Is "conspiracy to pervert the course of justice" an offence in the US?

Not if it was supposed to be a private act with no police involved. A barroom story with a supporting cast, if you will.

Cory Booker first said: "the vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching." Now he says "I'm going to withhold [comment] until all the information actually comes out."
I must have missed that- who got it?
For what criminal offenses? They were not even in the country, so they can't be accused of even knowing Smollett was going public with this.
I'm afraid I'm having a hard time figuring out how the body building brothers could be completely innocent with the facts as I think I understand them.
That happened? And I thought this story couldn't get any sillier.Remember when gay activist fanatic Ellen Page blamed The Vice President for jussie’s Hate hoax?

Someone mailed that letter. The stamps on it are cancelled. That was a felony.
Plus, you just never know what a GJ will come down with.
Assuming the GJ story is true.
Also assuming the prosecutor isn't using the GJ to prevent charges from being brought. That is, as cover for not bringing charges.
It is rather difficult to come up with a positive or neutral reason one would stage a beating.
Maybe for some reason, Jussie believed he was being written out of Empire, even though it was not true?
It would have been really good to see Jussie's expression when the police told him the camera he was pointing at, was facing in the wrong direction...
But it's TMZ...
ugh...
I'm over TMZ. From here on out, it's gotta official police statements, or mainstream media citing named sources on the record. And nothing from Smollett, his lawyers, or his PR firm.TMZ reporting that this will be given to a grand jury?

I wonder if that was the (otherwise inexplicable) reason for involving both brothers? Each could point to the other and say 'I didn't know anything about a letter, mustv'e been him'. There have been cases where a jury couldn't determine exactly who committed a specific crime. Without film of the men attacking JS, they couldn't even prove it was one or the other involved. Can't nail conspiracy down positively, either.
I think he intended for this to be a performance on camera.
I think he was stunned to learn that no camera captured it.
Otherwise, I can't see any reason to involve two other people.
I think he also thought there was no way CPD could ever locate the brothers.
If you want to disconnect yourself from purchases or mailing a letter, you only need one other person at most, and you don't really need that if you work it properly.
Involving two other people, and paying them, is guaranteeing failure, imo.
Yet another actor learns that directing isn't as easy as it looks!
