Europe is not a nation!

Bjorn:
Ergo: Europe is not a nation, state nor country. Pretty much the same way 'America' isn't.

european

adj : of or relating to or characteristic of Europe or the people of Europe; "European Community" [syn: European] n : a native or inhabitant of Europe [syn: European]

Dictionary.com says "European Community" is synonymous with "European". The European Community is a nation according to the same source. Thus, all the definitions in my last post apply, and Darat is, with all due respect, wrong.

But your claim was that 'Europe' is a nation, we all know that the European Union is one (well, sort of).

By your dictionarian logics 'American' means something from the United States of America and thus 'America' is a nation:

american
adj: of or relating to the United States of America or its people or language or culture

Europe looks pretty much like this (although changing):

europe.gif

Dictionary.com:

grey
adj: independent countries in europe (not members of the european union)
:p

Your definitions still don't apply to Europe ....

You all seem to have it wrong about those people that live in the USA.

They are all called Mericans.

In conversations about nationalities:

"What are you?" "An Austrailian."
"What are you?" "An Austrian"
"What are you?" "A Merican."

I've been introduced dozens of times to Mericans. They all seem to be Mericans.

Other than those that are 1 gazillionth Polish, 2 five-hundredths German, 27 nanometers Russian, 4 quarts Apache with a half-jewish-islam-protestocatholic-great-great-grand brother, but prefer to be called a Zogga-Merican if I wish to be accurate. Or variations on the same theme.

This is true. "My fellow Americans" has never referred to the entire Western hemisphere.

My definitions were actually from the site - yours is a complete fabrication. Oh, how your credibility has shot up.

European is synonymous with EC according to Dictionary.com, and a European is a person from Europe. Perhaps you should look up 'synonymous', and then look up 'concede'.

Eh, no. This one is straight from your own source, dictionary.com:

american
adj: of or relating to the United States of America or its people or language or culture
So again, by your dictionarial trickery it proves that 'America' is a country.

Oh, how your credibility has shot up.
I think you refer to the credibility of dictionary.com .... :p

And how does this statement in any way prove that Europe is a nation?

Face it - it isn't. I know saying 'it isn't' doesn't count as evidence, but if you stare at the map for a while, maybe you'll see what I mean? ;)

Yeah. The issue is over Europe. 'America' is the USA to most of the world - which is a country. I'm glad you finally discovered this.

These definitions from Dictionary.com say otherwise. You Europeans........
No they don't EU doesn't qualify as a state or a nation, perhaps you should look up the word "state" and explain how the EU commision, parlament, council of ministers or all of them together is "The supreme public power" in the EU area.

Edited to add: I don't have any problem with people refering to EU citizens as Europeans or US citizens as Americans, but the whole "EU is a state" thing is simply propaganda from the opponents of the EU.

No, that one was my own - but it's still correct. The grey areas on the map are exactly what the definition is saying. Which, by the way, shows that Europe is not a country.

If you don't believe that, I can't help you. Refusing to look through binoculars didn't work the last time either. :)

Hear that? It's the sound of me no longer caring. Darat's dislikes are not going to prevent me from using the term in any given way.
