"I want control of the senate"

Huh?

Was it atheists who violently attempted to deny Joe Biden the space he currently occupies? Did atheists accuse Ilhan Omar of seeking to 'impose Shariah law on America' and target her with death threats?

All most atheists ask is that people who 'occupy space' in public institutions don't use the power of the state to force their particular religious beliefs onto others. Theists and atheists alike should be concerned about the propagation of such 'dominionism'.

Idiocracy

Christians who have sold their souls to the MAGA cult and other similar insanities reminds me of an aphorism.... "he cut his nose to spite his face"...

Those simpletons ought to listen more to this sane christian...

Bill Mahr's latest episode describes this preposterous imbecility that the christians are doing by cutting their noses to spite their faces.

The theological pandemic that has almost destroyed American democracy

The theological pandemic that has almost destroyed both American democracy
On Jan. 6, 2021, a large group of evangelical Christians attacked the U.S. Capitol on the understanding that they were fighting for God's president...
...
Most people now understand that the solid foundation of support for Trump is connected to evangelical theology, and that was never more clear than on that fateful day. The Jan. 6 committee has assigned itself the task of identifying those who are guilty of planning and inspiring this coup attempt, and while the former president was obviously the central figure, I would like to shift the committee's attention to prominent evangelical pastors. These religious leaders have enormous political and spiritual influence and in many cases have provided the moral authority that led their followers to work toward the overthrow of American democracy.

Virginia governor clears path for ‘extreme’ bill allowing police to seek menstrual histories

Advocates feared private health information could be used in prosecutions for abortion law violations, after a US supreme court ruling last summer overturned federal protections for the procedure.

But Youngkin, who has pushed for a 15-week abortion ban to mirror similar measures in several Republican-controlled states, essentially killed the bill through a procedural move in a subcommittee of the Republican-controlled House.

And you think shouting about esoteric biblical interpretations and yelling QED through the streets of Fairfax County was going to win the election? Get a grip.

I'm growing increasingly tired of ~40% of our electorate being immune to both facts and basic human decency somehow being our fault. It's creating a weird mixture of concern trolling and humble bragging.

Unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to determine an individual's fitness to vote. Progressives (typically those on the left) would view it as a means of voter suppression. There's history there: at one point voter tests were used to exclude blacks.

So we're stuck with letting just about anyone vote. In the US, that means anyone who can register. In many countries voter registration is done by a commission independent of government. Regardless, the result is the same: many people vote without a good understanding of the issues or the consequences of a bad choice.

In fact it ought to be quite easy... a person who wishes to become an American citizen has to go through a thorough education culminating in an exam.

Every citizen who wishes to get a driver's license has to go through training and studying and a written exam and oral and practical tests.

So why not a voter's license which also includes a year long community college or night school course and an IQ test and a civics test and an oral test.

[Joke]And if they pass they get a probational license which will be revoked if they vote Republican the first election cycle.... and have to go through the course and testing again... and if they do it again they disqualify from ever getting a license.... :D [/Joke]

That's nice. If you want a pro choice candidate to win in Virginia, make nice with the Black churches. Black, church attending women have mad organizational skills and get people out to the polls. Souls to Polls, where you go from church to vote, gave Georgia to the pro choice Democrats in 2020, and 2022.

So why not a voter's license which also includes a year long community college or night school course and an IQ test and a civics test and an oral test.[?]

Who's going to pay for this year-long, collegiate course for every eligible voter? There were almost 170 million registered voters in the U.S. in 2020. Even if you make people pay a fee for the course, how will that not work to inhibit voting by people with lower income? Even just the time required to take the class is going to give an advantage to wealthier people with more free time and more flexible schedules. For people raising kids while working two jobs it's going to be no different from the "literacy tests" used to keep black people from casting votes.

And IQ tests are ********. All that's going to accomplish is to filter out people who, again, haven't had a more advantageous upbringing. IQ tests might tell you which yuppie larva is smartest compared to the other yuppie larvae at his school, but it's not going to tell you the actual intelligence of some working poor seventeen-year-old who attended an inner city school.

Sorry, but your "simple" solution wouldn't do anything more than further disenfranchise the already underrepresented, and play into the hands of the elites who already control the system.

Point being, to protect reproductive rights, donating to election campaigns is far more effective than shouting at people until they decide to become atheists.

By taxing the bloody churches... who are breaking the law every time they command their dupes whom to vote for.

