New venue for TAM5?

Although I've only attended one TAM, I feel I've experienced most of what Las Vegas has to offer, during my non-Tam time.

I think Las Vegas was great. But I like to see new things, experience new places and people. And, even if you book every "extra" TAM actitvity, there is still a lot of "non-TAM" time available during a TAM.

So, would you be in favor of changing the venue of TAM5 to somewhere else (than Vegas) in the US?

Coo!

Choices! Choices! Choices!

Where to start?

It's nice to see that we're getting to grips with the global influence of JREF in this rapidly shrinking world.

I understand that there is no one outside of the USA either with any brains or ability to be sceptical or skeptical, so a sensible selection.

It's a sad fact that Randi's fear of being sucked into the Bermuda triangle keeps him land-locked at TAM times, but otherwise able to overcome his fear at other times of year.

The USA, as one of the poorest countries in the world has so many citizens unable to scrape together the required cash/credit to fly elsewhere or risk undrinkable water in Europe/Rest of the world I think it is good of so many members to be charitable and help where we can.

As to a vote. 'Planet-X' or 'Whatever!' seem to be the best choices.

DD. Is Copenhagen the rat infested, derelict, moral and cultural vacuum we are lead to believe?

I guess the neon glitz and sparkle of LV plus the chance to view roadside delights as exemplified by the giant plastic jeebus would be preferable to the crumbling ruins of Copenhagen.

I'll stop now...

:p

You know, you sound remarkably like those American tourists that visit Copenhagen on Tuesday, Oslo on Wednesday and Stockholm on Thursday, after which they say "Oh, I've seen all of Scandinavia!" ;)

You live in Copenhagen yourself. What are the most exciting things about Copenhagen? The Little Mermaid, Tivoli and Strøget? Nah....

Catch m'drift? ;)

If I haven't said it before, I'll be happy to repeat it:

Las Vegas is Copenhagen on Prozac.

Does it mean that Copenhagen is worse? :)

I'm referrring to that silly moniker "Sin City" that LV for some unknown reason has. ;)

For anyone who believes that, I have this nice area of swamp to sell to them at a ludicrously high price... :D

I wouldn't object to TAM being held someplace other than Vegas, but Vegas doesn't bother me. It is a fun place, rather like Disneyland for adults, so I like to go every so often. Although, I can count on one hand how many times I have been to Vegas, okay on 3 fingers. :D

I'm cross-posting this from the other thread "Good news on TAM4"
The cities are based on the TAM taking place in the USA and in the January time-frame.

OK, if not Vegas, where? Here's a few ideas to chew upon.

Los Angeles--Could handle it and not far from Vegas so local talent could make it and would cater to the California population while flying there is relatively easy. But hotel and conference room probably would cost more.

Phoenix--Nice and dry and big enough to entertain a TAM, but not much to do after the meeting. Costs probably more or less like Vegas.

San Antonio/Dallas/Houston--Any would work, but TAM for Texas? If so, I vote for San Antinio, with the Alamo and Riverwalk.

New Orleans--Definitley could host it, but the French Quarter is not all it's cracked up to be and the rest of the city is dirty and dangerous. Still, with the City Walk and all, a possibility.

Atlanta--Plenty big for conventions, Delta's hubs so getting there is no problem, but traffic is horrible, Underground Atlanta and the Coke-Cola HQ are the big tourist attractions, and it's just not my kind of town.

Orlando--My vote, lots to do, lots of shopping, plenty of airline connections, good convention centers--but probably more expensive than Vegas and the attractions will depete a wallet like nothng else you've ever seen.

Miami--Don't know much about it, others will have to say if it's a viaable option. Do know if a cruise is considered after-TAM one of these times, then Orlando or Miami is the place to do it from.

Any other suggestions?

Your sarcasm is much appreciated. However, the reason I decided to keep the choices within the US, is because at least 60% of the posters here are Americans and I suspect the ratio is even higher for TAM attendees.

Aside from the "rat-infested" and "derelict" bit, I certainly hope so :).

Perhaps stopping now was a good idea.

Got something against newbies?

Nope. I'm afraid I don't catch your drift. Please remember that you are talking to a very seasoned traveller.

Hell, I don't mind going there again either. There are undoubtedly interesting pockets of "new experiences" that I missed last time around. But there are so many other places in the US that I haven't visited at all. And I'm a hound for new experiences; the greater the potential, the greater the interest. I suspect others feel likewise.

Hutch, I love your very practical, nay pragmatic, approach. :)

I ventured an idea, and here you are with real life possibilities before I've even sat down. Love it. :)
