Michael Avenatti thread

How profoundly stupid do you have to be to not realize that a person you just attempted to extort who calls you back and asks you to describe your demands again in detail almost certainly has the cops conferenced in?

It gets better. First, Avenatti had just announced his own press conference where he was going to expose Nike, right before the charges against him were announced:

Nice timing there, Mike.

Second, apparently SDNY isn't the only ones going after Avenatti. He was just arrested for wire fraud charges brought by federal prosecutors in Los Angeles.

Is he running for POTUS in 2020? This might set back his campaign.

:D:D:D:D:D

Poor guy. Avenatti up on charges and Trump completely exonerated on the same day, and he's still in the penalty box here.

To be fair, he's probably better off this way.

I mean, look at all the people for whom Avenatti is up on charges, and Trump is completely exonerated, and they're also stuck here.

Trump wasn't completely exonerated. He just wasn't charged. There is a difference

I wonder if Avenatti's crimes would have floated as "business as usual" if he hadn't been involved in the Trump/Stormy lawsuit. I can totally see Trump, with all the power at his disposal, saying "I'm gonna get this guy back, no matter what it takes!"

As it turns out, it didn't take much at all.

Trump is in a better place than Avenatti. The tables really turned in the last several months.

Yea, they did. Being President is one hell of a shield. Avenatti was always a good attack dog. He just wasn't a very good person. I thought he was bright and articulate, but man he dug a hole for himself. It just goes to show the wisdom of the old joke about lawyers.

What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

A good start.

It sounds to me that Avenatti may have been desperate for some cash because of his financial struggles.

But trying to strong arm a multi billion dollar company with threats doesn't end well for most (or maybe all) who try.

I don't think that's likely. It seems that Avenatti has become unglued. He was already in hot water legally for his dubious bankruptcy actions, and his interactions with the public indicate a bit of instability.

He put his own head in the noose with the Nike extortion attempt.
Sounds like he could run for president with a professional history like that.

I think Nike learned from Bezos.

It reminds me of this scene from The Dark Knight.

I don't think this has anything to do with Trump. I think it's 100% down to Avenatti's stupidity and lack of nous.

I wouldn't say he was more stupid than Trump, though. Definitely stupid, but Trump is a very high bar to clear.

Too bad that Avenatti wasn't born with a $500mil spoon in his mouth.
Good for the rest of us, though, or he would already be President.

I don't know why people are saying that this will ruin his chances for president. Isn't past dishonesty and criminal behaviour seen as a plus these days?