But also additionally... make it a course in High Schools over two years... or a mandatory course in college in the freshman year.

Even if you make people pay a fee for the course, how will that not work to inhibit voting by people with lower income?

Make the loathsome churches pay for it.

But if it is done in school or college then your objection is not relevant.

Even just the time required to take the class is going to give an advantage to wealthier people with more free time and more flexible schedules.

Pay the participants for participating.... and make the damnable churches pay for it.

But again... if done in school or college years then again not a problem

For people raising kids while working two jobs it's going to be no different from the "literacy tests" used to keep black people from casting votes.

Make the churches pay for their literacy instead of taking money from them to pray to the ill begotten Zombified human sacrifice.

And by taxing the churches, the level of education in all schools will be higher, consequently eliminating the problem even more.

Make the churches pay to raise their dupes' IQs instead of lowering it by reading the Buybull claptrap at them.

Or have all churches hold these classes on Sundays and Wednesdays after the prayer claptrap and buybull study indoctrination sessions .

Sorry, but your "simple" solution wouldn't do anything more than further disenfranchise the already underrepresented, and play into the hands of the elites who already control the system.

Nope.... it will increase civic participation and elevate education and heighten awareness and will perhaps also help stave off the fleecing and hoaxing being done to their dupes by the detestable churches.

Many things require multipronged solutions instead of False Dichotomy and strawmanning and other fallacies.

You know you can do your way and leave others to do their way without ridiculing and working hard to prevent them...

If your aim and their aim is to combat and alleviate the vitiation of society done by the religious insanity... then why try to stop them just because it is not your way??

Which law are they breaking, exactly?

I'd much rather public schools teach critical thinking as a major part of the curriculum. I think that would prove more effective than a "license to vote" requirement.

A mandatory college course still falls into the same mire - namely that it favors people with higher income.

Make the loathsome churches pay for it.
Well that should be easy. You just stand on the street corner and shout at people until they see the wisdom of your plan.

But if it is done in school or college then your objection is not relevant.
Again, it is relevant because schools and colleges aren't free. And unless you solve the problem with educational equality, you're still going to have a system that plays to the advantages of money, and disenfranchises those with less means.

Pay the participants for participating.... and make the damnable churches pay for it.
Sure, Luemas. Let's do that first thing Monday morning. We can start a Kickstarter campaign and you can contribute the first million to lobby legislators for your plan.

What part of "poor people rarely get to attend college" do you not understand?

Make the churches pay for their literacy instead of taking money from them to pray to the ill begotten Zombified human sacrifice.

I'm all for taxing church income on a general basis, but what laws do you think would allow the Federal or state governments to tax churches on the grounds that you propose?

Nope.... it will increase civic participation and elevate education and heighten awareness and will perhaps also help stave off the fleecing and hoaxing being done to their dupes by the detestable churches.
That could be accomplished much more effectively by means that don't involve anything as stupid as openly declaring war on religion in the U.S. by means of a campaign of loudly shouting your moral superiority at them. Teaching critical thinking skills as part of the science curriculum from a young age would likely have a greater long term effect than one righteous person walking up and kicking the nearest Roman soldier in the nuts and shouting "MAKE CAESAR PAY TO EDUCATE THE SLAVES!". It's not like democracies with largely secular populations have achieved that state by placing controls on religion. They do, however, do a much better job of providing a general education than the U.S. does, and that seems to lead to a culture less influenced by superstition. Not as fun as shouting on the street corner, I'll grant, but probably more productive.

Furthermore, if you really want to tax people to fund better education, do as Craig4 suggested and donate to and vote for candidates who are in favor of ending corporate welfare and massive tax law loopholes for the rich. I'd still like to see religious institutions above a certain income pay taxes, but you're never going to get there by shouting "churches are evil and they make people dumb!". That's just going to give them something to actually point at when they cry about being discriminated against.

Which law are they breaking, exactly?

The law that prohibits them from meddling in politics in exchange for getting away with not paying taxes like every other person and organization and corporation and property owners.

I'd much rather public schools teach critical thinking as a major part of the curriculum. I think that would prove more effective than a "license to vote" requirement.

False dichotomy.... and ignoring that schools teach more than one thing in their classes.

A mandatory college course still falls into the same mire - namely that it favors people with higher income.

