My Bad (Former LCF Mod)

As you can see the folks here want your posts. This comment however puts an ugly spin on my own purposeful no-avatar policy. I'm a nudist. (turns away) I - I had no idea.

Good to have ya Temecula. This thread is a testament to your character. Welcome.

Out of interest, why do you think you did buy into their obvious nonsense and what caused you to start looking at things more critically?

For me its because it wasnt a supernatual claim like Creationism, homeopathy or crystal healing.

Before I found the TM I hadnt heard of Alex Jones so I didnt know what an insane nut job he really was.

Almost immediately I started rejecting claims but because there was so many of them I still thought that they had a lot of evidence and that even if only a sall amount was true thats still something to consider.

And for some reason sometimes I need the obvious pointed out to me. For some reason I had never considered the lack of explosion sounds when I still thought CD was more likely.

Seriously, it takes a fair amount of character to come here and stand up and say "I was an admin at LCF, and I was wrong." I applaud your character and hoist a beverage in your direction.

I am reminded of the story where the fake Screw Loose Change story that AJ jumped upon that said they were giving up debunking because they just cant take it anymore. I wonder what the Loose Change crew and AJ would say about this. haha

I haven't personally had the experience of being directly on LCF of the honour of being banned from there but I won't be the first to say that it took a great deal of character to post as you did. I won't personally ask what your experiences were while into that material, but I hope your future endeavors on this subject work out in your favor :)

Welcome to the forum, Temecula. We can all respect the courage it takes to admit you were wrong.

One comment on your post in the other thread: you mentioned the feeling of support you got from having a community of like-minded individuals around you. That's by no means unique to the world of conspiracy theories, and if you take a look at the Forum Community sub-forum you'll find many examples of this community giving moral and practical support to members when they need it. I hope you'll feel you can be a full member of this community. I think you've made a good start.

Fellow ex-Truther here, btw--though obviously not as advanced a case. Congratulations on deconning from Christianity, too--and welcome home. ^^

Temecula,

Welcome to the light.

Not that I want to dredge up bad memories, but ...

Can I ask how old you were when you got sucked in?

How did it feel to think that thousands of your fellow countrymen were participants in mass murder & treason?

How does it feel now to realize that they are not that nefarious?

Again, welcome.

Tom

PS. Are you from Temecula, CA?

Well, it would pain me to retype the whole thing... I cannot yet post links, but I have posted a decent answer to both question in my first post, in the "do skeptics ever convince believers" thread in your general skepticism forum. it would suffice to say I was sucked into it at a very vulnerable time in my life, and a combination of dealing with crackpots like Killtown and having to absorb arguments from the skeptics I banned led me out of it.
Your first post http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5041642&postcount=36 here http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5041642#post5041642 .

You fell for some fraud, it happens to a lot of people. If you can avoid the frauds that cost thousand of dollars by applying your lessons learned; you will be ahead of many people.

Temecula, congratulations on finding your way out of the rabbit hole!

I'm probably one of the only JREF members who wasn't banned at the original LCF; I got suspended for three months, and after that only posted once in response to a question from Dylan.

Coming here to admit you were wrong shows character. My best wishes to your wife.

I never got banned because I never signed up, I was a part-time lurker. But glad to see you leaving the dark side, that is a lot of denial to overcome. Congratulations.
