Likely vice president running mates 2016

Dana Bash (CNN) is reporting that Trump last night had "Buyer's Regret" over Pence and asked his advisors if he could walk it back after they had leaked it. If true, must make Pence feel good.

Wow, what is that? Six hours? Even McCain took longer than that to realize he'd made a bad choice.
 
When someone posted the new TP logo in the general Trump thread, I took it to be a joke. Apparently it's not. Lordy, that's almost as bad as Hillary's.

TP, by the way, is something I use every morning.
 
Someone needs to work on punning "Half a Sixpence". I can get to "half a sick Pence" cuz it's so damned appealing but can't work out other lyrics.

Maybe "laugh at sick Pence"....?
 
Pence was probably Trump's safest choice of a bad shortlist he had made. Now I'm interested in what Clinton does, seeing an uptick in Tom Vilsack hype, 8 year Iowa governor and secretary of agriculture the last 8 years. By no means the obvious choice but makes sense on a regional balance/EC map basis.

I dunno. Not a huge pickup in EC votes if they take IA. If they're going for a favorite son, they're better off looking at VA or FL, where they're currently leading but could use the additional votes a favorite son would bring. I'd choose VA. I think Trump can be suckered into not just offending moderate Hispanics but stumbling over something that really peeves the Cubans off, and they're a reliable GOP bloc, normally. Besides, VA is almost at the point now where RCP is going to have to put its votes in the Dem column. Trump just ain't selling well there.

Definitely more valuable swing states out there but haven't heard as much about potential VPs from FL/OH/PA/VA. If nothing else Vilsack is wildly inoffensive.

I think Hillary faces a tough choice. With Sanders and Warren now supporting her, and Trump/Pence scaring progressives, she doesn't really need a leftist-VP to appeal to the progressive vote. She'd probably get more votes going with someone more centrist, that way some moderate Republican voters and centrist undecided voters -- who don't like Trump but don't want to vote for Clinton either -- might be more inclined to vote for Clinton and justify it to themselves because they're really voting for [ABCD] the VP.

The problem is that Clinton's compromises with Sanders has pulled her platforms further left so it would be hard to now justify picking a centrist VP in light of her more left-wing platform. I don't thinks Sanders would be too happy about it though he would still support Clinton in order to stop Trump (and Pence, who seems to be so right wing he's almost the exact opposite of Sanders).
 
I think the Clinton campaign is going to pay attention to the evidence that points out that a bad VP pick, such as Sarah Palin, can hurt your campaign but a good VP pick doesn't add anything noticeable. I'd prioritize the VP pick based on these criteria in this order:

1. Someone you will have a great working relationship with for the next 4 to 8 years
2. Doesn't hurt your ticket
3. Covers perceived policy or skill gaps

So expect her final three to be Tim Kaine, Tom Vilsack and Tom Perez as she has great working relationships with all of them and they won't hurt the ticket.

Kaine has some ethics issues. I think Vilsack would be the best of these three.
