Expelled from college for watching "Glee"

Bob Jones used to be a big deal in Republican politics -- as in most of their pres candidates would speak at the school in the run-up to the SC primary. They also had a religiously informed rule against interracial dating, which was then overturned under outside pressure. And thus the textual dexterity of their unchanging sacred book was once again demonstrated.

I did a Google search on the school - one of the hits was BJ university cheer girls. Thought it might be a laugh to see what they get up in

Needless to say it turns out the BJ did not stand for Bob Jones

I have replicated your google results.

That's how science works!

What kind of moron would want to go to the BJU anyway? Getting expelled is doing this guy a favor.

Took me a minute! lol.

Ha! I heard that one from my Dad when he said they wanted to re-named his alma mater the Southern Halifax Institute of Technology.

But, seriously, how is it that this could come as a surprise to a guy attending an overtly fundamentalist school?

Well, I suppose if he's really that stupid, it would explain why he didn't make it into any other schools....

Bob Jones. Intolerantly stubborn against gays and lesbians.

big·ot·ry

  1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.

That place is about 20 minutes down the highway from my house. Years ago a married couple whom we are friends with went to see the art collection at BJU. They were asked to leave because they are a "mixed race" couple. The school used to have a prohibition against "interracial dating", but changed the policy after their tax-exempt status was threatened.

It's a scary, weird place.

I doubt he is stupid. Just good at exposing ignorance and intolerance. I salute him.

No kidding.

Three weeks before graduation,

Yeah, wasting your entire time at college to expose "ignorance and intolerance" at just about the last minute? I call that stupid.

Now, if he'd pulled this during frosh week, you might have a point.

Okay, he's stupid, still, Bob Jones wallows in ignorance and intolerance. We are in agreement, right?

I just watched the latest Glee episode, and I felt my IQ drop twenty point. So perhaps the school did have a legitimate concern.

I also felt like committing wonton acts of violence against certain writers, producers, and fans, but that is a minor side issue.

Well yes, that much is obvious.

At least to everybody but BJU students, I suppose.

I'm no fan of BJU, but that sounds like a good policy. I'd add any of the reality Housewives and American Idol to the list.

If you haven't read the CNN article, I recommend it. It's an interesting story of religious totalitarianism.

Peterman's first demerits were for tweeting during a Bible conference, but he says he sent the message five minutes before it started. Tweets have exact times recorded with them, so I find this curious. Evidence is clear, but maybe the old masters don't know how to read it (or want to ignore inconvenient facts).

Peterman's second round of demerits were for watching TV off-campus, even though that is not prohibited. I think Peterman was probably doing the Christian thing, finding a way to do what you want around the letter of the law.

His third pack of demerits were for copying to his Facebook page the lyrics to a Christian country song. The "Dean of Men" had been regularly monitoring Peterman's Facebook page and grilling him about it several times a week.

Smells like a bunch of excuses to me.

If Bob Jones U. had expelled Peterman for his activism against sexual abuse, they would have Streisanded that scandal. Their PR people seem to have thought of a better way to make it clear not to question the representatives of God on Earth.
