I'll Have The Kitten Salad On Rye

For anyone feeling nostalgic for the days before the mods cracked down on that sort of thing, the first one does actually include a few "kitten" recipes.

Must be off now, got to fetch the kittens and chips.

Thanks Mojo,

Its about 4pm local time and I was starting to think about what I wanted for dinner tonight. You make a wonderful suggestion.

As to the vegetarian/Peta Freak analogy. I was once a vegetarian, back in college, but never cared much for Peta so even during that phase continued to wear my favorite leather jacket. When people tried to point out the apparent inconsistency, I would simply respond "Cows are meant to be worn, not eaten."

Althought the best related quote from my college years, was a friend dealing with the local annoying Peta Freak. She was giving him grief for choosing the veal in the dining hall, pontificating about how the poor little cows are tortured to make tender veal. My friend's response: "I'm all for torturing animals, especially if it makes them taste better." To everybody's delight, she elected not to join us for dinner that evening.

Their methods really do tend to create a backlash. I dated a PETA member, and although we remain friends I'll never forget her sheepishly telling me to read the food column in our local alternative paper... written the day after she'd gone on a date with their food critic.

My favorite line: "If someone could prove punching a baby duck in the face every half hour could make them taste 1/100th better, I'd be at the forefront of the baby duck-punching movement."

Did he really feel this way? Of course not. And he'd never have written that if he hadn't spent the evening listening to the type of person that thought "kittens of the sea" was a brilliant way to get their holier-than-thou message out to the neanderthals of society.

ETA: Whenever I wanted to get her goat I'd exclaim "Veal: It's torturiffic!" :D

A PETA game in which you put lipstick on animals?????

You sound surprised.

I've decided to rebrand tree fruit as 'sky puppies' and root vegetables as 'earth gerbils'. You wouldn't eat a puppy or a gerbil would you?

What amazes me is PETA just does not get that their tactics backfire on them.
Of course Fanatics generally have problems communicating with people who are not True Believers.

Maybe I should start a separate thread, but I'm not really sure that skinning animals alive is something I really want to talk about.

This PETA propaganda about cats ans puppies being skinned alive for their fur, which I have heard about from time to time, notably a forwarded email a few days ago. I'm developing major scepticism, but I'm not sure this is just because I don't want it to be true. But - skinning a struggling, clawing, screaming animal, rather than a pliant and unresponsive corpse? Would anyone seriously try it, even if the pelt was allegedly better? It sounds close to a practical impossibility to me, especially given the amount of accurate cutting that would have to be done under very adverse circumstances. Second, live animals bleed when cut. Such an exercise would surely be non-viable given the amount of blood that would be pouring all over the place.

I smell pure propaganda, but I've no evidence.

Rolfe.

Sure! I'm with Colbert-sama on this one. It means that it's now ok to eat what he calls 'land fish'. De-hairing the ones that aren't declawed will be a problem though.

PETA's made the news twice this week. That means, per my e-mail promise to them, I have two veal dinners to eat before Sunday. :p

Our plan as of Monday was to grill ribeye steak for Super Bowl food, among other things.

I now need to get some dog and cat food to add to the mix, to ensure we are as anti-PETA as possible.

Hmm. Might be tough to find at local meat markets.

Could it be such a small world?

Lonewulf, I just joined recently, and saw your posts. Are you by chance, kittymother, AKA AH?

I think this is the proper website:

http://www.peta.org/sea_kittens/

The other one seems to be a mirror site and I think it may not be legitimate (given the advertising on it).
Hehe, I thought it was a great bit of juxtaposition.

The seakittens.com site registration information is anonymized. I'm willing to bet it's a PETA nutjob who registered the mirror site, and hosted it with a free or low-cost advertising-driven hosting service, and just hasn't been paying attention.

I think they are fish wearing cat skins from actual skinned cats. There must have been a fight over them, as some fish could manage only to secure certain parts, like paws, or ears, or noses. One fishie got himself an entire dead cat to wear, though, how lucky! Ok, maybe not so much for the cat...

Highly unlikey they're using real cat skins.

I think it's more likely that the fish are all Furrys, some wearing only token paws, ears or noses; others wearing entire fursuits.

Yargh. Blue font. Totally unnecessary.

No. I'm Lonewulf, Demonwulf, Daemonus Lupus, and in AIM, Cybawulf999.

I don't go by any other aliases, and don't try to hide my identity. I am who I say I am, and if you asked, I'd give you my real name; you already have my general location (hint: I live near the UTSA campus here). I don't really crave anonymity. I'm too lazy to upkeep it, anyways, and I don't have the patience to put on different guises.

Nor do I support PETA or their tactics.

I brought more seriousness in a thread aimed at levity than I should have. I just find the whole poking fun at PETA pretty old by now. They're kooks... go figure. 90% of the world has figured that out by now. Then again, I make fun of kooks on a daily basis, so why should I be judging? This will be my last post in this thread, as I regret posting my nonsense into it in the first place; I'll spare Technoextreme my "whining" and my generalizations in which I never generalized in the first place (apparently he reads "everyone is a..." in my statements where it doesn't exist.)

I should add that I'm also rather stressed out thanks to the university life, if that helps explain my behavior in this thread... I was half awake and stressing out over a quiz I failed in because I don't tend to randomly bring Scantrons, and forgot that the professor would be springing pop quizzes.

I'm actually not a vegetarian or vegan myself, although I admit I'm quite sympathetic to their views, and wish I had the strength to pursue them myself. But I've had to laugh at the arguments leveled against them in the past, including by some of the posters in this thread, in previous threads on the topic.
