horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

I forgot that the letter caused a HAZMAT team response as well.

That would have been very expensive.

It's really quite a serious crime if you think about it. Hazmat team expense, FBI agents investigating BS when there are real matters to attend to, police doing likewise...

Hell, even the disservice this all does to other stories competing for media time like the Aurora shooting there in Illinois as well.

I even feel a lot of sympathy for all the soft hearted lefties who expended mental and emotional energy over this on Jussie's behalf. Feeling awful about the state of our country, feeling awful about being white, etc.

The entire progressive worldview and bringing people up in schools to be ashamed of their entire history as a people (much of school now is just one thing after another you should feel ashamed of if you're white) is essentially just psychological abuse.

Jussie plugged into the existing framework of psychological abuse towards whites which exists and tried to squeeze some attention, fame, sympathy and money out of it.

In the process, he treated a lot of very goodhearted people very poorly and abused their good nature. I can only hope shenanigans like his will help to lead to this entire structure collapsing.

James Woods' Twitter feed has a hilarious series of tweets linking Smollett's "lynching" to an anti-lynching bill sponsored by Kamala Harris:

Twitter, unconfirmed, grain of salt, etc. Still this alleged timeline is pretty funny:

I have to admit I would absolutely love it if right at the moment when all of these PoC are entering congress and being touted as "oh it's the most diverse ever!" - if one of the most prominent ones, and one already announced as running in 2020, were to be exposed as engaging in this kind of total clown world behavior. Also, blatantly anti-white behavior. Framing her racial and political adversaries like this.

It would be downright epic and I'm hoping there's some way it is true and gets exposed, if so.

Would really help to delegitimize people with no business having legitimacy.

Should we have reported the skepticism we were hearing from sources sooner? Possibly. But we erred on the side of caution.

I wonder if he erred on the side of caution with regard to the Covington Catholic narrative.

To me one of the most interesting aspects of the story is the fact that we have a guy that had a successful career that many would dream of as a professional actor, but it seems what he really wanted was to get the sympathy and attention of being the victim of a certain kind of hate crime. The motivation was so strong that he spent a good amount of money and effort to try and stage the perfect progressive "I told you so" hate crime story with himself at the center.

Think about that for a moment. It is almost as if the highest status one can achieve within certain segments of the population is that of a certain kind of victimhood.

I can't join the "I told you so" chorus, precisely because of this. I was leaning toward believing the story. I couldn't imagine someone in his position jeopardizing his career for this sort of stunt. I just don't get it.

What will it take to get a confession out of this guy? Does he seriously expect anyone to believe that his buddies from Empire are racist homophobes?

Opinion piece in the Washington Post from a fan of the show:

I doubted Jussie Smollett. It breaks my heart that I might be right.

But even before these latest details emerged, when I first heard of the attack on Smollett, I had to pause. . . .

I wanted to believe Smollett. I really did.
. . .
I wanted to believe him with every fiber of my being, most of all because the consequences if he were lying were almost too awful to contemplate.

And yet I struggled with Smollett’s story.
If Smollett’s story is found to be untrue, it will cause irreparable damage to the communities most affected. Smollett would be the first example skeptics cite when they say we should be dubious of victims who step forward to share their experiences of racist hate crimes or sexual violence. The incident would be touted as proof that there is a leftist conspiracy to cast Trump supporters as violent, murderous racists. It would be the very embodiment of “fake news.”

And that reason, more than any other, is why I need this story to be true, despite its ugliness and despite what it would say about the danger of the world I live in. The damage done would be too deep and long-lasting. This could be one tragedy that the Lyon family — and more importantly, the ordinary people who loved the show and invested in Smollett and his character — could never overcome.

People jeopardize their careers with stupid stunts all the time. What makes Smollett so special?

Certain behaviours seem to make no sense except as ways of attention-seeking.
There was a huge outpouring of support for Smollett following this alleged attack. All the people involved in Empire sent messages of love and support both personally and publicly on Twitter or otherwise. Lots of other celebrities and politicians also voiced support for him. Ellen Page went on TV to weepily talk about how it's probably Mike Pence's fault. IOW, he received a lot of positive attention from it.

Note that some people hurt themselves or their children as a way to seek attention and love (Munchausen syndrome).

I don't know if this fits into Histrionic personality disorder, but maybe something like that. I don't know the guy personally so I can't really say.
