her!

Advisor2: Oh, yeah, you're right.

Obama: Wait a minute, though. We've already used the phrase...

Advisor1: So has McCain, in fact, when discussing Hillary.

Obama: Right. So if they make the connection, it's them, not us. This is a common phrase we've both used before Palin was in the picture. They'll just be over-reacting!

Adivisor2: Sort of like that middle finger itch you did when talking about Hillary. It didn't mean anything, wink wink!

Advisor1: Over-reacting, just like they claim the PC crowd does!

Advisor2: And like how they claim it's sexist for how "tough" Palin is being treated, even though Palin herself criticized Hillary for perceived whining about the same thing.

Obama: Uh, what does that have to do with anything?

Advisor2: I don't know, Snide just wanted to throw it in there as a gratuitous mention of the hypocrisy.

Obama: Oh, OK. Well, let's go with it, then!

Advisor1: OK, but throw in another analogy, just to make it look like you're just spouting off cliches and that there's no double meaning intended. Something about how the policies stink, like rotten fish.

Obama: Right, right. Work on that...
