Expelled from college for watching "Glee"

You know in my numerous readings of the Bible I have yet to find the verse that says "Go now and force all people to follow these rules" yet from the way it seems a lot if not most of the conservative christians out there behave, you'd think it was in there somewhere.

It is stunningly amazing to me that so many people don't seem to realise that Christianity is about getting your life right with God, not trying to do it with everyone else's, and that you simily can't force it onto anyone else. What is even more stunning to me is that those same people seem to be so willing to try to do just that.

Is there something I can nominate that for?

Rolfe.

Altogether now: "...land of the freeeee.....a-and home of the braaaaave"

I have zero problem with students going to a college that has strict rules about behavior. I know Christian kids who chose such colleges specifically because they didn't want to the distractions and pressures of the sex/alcohol environment so common at many schools.

But I expect such colleges to exhibit as much integrity as they expect for their students. This sort of targeting is not okay.

The Laff-A-Lympics were rigged.

Well, the Really Rottens tried to, that's for sure.

I didn't mind the others, though, because I hate Yogi Bear, so hated that group. And the Scooby-Doobies had Grape-Ape, so how could you not love them?

I agree with a lot of what has been said here except for a couple of important things. Glee is not a show to watch for appropriate sexual boundaries. I'll admit that I don't like the show but that's probably because it reminds me of professional wrestling with slightly better music but worse dancing. Like it or hate it, that's neither here nor there. My point is a show with so many downright busted Aesops and double standards with sexuality. Now I've only watched a bit of it, but I've seen the anti-homophobia message ruined by busting it with 'it's fine for gay people to disrespect boundaries on their straight crush'. (I believe one of the guys was named Fin in that one.) There's also sleeping with people as revenge for something like having an fling with someone else before the couple got together. Oh, and if you dislike wanton sexual advances from a gay guy, that makes you an *******. Then of course there was one I had the pleasure to hear from my friends about lying to your boyfriend you have not slept with because you claim not to be ready for sex and telling him that he is the father of your baby (from a hot tub?!?) when you really cheated on him. She's apparently supposed to be one of the good guys.

Yeah, a great place to discuss sexual boundaries and how people on the show suck at romance and/or behave horribly. Granted, that happens in real life too, but in real life you don't have story techniques to inform you that someone doing wrong is supposed to be the good guy and it be alright.

I'm reminded of:

“Christian, n.: one who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor.”
― Ambrose Bierce

TV is not a source for learning or teaching about sexual boundaries. It's just entertainment and should be treated as such. School officials overstepped their authority.

TV is not life - they're all fictional characters. Some people seem to have a problem grasping that concept (Murphy Brown vs. Dan Quayle)

School officials overstepped their authority.

They really didn't. It's a private school; it is very up-front about the strict behavioral requirements if you choose to attend.

The school officials abused their discretion by singling out and finding excuses to punish this student. But there's nothing wrong with a school that requires and enforces a very strict behavioral code for their students.

Supposed by whom?

Dude, I think you have missed the point completely.

Even the "good" characters are flawed. Life is not as simple as good guys and bad guys.

I just watched the latest Glee episode, and I felt my IQ drop twenty point. So perhaps the school did have a legitimate concern.

I also felt like committing wonton acts of violence against certain writers, producers, and fans, but that is a minor side issue.

Is that where you take them to a Chinese buffet and drown them in one of the soup vats?

Spelling aside, at least one band might write a song in your honor if you do:

That place is about 20 minutes down the highway from my house. Years ago a married couple whom we are friends with went to see the art collection at BJU. They were asked to leave because they are a "mixed race" couple. The school used to have a prohibition against "interracial dating", but changed the policy after their tax-exempt status was threatened.

It's a scary, weird place.

That should be within mortar range, if you're willing to host fuelair and me for an afternoon. :D

How soon after the art show was the bonfire?

Don't blame me for taking her side. For the longest time I also thought Dan Quayle was a made-up character.
