Gov. Mike Pence is dropping his re-election bid in Indiana to become Donald Trump’s running mate.

IndyStar has confirmed that Trump plans to announce Pence as his selection for vice president, ending a weeks-long vice presidential casting call during which Trump vetted a handful of high-profile Republicans.

Trump's national campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, said "a decision has not been made." A formal announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday in Manhattan.

The long-awaited decision upends the political landscape in Indiana and at least partially remakes the Trump campaign in Pence’s image.

He hasn't done a particularly good job in Indiana, depending on who you listen to. His social platforms are a little odd, and he is the one trying to force women who have abortions to provide funerals for the fetus. He has gained a little more notoriety with the #PeriodsForPence movement.

Not anymore but the cat's out of the bag. Maybe the RNC made him realize these two points, 1. Trump knows less about Pence than the media or the Clinton campaign; 2. He has no operation set up to defend Pence. Otherwise his delay is obvious pandering that everyone can see through.

So Mike Pence has until noon today to withdraw from the Indiana governors race and still be eligible to be replaced on the ticket by another Republican. I'm speculating that in the wake of yesterday's terrorist attack in France Donald has changed his mind about the VP because something new happened. Newt has ratcheted up the crazy (he's calling for American citizens to be deported if they fail a religious test; where would you deport the American born ones to?) but I'm guessing he's out because Donald is back to wanting the crazy war hawk general to send the right message in Donald's mind. The RNC is arguing for Pence while Donald wants the general and the now that rules committee has closed the door on turfing Donald, he's got all the leverage in negotiations to prevent him from ruining his ticket.
