My Bad (Former LCF Mod)

yeah, you and I were real trouble. hee hee.

Well, all I did was asking genuine questions and demanding answers. Being banned for asking logical questions that [for some reason] posed a threat to conspiracy theories really annoyed me so much that I kept posting using one sock puppet after another to get the answers I was searching for.

The JREF forum was a great help as well since they actually replied to my answers rather than just banning me. :)

Anyway, what initially caused the change of mind in your case, "HotDogBun"?

I can tell you that the only WOO I still wonder about is the big pharma stuff, evil corporation stuff (because there at least SEEMS to be some evidence of it) and the debacle in New Orleans...But I certainly look at it more realistically than I did before. The reason I buy into THAT woo, is because I don't quite know enough about it yet to rule out...Which is why I cruise around these forums all the time.

That and the whole Smedley Butler Coup thing...But again, something I don't kow much about it, specifically.

big companies are scared ****less of things these days
you think the legal department of a huge company would allow them to poison the world?
of course not

lol

I don't think I subscribe to any conspiracy theories that I can think of. Why do the Lions keep using their first round draft picks to get QBs and WRs when they have no offensive line and not one member of their defense knows how to tackle? Could it be the Ford family is trying to humiliate Detroit? In all seriousness though, I try not to address anything with a broad brush, so I can only accurately answer a question of belief if it is a specific question.

As someone born and raised in Detroit, let me offer the local opinion:

Because they're the Lions. Go Red Wings.

Hey folks, I used to be a moderator at the "Loose Change Forum" back in it's heyday before they went to LCF 2.0 and whatever came after that. My name there was HotDogBun. I used to ban or suspend people from JREF on almost a daily basis. I would always make sure the email message that accompanied the action was as over-the-top insulting as possible.

Well, My Bad. Turns out you were right, and that "the truth movement" was a cult or a religion or...something, something intolerant and dogmatic and worst of all, completely mistaken and in some instances outright deceptive. I bailed out of the whole CT thing a while ago, and have actually become quite skeptical about everything since then. I recently joined this forum to post in the "Do skeptics ever convince believers" thread in your general skepticism subforum, because skeptics did in fact convince me to abandon my irrational beliefs. It reminded me of how I dealt with you folks back then, so i figured an apology was in order.

So, sorry about that.
Welcome and GOOD FOR YOU. Being skeptical and analytical is the only way to live. I was a Christian for over a decade of my 27 years and I nearly bit on the truther line in 2005 or 2006 sometime. It just seems so convincing until you allow yourself to look at all of the evidence and you try to comprehend the entire "big picture" of a conspiracy theory and realize how absurd and irrational it is.

Good for you. Welcome. Fairly new here myself. Long time lurker, however.

To me you sound like somebody who has decided to leave one club in favour of another. Knowing the truth about 9/11 is not something you can be persuaded to change your mind about. It's not a matter of choice.
I get the impression that the personalities you were dealing with had more to do with your change of heart than any true conviction.

It stands out like a sore thumb that you were never really a Truther whatever the apearances.

For instance what Truther would refer to the Truth movement in the third person as you do in the following exerpt from one of your posts ?

''...such as Killtown that really supercharged my doubts of the validity of the truth movement's claims...''

It's as plain as the nose on your face.

Something that you will notice is that when someone says that they used to believe in 9/11 conspiracies, and don't anymore, the conspiranoids jump on it and claim that you were never a true believer and must be lying.

Really, there is no point in arguing about it at that point.
Exactly. This reminds me of arguments I have with Christians all the time. They keep saying that I need to read the bible, or let Jesus in. I tell them that "I was a Christian for a decade of my young life. I went to church and youth group and prayed daily."

Then they simply imply that I was a false Christian, that I'm lying, or that I didn't believe strongly enough.

It's a very similar mentality.

I go through the same thing on some occasions in regards to my lack of spirituality. I get it on both ends, it's either that i was never a real christian, or "You'll see". I hate that comment more than most because It's not like they will ever see that they are wrong, even in death.

Magical thinking: blindfolding the gullible from the truth for thousands of years. Yep, they will never know how wrong they are. Bless 'em. ;) :)

You are just reinforcing the impression that you are not a person of conviction. Your argument inyariably devolves into personality and management issues.

I do not believe you were ever a real Truther. There is no feel of the convert about you either. I think you are masquerading as a convert but the bell of authenticity is not ringing.

Wow, a whole torrent of "no true Scotsman"...

Much like the situation when some atheists or agnostics patiently explain that, in fact, they used to be religious - some of them deeply so - but, through various combinations of study and discovery, no longer believe.

The still-religious refuse to understand that it is possible to change one's mind.

Welcome Temecula! Always nice to see a truther "snap out of it" so to speak. So congrats on your return to the dark side metamorphosis! I have to say I was on the old LC boards quite a bit, so there is a good chance I was one of the ones you banned! No hard feelings though, you guys did me a favor. ;)

Judging by the current state of the LC boards(0.06 posts per year or thereabouts!), I'd say that many of the old members there have quietly quit the movement. Heck, I'd wager that for every Temecula there is, there are 25 ex-truthers that don't have the cajones to man-up and admit they were wrong.

I was wondering if anyone has a comprehensive list of truthers who've......defected, for the lack of a better term?

The name looks familiar.

Here's the comprehensive list of former LCF forum members who are now card carrying non-believers:

I only came to this thread to check out this fake convert guy Dave. We could argue back and forth about converts from one side to the other but that is as pointless as arguing about whether the Movement for Truth is dead or not.

Now that I have settled the question about the new 'convert' I am done here for now.

It's good to see that your ability to discern the truth of any matter remains as effective as ever.

Is Bill not a p*ss take "character"?

Even when railing for Heiwa (sp??) it came across as so insincere that it I thought it was a joke. The fact every single post has some sort of bizarre thinking behind it gave the game away I thought??
