McCain is done

It happens. I find the use of "goat blather" to be twaddle anyways, whether it's arrant or not. ;)

I think you're being quite unfair to those people who have committed no crime and are perfectly normal members of society, apart from their desire to blathe goats.

If you are not aware of the works of James Thurber, then that is your funeral.

Judge me properly, and fairly!

Is Tricky's avatar a unicorn? If so, then he (Tricky) is both mythical and very funny! I LOVED both (201&203) comments, Tricky, but I think Leon's problem was not that something fell on him (at least I hope nothing did fall on him!), I think he simply hadn't had his cuppa java yet when he read your first comment....!

This sounds like the start for a limerick, but I shan't go there…
The beat is wrong for a limerick, unless you pronounce "mythical" as myTHICal. So, given that constraint, I shall try.

I expect this to get moved by the mods pretty quickly, so view it while you may.

The unicorn is a mythical beast
By legend, it's also a fickle beast.
Lays his horn (at great urgin')
In the lap of a virgin
Don't ask me where he puts his pickle-piece.

Calling McCain the underdog hardly accurate. Let's see the big M is a war hero, of the same party as the sitting president and he's got years and years of political positionion under his belt. He should be a shoe in. His opponent is young and of mixed race and questionable expierence. John McCain should be sitting on top of the world. And he would be too if the nation haden't realized that the party in power has been playing the nation and a good chunk of the rest of the world for suckers. John McCain is top dog, he's in the crow's nest, at the height of power its just that his entire ship is sailing into the sunset while not so gracefully slipping under the waves as it does. Enjoy the ride Johnny.

I disagree.
Let's see the big M is a war hero...
Sort of. He didn't do anythin particularly heroic besides get captured and not talk. It's not as if he helped the cause much. The best you can say is he could have hurt it more if he had caved. We really don't have that much unbiased info about his POW years.

...of the same party as the sitting president...
Of the most unpopular president in history. I can't see that as a positive.

...he's got years and years of political positioning under his belt.
Much of which he spent pissing off his own party. There are still a lot of Republicans who haven't forgiven him for his non-Republican stances.

He should be a shoe in. His opponent is young and of mixed race and questionable expierence.
Sometimes lack of experience is a bonus. Why do you think so many of our recent presidents have been governors? It's because that means they don't have a congressional voting record. Obama's record is short, so that may be a bonus for him. Not as many people he owes favors.

John McCain should be sitting on top of the world. And he would be too if the nation haden't realized that the party in power has been playing the nation and a good chunk of the rest of the world for suckers. Height of power? Hardly. The GOP lost both houses two years ago. They are being blamed for the economy. No, this isn't the Black Pearl he's commanding. It's the Titanic.

So I give McCain some credit for taking what should have been and deserved to be a much worse blowout and turning it into a fairly close race. He did it by energizing his base while making a coalition of moderate Republicans and disaffected Democrats, along with a healthy number of independants. Had the economy not tanked, he might even have a better than average chance. Even as is, you would be foolish to count him out. Don't get cocky, fellow Obama supporters. We're ahead, but this ain't over.

I am utterly baffled as to how you reached this conclusion. Are you under the impression that people like the current sitting president? A recent poll showed that the sitting president has a 19% approval rating. That's less than 1 out of every 5 people.

McCain is at the pinnicle of his life, this is as high as he's ever going to climb. Since not many people get to run for president just to have a person get this far makes them a leg up on the unwashed masses. Come on Johnny is wise statesmen, he's a maverick, he thinks outside the box, he has somewhat of a babe as a running mate. He's living the dream man. You and I aren't going to be showing up on the blue red map. This does not mean he's getting my vote. He most certainly is not!

Now as for not liking or disapproving of the current president sorry we as a nation apparantly like W enough. If we really were genuine we would have marched on Washington and hauled his butt out of the Oval Office and dragged him behind a horse all the way back to Crawford years ago. I wonder what Ben Franklin would have said about the current state of affairs.
