DeSantis Martha's Vineyard Stunt

Yeah we have a term for people who joined the Nazi Party out pragmatism or expedience or because "I'm totally not a Nazi but loookit how triggered da Jews are."

That term is "Nazi"

Which ignores those who used their positions in the party to help the Jews et al.

I figured you could help Jews more by not being a Nazi.

But they weren't Nazis, they were members of the party because they pretty much had to be.

Are you genuinely not aware of Oskar Schindler's story? That his position in the Nazi party enabled him to grease palms and save over a thousand people?

Again, actual Nazis were and still are evil. Members of the party during 1933-1945 who used their position to work against the aims of the party were not.

Some of y'all will nitpick the most ridiculous stuff. Absolutely none of this could possibly end with "... so let's not jump to conclusions when someone is okay with Nazis."

Oh absolutely. I agree with that. People who believe Nazi ideologies are awful people period. No discussion. No argument. If you're a Nazi, you're a ******* waste of skin.

That's assuming you have a way to be effective in prevention at the start. If not, then you might find yourself in a Nazi state, where visibly taking the side of the Jews would be at best futile and at worst fatal. So you have to decide the most useful way to operate within it. In the real world, values are almost always alloyed. Pure good is theoretical, but rarely practical. That you can't save them all is a poor reason not to save any.

From the world's point of view, rescuing a single dog doesn't change the world, but from the dog's point of view, it sure does. If we always wait for the opportunity to do what we are told we should, we may miss the opportunity to do what we can.

One does, of course, run into some standard dilemmas, and perhaps a person such as Schindler could have done the noble thing and either refused to work within the system and been a martyr, uttering timeless aphorisms as he was shot, or refused to work within the system and emigrated, uttering timeless wisdom in his diatribes against the tyrants.

In some Philosophy 101 environments, this would be considered more moral than staying and pretending to be a Nazi and trying to save a few people, knowing that he must lie, and keep silent as many others perish. Better, some would say, to disavow the whole thing and let the Nazis shoulder the whole responsibility. If there's a god who judges at the end and sets things right, maybe that's the best thing, but it's cold comfort to the people who might have been saved and were not because it's bad form to play god.

To me this has nothing to do with the question of whether an ideological Nazi can be a good person, to which I resoundingly say "no," but more to do with the ethics of what amounts to a kind of espionage.

Purposely snide and hopefully jocular warning here to Joe Morgue: you have, as I recall, expressed a robust dislike of philosophy in general. Let us not, then, condemn Schindler for what appears to have been a resounding rejection of Kant.

DeSantis is still banging the drum. DeSantis appeared very angry at the news conference Tuesday, warning would-be looters, "We're a Second Amendment state."
Three of four suspects arrested in Lee County on looting charges were in the country illegally, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis. Florida’s Republican Governor made the announcement Tuesday during a news conference in Fort Myers about the response to Hurricane Ian. He has touted “law and order” in Southwest Florida following the destruction from the Category 4 hurricane, and Tuesday’s update connected that effort with his opposition to President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.

“These are people that are foreigners, they’re illegally in our country, but not only that, they try to loot and ransack in the aftermath of a natural disaster,” DeSantis told reporters. “They should be prosecuted, but they need to be sent back to their home country. They should not be here at all.” News link Florida Politics dot com

As emergency crews searched devastated areas of the state, the death toll from Ian has risen to over 100.

So why weren't they shot on the spot? They are "illegals", they were looting, it's a 2A state...just shoot them! Go ahead! BANG, right through the head. It's all good - Ron said it was. Just do it, and put it on Youtube too as a warning to other would-be illegals.

I'm waiting...

Oh, and just to be clear, this is SARCASM! :sarcasm:

DeSantis is on a roll.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in an interview this week that the national media wanted Hurricane Ian to hit Tampa Bay, broadly claiming that coverage of the deadly storm was motivated by a "political agenda."...DeSantis' office then pointed to a number of local and national stories primarily focused on Hurricane Ian and climate change. Of course this begs the question: is one of the aspects of climate change more intense and deadly hurricanes? But DeSantis won't talk about that. I'm sure he's gotten his marching orders from the corporate donors: "Leave that one alone, Ron. Just don't talk about it." No sir, just target the media and immigrants.

Real leadership. :(

Wow. Coverage of a devastating hurricane is just a politically motivated attack on him.

Exactly how is everything about you, Ron? What a ******* child.

Well, after all... Hurricane Ian was the result of the Left's Deep State "weather manipulation technology" targeting red counties in a red state according to two right-wing jerks.

The nickname Duh Santis really is accurate isn't it?

Still, I'd say this definitely makes him very like Trump in one way. He's a thin skinned narcissist.

I think DeSantis is quite thick-skinned and is just using Trump's script.

He even does the invisible accordion crap. Shamless imitation of Trump mannerisms and tactics.

And he entered the country illegally.
