The trouble is that the number of people who can actually afford it shrinking faster than a speeding bullet. adn the only people who are for the system are those, like your cousin who profit by it, or those who have been lucky enough to have not been screwed over by it YET!!

well, until we lost our super-majority, no last attempt was gonna be made to get GOP involvement.
but, now that we are vulnerable to filibuster, the Dems are gonna give the GOP one more shot. but if they fail, its reconciliation we will go. and there is nothing wrong with that.

The House passes the current Senate bill, and then the Senate Democrats change the bill to meet the House Democrats' needs, and then vote on it again. This measure cannot be filibustered, as it already passed a first Senate vote.
sorry bud. you guys used this method to pass the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, and the oil drilling in ANWAR. so now we will use it to pass health-care reform.

Democrats don't. It's kind of hard for them to have broad vision when they're in the murky underwater of upcoming electoral doom.
Teddy Kennedy found out about the underwater vision thing at a little place called Chappaquiddick. All Democrats come to it eventually.

Look at what happened when Obama spoke at the GOP Q&A. The GOP was schooled.
on the contrary, I believe the show of courage and determination will insure our success.
the GOP was counting on the Dems simply giving into GOP lies and fear-mongering...and just letting health-care reform die. it was to be the GOP's silver bullet for November.
Now, the GOP will have to pray that their intransigence will get votes.

meanwhile, the Dems can say: "we didn't get everything we wanted but its damn better than the status-quo and the American people will be much better off because of it".

No doubt then, you favor this course of action. We can agree on that.
(Only, I disagree on the consequences. Passing healthcare reform, even better with a public insurance option, not only is better policy, but also an electoral winner. Dems are suffering politically due to demonstrated weakness. Nothing would help more than kneeing the GOP/Lieberman in the nuts.)

It's amazing that there are democrats who seriously think like this.
Well, it would certainly be a change from the backroom deals, the bribing of senators to vote for it, reneging on the promise to have the debated televised, the Christmas-day vote to get the bill "in" before the shaky majority for the bill collapsed, and so on.
If there is one thing the Democratic party is NOT about this deal, it is "confident". It knows very well it's a huge stinker that the American people don't want. Only now, when the backroom deals, bribery (morally, if not legally), and secrecy approach to this thing fell through, they are suddenly once more Mr. Clean-and-Open.

What? Use reconciliation? It's been used 20-some times since 1980. It was used 5 times during the Bush administration. 6 times under Clinton.
Is there a history of serious repercussions for the party using reconciliation to pass legislation?

The GOP is desperate to run on Obama's and the Democrat's failures in 2010. A health-care reform package, passed by the Democrats and signed by Obama, takes away the GOP's biggest hope for failure.

fiscal and social conservatives values will not be enough.
if unemployment continues to go down (which it will)..
and health-care reform is passed (which it will)...
and the economy continues to recover (which it will)..

What world do you live in? Unemployment has NOT gone down, the economy is NOT recovering yet. Health care will be passed against the will of the American people.
