McCain is done

But, but, but corp, if you're looking to find fewer (not less :)) deadbeats why would you look to the Canadian system? Isn't that evil, socialist healthcare system in Canada chock-a-block with healthcare deadbeats?

Canadians have a unique advantage. They can travel a little south and get timely high quality health care (and it's their right when their system has long delays).

When the US has a socialized single payer system, the Canadians are screwed too.

Howard Wolfson thinks it's over

It's Over: Why Bill Ayers Won't Save John McCain

Perpetually fretting Democrats will not want to accept it. The campaigns themselves can't afford to believe it. Many journalists know it but can't say it. And there will certainly be some twists and turns along the way. But take it to a well capitalized bank: Bill Ayers isn't going to save John McCain. The race is over.

John McCain's candidacy is as much a casualty of Wall Street as Lehman or Merrill. Like those once vibrant institutions, McCain's collapse was stunning and quick. One minute you are a well-respected brand. The next you are yelling at the messengers of your demise as all around you the numbers start blinking red and stop adding up.

It's getting worse... for McCain that is...

Well, there's enough there in the Strong Dem + Weak Dem categories to add up to 304. Even without any of the "Barely Dem." Still, there's a month left. You know what they say about counting chickens and all.

Strong Dem (207)
Weak Dem (97)
Barely Dem (45)
Exactly tied (15)
Barely GOP (11)
Weak GOP (63)
Strong GOP (100)
270 Electoral votes needed to win

Democrats shouldn't get so cocky. I have three words for you: Electronic Voting Machines.

Texas is "Weak GOP"? Whaaaa??

People are talking like he's up by 25. We've seen 8-point swings more than once in this race.
No, we haven't. For most of the time, Obama has held on to a modest lead.

His numbers went down somewhat (+-4%) towards the end of august. Then you had the convention bounces and after those faded, Obama was back to his ordinary 3 to 4% lead. And then his numbers went up (+-4%) after McCain's suspension blunder, the Palin meltdown and the first two debates.

So, basically we're talking about three shifts of about 4%.

A lead of more than 8% is very hard to overcome, especially with only 4 weeks left.

A stunningly accurate depiction of how McCain's campaign has been going the past three weeks or so:

Your friends also said the Obama is going to take Texas, so forgive me if I don't put much stock in this pronouncement. :D

edit: Pulling out of Florida would literally be a concession. It won't happen.

I think his friends are pulling his leg. Palin was in Jacksonville this morning.

Obama will not be president because of his advisor Franklin Raines who is a former CEO of Fannie Mae.

Non-President McCain did so already ... in 95% of the time!

So Oliver ... is your claim like Obama's claim that he will cut federal taxes for "95 percent of working families"? The problem there, of course, is that 32 percent of federal income tax filers already pay NO TAXES so it's impossible for Obama to cut their taxes further. Making Obama dishonest. But then you already knew that, didn't you. You just don't care about democrat dishonesty. :D

Well, I asked them, and they say he's almost stopped buying media in key markets, which was the basis for their statement. So, might be more significant to them than it really is. They also say that McCain has almost lost may retirees as he came out and said he would cut Medicare to balance the budget.
