I'll Have The Kitten Salad On Rye

Where is there an ad for beef steaks at the top of the page?

And the cat on the left seems to be simultaneously eating and pooping a live fish.

That ad for Omaha Steaks made me smile. By the way, would eating a sea kitten make my cat a cannibal?

Yargh. Blue font. Totally unnecessary.

No. I'm Lonewulf, Demonwulf, Daemonus Lupus, and in AIM, Cybawulf999.

I don't go by any other aliases, and don't try to hide my identity. I am who I say I am, and if you asked, I'd give you my real name; you already have my general location (hint: I live near the UTSA campus here). I don't really crave anonymity. I'm too lazy to upkeep it, anyways, and I don't have the patience to put on different guises.

Okey dokey. Was hoping you were an old friend. Nice meeting you too. :) Would green be better for ya? :D

Just a tip: You do know that under User CP, you can set your signature? You can do it through "set signature". You don't have to add it directly into your post every time.

Green is easier on the eyes. I'd prefer the default, but as long as it's bearable, I have no problem with it.

Welcome to the forums. :)

Thanx for the tip Lonewulf. But unfortunately one needs 50 posts to be allowed to have a siggy. May even add in an avatar in some sort of botched way too.

In all actuality, green was my first choice. It IS easier on the eyes. Things could have been worse, I could have used fushia. ;) Oh, and thanx for the welcome. :)

If you go to the "About Our Campaign" tab, you get a bunch of interesting facts about "sea kittens," among them:
A University of Edinburgh study found that sea kittens can retain information that they learned up to 11 months earlier, which makes them cuter and smarter than the president of the United States!
Link.

I guess this site won't be getting President Obama's endorsement any time soon.

Skepticsfriend, you might want to have a look at this recent thread.

Should I change my font?

Oh, and this post, too.

As long as the lipstick contains only vegetable components or ones extracted from humans and is not tested on animals, why not?
I thought every single cosmetic available had at some point either been tested on animals or was put together from pre-existing ingredients that had been tested on animals.

The first webiste I have come across talking about this ( wikianswers) says:
Cosmetics manufacturers who genuinely do not test on animals generally use the following for safety testing of their products: * reliance on existing natural or synthetic ingredients, compounds and substances, which have already been extensively tested on animals; * avoiding novel ingredients or combinations of ingredients that have not been fully tested and may not be safe; * testing on human volunteers/clinical trials.

LEAVE BUFFY CAST MEMBERS ALONE, YOU DOUCHEBAGS!!

That's it, veal meatballs for the Superbowl party.

Did I omit a smiley? My apologies. :o

...But - skinning a struggling, clawing, screaming animal, rather than a pliant and unresponsive corpse? Would anyone seriously try it...

If you type a string like "skinned alive for fur" into any search engine there
are a lot of hits of varying authority on this that come up. According to
those reports, they don't skin "struggling, clawing, screaming" animals.
They whack the poor things on the head a few times first then start skinning
them. An unspeakably disgusting practise, if you ask me.

That's how you skin a rabbit. PROTIP: If you're running a vegetable stand and someone brings you a rabbit, make sure you whack it hard enough to kill it before moving on to step two (there's a reason the sound of screaming bunnies over a loudspeaker were used to force Noreiga out of his home.)

I had a friend who raised rabbits, and a farmer's failure to do so led to what would have been a life-scarring incident if the hilarity of a customer fleeing his stand at the speed of light hadn't usurped it. :D

Sounds disgusting, but so long as the animal is unconscious first and never regains consciousness, then it's actually humane. Not that I like the idea one tiny little bit. But that's actually the basis of all humane slaughter. Render the animal as instantaneously unconscious as possible, then do something which will be reliably fatal before consciousness can be regained.

The email I got described a skinned puppy raising its head and looking at the camera "with bloodied eyes". Having said that, I have seen a sworn witness statement declaring that a certain dog "was so weak it could barely raise its head" when it was later proved the dog had been dead for three months at the time!

Well the point is that the animals apparently often regain consciousness half
way through the procedure. There are videos circulating on the net that
purport to show the practise.

@Drudgewire. Yes. I've had to rabbit punch bunnies on Ex. Had to teach
young recruits to do it too. We made sure they were killed before we cleaned
them, though, even if sometimes it did get messy if the guys were clumsy or
hesitant. Also butchered sheep on occasion. But then it was, usually
reluctantly, done for "survival". Not quite the same as a production line
fur coat factory.

True. But on topic, skinning (or, as it's known in the real world: "scaling") a sea kitten before killing it would be an exercise in futility if not damned near impossible.

Hi:

You may not have meant to do this, but you just spray painted "Bozo" on your forehead. You'll get the hang of this place in time, and I'm pretty sure it's not a permanent tatoo anyway. ;)

Welcome to the forums. How you present yourself matters somewhat, even on the internet.

I saw a Youtube video from China, that showed that very thing -- a dog lifting its head, while conscious, and fully skinned.

Easy way to tell that this is a hoax: Proper grammar, spelling, punctuation.

(While I am sure that there ARE in fact PETA members who can manage some semblance of proficiency in the English language somewhere in the US, this is very literally not the case in my particular locale)

ETA: I seem to have spoken too soon. My mistake :P
Given the drastic situation for this country's sea kittens—who are often the victims of many major threats to their welfare and ways of life—it's high time that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) stop allowing our little sea kitten friends to be tortured and killed.

Oh dear, I don't think I wanted to know that.

The email I was sent didn't download properly and I didn't see any video. The accompanying message referred to signing a petiton to have such practices stopped. Yes, and a petition to whom, exactly? And just how likely is that to make any difference?
