Have you ever tried to dox yourself?

I tried this evening based soley on what's available from my JREF profile - Octavo, Cape Town. I thought I was doing well until a search on one of the social media sites outed pretty convincingly. It probably shouldn't surprise me. I have. more and more, as I started to consume social media, associated my real name with my internet handle.

So, have you doxxed yourself? Did the results scare you?

I believe that revealing a members personal information is against the MA, so please don't do that. If anyone wishes to have their anonymity tested though, I'll PM you my best guesses

I don't know what 'dox' means either, but I'd be interested in having my anonymity probed! LOL!

It's often surprisingly easy to do. People leave a lot of footprints.

I use my real name as my handle because it keeps me from doing anything too ridiculous online (for the most part anyway, but I was young and needed the money.) I generally try not to do anything that I wouldn't want attached to myself. Hopefully that keeps me more tolerable than I might otherwise be, but at the least, it ought to avoid any real trouble I could get into for my opinions. I have listed my location well enough that anyone who actually wanted to find me would have an easy time doing so, in spite of the relatively large number of Jason Patterson's in the US.

Just today I accidentally found out a user's real name. I wanted to see a larger version of a picture they posted and it happened to lead to their Photobucket account, which was open for anyone to see, with all their personal photos and apparently real name. Don't know if they chose to make all that public, but it sure was.