Not if the course is free and paid for by the taxes collected form the grifter cults of the Zombified ill begotten human sacrificed Jesus.... whose money comes from fleecing dupes who could instead have used that money to pay for their education instead of mind pickling on the bile of the cult of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus.

Well that should be easy. You just stand on the street corner and shout at people until they see the wisdom of your plan.

Yes... it worked for the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus... didn't it... and they are still hawking all the time on street corners but also in buildings and properties paid for by fleecing billions of duped rubes and for which they do not pay any taxes.

Again, it is relevant because schools and colleges aren't free. And unless you solve the problem with educational equality, you're still going to have a system that plays to the advantages of money, and disenfranchises those with less means.

Yes... easily solved by having free education paid for by taxing the grifter cults of the zombified ill begotten human sacrificed Jesus.... whose money comes from fleecing dupes who could have paid the money towards their education instead for the mind-pickling hawking for Jesus on street corners and in untaxed expensive buildings.

Sure, Luemas. Let's do that first thing Monday morning. We can start a Kickstarter campaign and you can contribute the first million to lobby legislators for your plan.

If I had the hoaxing ability to fleece billions of dupes like the cults of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus... why not... they are doing it all the time... and illegally.

what part of "poor people rarely get to attend college" do you not understand?

What part don't you understand about free education paid for by taxing the cults of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus, instead of those very same poor people paying for their mind pickling on the bile hawked on street corners and in expensive untaxed buildings paid for by fleecing billions of simpletons.

I'm all for taxing church income on a general basis, but what laws do you think would allow the Federal or state governments to tax churches on the grounds that you propose?

The same laws that tax everybody and everyone and every organization.

That could be accomplished much more effectively by means that don't involve anything as stupid as openly declaring war on religion in the U.S. by means of a campaign of loudly shouting your moral superiority at them.

Why not... the cults of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus are extremely stupid and they have declared religious crusades against women and modernity and progress and freedom in the US and around the globe after having been stopped for a few decades from doing it like they did in the preceding millennia.

Teaching critical thinking skills as part of the science curriculum from a young age would likely have a greater long term effect

False Dichotomy again... Why is it that you think schools can only teach one thing or another but not both and much more to boot???

Colleges and schools teach multiple subjects and people learn many things at the same time.

than one righteous person walking up and kicking the nearest Roman soldier in the nuts and shouting "MAKE CAESAR PAY TO EDUCATE THE SLAVES!".

Isn't this what the cultists of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus did and have been doing for millennia???

What have you got against shouting at street corners... it worked wonders for the ill begotten Zombified human sacrifice Jesus and all his cultists ever since.... and they are still doing it today in expensive untaxed buildings built by taxing dupes... they need to give it back so the dupes can get properly educated... instead of the mind pickling done by the cults of the Zombified Jesus.

Ah... thanks for the suggestion... somehow this escaped me for the last 6 decades... wow I missed out on a lot influencing I could have done... wow... maybe today we might not have members of the cult of the ill begotten Human Sacrificed Jesus all over the 3 branches of federal and state governments in the process of establishing (and almost done) a theocracy paid for by the TAX FREE incomes the cults fleeced out of the dupes who listen to their hawking on street corners and in expensive untaxed buildings.

I'd still like to see religious institutions above a certain income pay taxes,

If they own property or pay wages they need to pay taxes like all other organizations and property owners.

but you're never going to get there by shouting "churches are evil and they make people dumb!". That's just going to give them something to actually point at when they cry about being discriminated against.

Why not.... they do it all the time and call damned and evil and deserving of hell anyone who is not a duped believer in the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus..... if they do it they cannot complain when they get some of it back.

Because you can't get a Democrat elected in the American South without Black churches. Black church going women are a pillar of voter registration and get out the vote drives. If you can't get Democrats elected, you can't protect voting rights. So going balls to the walls on atheism might feel satisfying but it results the loss of reproductive rights. There's a reason it's called a Faustian bargain.

No Craig4... "going balls to the walls" is what worshipers of the ill begotten Zombified human sacrificed Jesus do in their cult centers while getting their brains pickled on the bile their shamans produce... it is not what atheists do.

And making "Faustian bargains" with the Devil is something... again... cult members of the Zombified human sacrifice do since their Zombie Jesus is himself a Devil Minion.... atheists do not believe in devils.

And Craig4... this is the second time I point out the fallacy of false dichotomy in your posts.... getting political things done can be achieved by MULTIPLE means and multipronged campaign tactics and strategies.
