Hurricane Ida devastates Lousiana and the GUlf..

The tide is rising in Philly, and this is the worst flooding I have ever seen in Center City. Sandy, Floyd, the great Nor’easter? None of them have resulted in this much flooding. I676 is a River.

Heavy rain from Ida in Eastern Mass where I am. Not terrible flooding generally, but low spots with poor drainage are flooded out.

Just arriving here now. 40-60mm rain predicted and some gusty breezes. Nothing to be concerned about. The dogs have been for their daily run at the off leash park so we will just stay indoors till it passes.

23 dead from Ida flooding in the North East.
Ida will not go down as one of the worst stroms in US history. Nobody thought the rains would be this bad.
Just proves my point that nowhere is safe from natural didader.
Should we plan on depppulating New Jersey as Well?

Any way ,in a way, Ida had a nasty surprise ending up her sleeve in the devastation and huge loss of life n the Northeast, when people thought she had already done all her really bad stuff in Lousiana.
No doubt now, the name Ida will be retired from the lUS Weather Bureau's name list of Storms.
It works like sports, when a storm is really destructive, it's name is retired....

Officially the 2nd worst flood on record. I think the worst one was back in 1869 where the Schuylkill topped out at 17 feet. With Ida, it topped at 16.4.

#3 was 14.8 feet.

The roads are just a mess. Thank god I don't have to drive anywhere and thankfully for my wife the EL is still going.

I can get hate for Texas, but why New Jersey?

Jersey has a few nice areas but a lot of it is just an endless suburb and the areas right outside of NYC are just pretty nasty (refineries, etc). It's cities also give it a bad rep particularly Trenton and Camden, though Jersey City and Hoboken have improved.

I have never been in New Jersey...got close in my trip to New York City but it sounds no worse then SoCal, which is pretty much solid subrubs from LA to San Diego.
And, like many, when visulizing Jersey, I think of the "Sopranos".

Death Toll up to 43.

Ida was very good at exceeding even the most pessimistic projections about her destructive powers.

Born under a bad sign, baby...

Me too.

New Jersey is one of those places that is talked bad by people, even those who have never been there. Everyone else does it so it must be bad!

Just saw footage of the town in Jersey that was pretty much wrecked by that tornado.
Un freaking beleivable. Before, I thought the Tornados had just touched down without doing much damage.(which happens regulary in areas that do not have normally have tornados in severe storms).but the Town looked just like a town in Oklahoma that had been wrecked. I guess all of the North America might become Tornado Alley with the changed climate.

At least one of the tornados that touched down was an EF-3.

This guy took a video of a tornado hitting his house.

Mulica Hill got plastered. I'm reading Social Media posts of my friends in SNJ and they are stunned by the damage.
