Googled my nick, real name, MrsB's first name, JREF location, my email addy in various combinations. Returned nothing that would i.d. me.

<sob> ... so dull ...

I'm not getting anything either. I do get address and phone listings with my name and my business name, but nothing with my username except JREF posts.

It seems that Twitter and FB are some of the biggest privacy offenders. Most sites keep your email private. If one is getting FB and Twitter accounts by searching one's email address, the address is not private.

Yikes. Searched for my handle and location. Very first result has my full name (and I link to so really really bad poetry I did some time back).

The shame!

Ironically if you search for my full name and location, you only get a picture of my avatar (on the first page). My full name is extremely common.

Yeah, this thread has been cold water to the face. I'm glad, for all SA's faults, that I live in a free country (for now :O) that does not persecute atheists or skeptics.

Finding information about people is incredibly easy.
But mostly it is down to luck.
It has relatively little to do with "not leaving a trace" as a whole oak tree, complete with every branch, twig and leaf can be discovered with only a cursory knowledge of which key is next to Q on the keyboard.

At the same time, armed with a plethora of information it can become a futile exercise.

Privacy laws in The Uk are somewhat stricter than those in The US.
But with a little patience it is very easy to gain information that should, in theory, be unavailable to the general public.

A fascinating topic that I wish hadn't gone under my radar.

Searching anglolawyer and surrey, I found a forum where there were lots of curious posts quoting anglolawyer, yet no posts actually written by anglolawyer. The text that anglolawyer supposedly posted appeared in posts by first-name-last-name, as if you'd changed your handle on that forum from anglolawyer to your real name and the software had dynamically changed the name in all the first posts but not in the quoted posts.

Searching for first-name-last-name, I found a post by that name on a different forum, suggesting that people check out your posts on another forum where you went by anglolawyer, so that confirmed it.

Or you could have just looked on the JREF Forums. :D

Through Googling, I found connections exactly where I placed them.

There are sites like Spokeo or pipl that aggregate this sort of thing, with more detailed but non-free results.

Apparently there are a number of "gordintoronto"'s. The only Gord_in_Toronto is here on the JREFF.

My name IRL is absolutely unique in the Whole Wide World. Just Googling it produces 11,300,000 results because my last name is a phrase in a non-English language. You have to do a lot of filtering to extract the true me.

With quotes it results in 28 hits but misses some because I often use just an initial for my first name. Included are an old address and phone number, a single post that leaked to the Internet from a supposedly closed forum and the name of a famous dead science fiction writer.

:shy:

I just googled my handle and got over 80 million links to some aged super hero :D
So i say, good luck with that.

Good luck getting info on me by just my JREF handle. Even adding the location won't help much, as far as I can tell. Nor will the information in my profile. If you got me, please PM me. You can pick up many hints from my posts though that might get you there.
