What does Cousins 'prove'? That he was mentally ill to have indulged in a bit of knob gobbling in his youth (if I'm reading his account correctly, for a decade or so)? Or that the song is so... blah... that he would have to be mentally ill to think it was worth the studio time to record?

I dunno. An artist kind of... being honest and vulnerable is not a weird thing to me. Like, he might be trying to say to his fan base 'hey, we all did stuff when we were kids, Kanye did too', and that's kind of a good thing for the fan base who isn't processing their own past in a healthy way. There's a ton of songs about laying your soul and past bare. A physical dalliance when you were a kid is relatively lower-ranked, IMO.

ETA: being bi or experimenting or whatever you want to call it is nothing to be ashamed of, IMO. The first cousin thing is not for me, but you can even marry your first cousin in New York and Georgia and elsewhere, so it's not like that is universal either.

I only object to the song sucking, not Kanye.

Like, he might be trying to say to his fan base 'hey, we all did stuff when we were kids, Kanye did too', and that's kind of a good thing for the fan base who isn't processing their own past in a healthy way. i think it was a good example of a bad decision he made during some kind of obvious, prolonged, and really public mental health episode.

Again, being an attention seeker and doing anything to get it is absolutely a mental disease. It's just not one I have a lot of sympathy for and Kanye has done this multiple times. He's also made the lives of people around him a living hell in the process, and gives these milquetoast public apologies afterwards. Look at the ◊◊◊◊ the Kardashian and their shared kids have had to go through, and I hate even thinking of defending a Kardashian. The man has every resource at his disposal and now he's saying that he can't even manage to get a solid diagnosis? I refuse to believe that. I refuse to believe that Kim didn't do absolutely everything in her power to get him the best possible care from multiple healthcare professionals. My point is neither you nor I know if the song is even true or not. Sure, he could be telling a story or he could be making it up entirely. How can we know what's true with what he says? We can't have it both ways here. He's either a mentally ill man who says and does things that aren't based in reality, up to and including this song, or he's just making ◊◊◊◊ up to stay in the headlines. Whether that attention be good or bad.

To be honest, I don't even care what he does as long as he keeps it to him, but he doesn't. He drags other people into his cesspool of stupidity and ruins their lives too. They have agency as well, sure, but he's got a lot of power with his influence and he seems to have no issues wielding it when he decides to.

I listen to some rap and urban music but am a bit selective about the sound of the artist. Completely subjective on my part but I dislike "cluttered" music as my hearing gets worse.

I always avoided West's stuff as it's not my liking. Don't do Snoop for the constant drug stuff. But he is a funny personality.

ICP does some disturbing lyrics for sure but I have the ability to know its fantasy. They are in fact a christian leaning duo that kinda push god. Decent show all the same. ( my son gave me a juggalo shirt for my b-day, he had two custom made for us. Great kid)

West has no redeeming quality I know of. His weird politics didn't help. Cousins doesn't help.
His choices in women didn't help his image.

Yet it peaked at 21 on the New Zealand chart. It looks like it was removed from streaming in November of 2025, and the whole album is a ◊◊◊◊ show. What I don't understand is if it was all about Kanye then why was Dave Blunts the songwriter? Blunts literally wrote the songs lyrics. Why would someone else write the lyrics about an event that happened to Kanye? Again, this could be my inexperience and lack of knowledge about the music industry.

To me, it just sounds like another attention grab. Why would he write a song called Hiel Hitler? Who the ◊◊◊◊ knows? He's a moron? He does dumb ◊◊◊◊ so people will pay attention to him? This is the, I don't know, 3rd, 4th or 5th time we've gone through the cycle of "Kanye does something stupid, Kanye doubles down, Kanye triples down, Kanye apologizes". That sounds like an attention whore to me.

During a good portion of that time he had Kim who, at least publicly, worked really hard to get him help. He either didn't want the help, it didn't work, or there wasn't a problem to fix.

He possibly submitted to psychiatric examination reluctantly, didn't take it particularly seriously, and is likely not compliant with medication.

Of course, this is all speculation.
