Remember to play sensibly, sip per Tory, shot per front bench Tory, two for Sunak and Badenoch: chug the bottle.I

And no operating heavy machinery on the 5th (unless you happen to be working on Tufton St in which case :) go for it!)

FFS! I have to be up the next day to watch stage 7 of the Tour de France, which is, appropriately, through the vineyards of Burgundy.

Hmmm, do I need to splash out on a few bottles of La Romaneé or La Taché or Le Montrachet to help me through? Chance would be a fine thing...

According to the Tories and Reform, PR is one of the things Labour will bring in to ensure they are in power forever.
Close but no cigar, as it appears Labour will instead bring in automatic voter registration.

Another one of those things that really should already exist really.

I would have booked Friday off work but alas my colleague is on holiday that week and no one else can cover. Fortunately I will be working from home so if I doze off during the day I can probably get away with it.

I'm trying to remember which recent general election it was, that had some serious delays due each polling station relying on a single electoral roll to verify voters were registred?

IIRC the Electoral Commission was slammed for it, but argued that they couldn't do anything about as their hands were bound by the rules set by parliament.

The problem being, of course, that any party in a position to make a change will have been elected under the current system, and they will be reluctant to change it since they might end up worse off next time around.

That’s why the referendum was such a unique opportunity, and we blew it. :(

Isn’t that an admission that Labour will be so popular that they'd always win an election based on vote share ?

Quite a self-own there from the political right.

I think it was more the realisation that the "progressive" vote is always greater than the Tory vote, so they'd always be in the minority to a progressive alliance, rather than the Labour party outright. That might then lead to the Tories splitting into irreconcilable factions.

Ironic, huh?

Rish! continues to claim a Labour government will result in everyone paying £2,000 more in tax, despite having been told off repeatedly for using that figure.

Quite remarkable.

And CCHQ Twitter account has changed its name to Tax Check UK

There was some talk about state pensions and tax in this thread earlier, and it was also raised in tonight's mudslinging extravaganza. Here's what the BBC noted on the issue:
Rishi Sunak told the audience that under a future Labour government, “the state pension will be subject to a retirement tax”.

Pensioners relying solely on the state pension are on course to potentially pay a small amount of income tax in 2027-28, because the state pension in that year (£12,578) is forecast to marginally overtake the tax-free personal allowance (£12,570).

The Conservative triple lock plus policy - which raises the personal allowance for pensioners to £13,710 by 2027-28 - would remove that risk.

Labour haven’t said yet whether they would match it or not. But note, the Conservatives only unveiled the policy within the last couple of weeks, so to present this as a planned Labour tax rise is a bit disingenuous.

And bear in mind that the Conservatives’ triple lock plus would only save someone living solely on the state pension around £29 a year.

******* Sunak just said we should trust him because he has two daughters and he wants to create a country where they can prosper.

He is richer than the King! do we think they will be going to food banks?

Having children doesn’t give you immunity from being a total ****.

Does he think they'll be living in the UK once they're free to join the super rich jetset?

"I know your Bestie has hired all of Disneyland for her private Eighteenth birthday party tomorrow, but you have to get on that private jet and fly back to the UK, the OAPs of Wolverhampton are depending on you to pick up their prescriptions!"

Anybody know what Bad Enough said to get David Tennant so annoyed with her and Starmer so hot to defend her?

Looking at the BBCs report on it 'Body of Work'

Tennant won a prize for being a "celebrity ally" at the awards show and used his speech to criticise Equalities Minister Mrs Badenoch.

In his acceptance speech he said: "If I'm honest I'm a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they're not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special award or special mention, because it's common sense, isn't it?"

He said it was "human decency", adding: "We shouldn't live in a world where that is worth remarking on.

"However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist any more - I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up - whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this."
