Split Thread Conservative Voices (Split from Muller Investigation)

Concerning a UBI:
Alaska has had one for 25 years now.

Yeah, it's just really small compared to some of the bigger ideas about a UBI being floated about how to prepare for the end game of globalization and automation taking over a freaky percentage of jobs in the coming economy.

My sense is that it's going to hinge on a consensus being formed about if this is true/correct, and what it's real limits are.

Bible says a lot of things, many of which contradict other things.

"X is acting / not acting like a Christian" is an amazingly meaningless statement.

That's why the early Christians should've written a single, definitive gospel, and write a summary of Genesis and Exodus and be done with it; make sure there are no major contradictions.

Yeah, but at the time, you could totally see it - why bother, the only ones who can read this are the priests, and no one is allowed to question it anyway.

I've known a lot of Christians (Southern Baptist types) who would say the core message of Christian ideology is just "Accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and the Bible is the inerrant word of God". No real ideology besides that.

As a former Baptist, I'd say they weren't paying attention. Sure, accepting JC is required for salvation, but are they seriously ignoring the beattitudes and the preaching of Jesus?

Your point is understood. There are more than a few Christians who believe that the simple declaration that Jesus is their savior as a free pass to do whatever they want.

Tbf, It's kind of a "thing" with most Southern Californians to think that they're the center of the Universe wrt ... well, anything you'd care to talk about, really.

I've noticed that in my work in engineering, as well. There, it's almost cute to let them pretend (and the area actually is highly important when it comes to tech - they're #1 in the US, out of several contenders) As far as Black American culture/experiences, the south is basically the motherland, for obvious reasons. Latinx depends on which group, specifically, you're discussing.

ANd you'll note that I mostly keep my mouth shut about Asian and Native people, apart from things that are easy to determine on the internet.

Stefan Molyneaux appears none to healthy to me. "defooing"? No thanks.

He's strongly against corporal punishment, as I recall...and that's all I can say that's positive about him. He's not even innovative there, so...

What do you ladies and gents think about the latest videos out of https://www.projectveritas.com/

Nothing burger? Evidence of some subversive elements within agencies?

The stuff where O'Keefe is dressed like inspector gadget?

Untrustworthy source. Their ACORN sting videos were deceptively edited, as have the rest of their videos when reviewed. They were most recently used by prosecutors in the "J20" trials, which proved harmful to the prosecution.

Also, O'Keefe tried to beak into Mitch Landriau's offices by dressing as a telephone operator, which is a crime, and tried to get a CNN reporter onto a boat where he planned to hit on her like Dennis on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They're not at all trustworthy, in other words.

I did not watch the videos as I have no sound on this computer.

But frankly, I don't think I need to.

James O'Keefe long ago demonstrated that he simply cannot be trusted with presenting reality in his videos.

His attempts at entrapment are pathetic, most often result in failure, and he has to present a severely chopped up video to present a different story to what actually happened.

He got away with it on ACORN. He will not get away with it again.

Of course, the usual suspects eat his stuff up.

Please, where is this clarion call for open borders? I'm not hearing it. You seem to be confusing wanting humane enforcement of our immigration laws with open borders. Or perhaps it's the entirely sane and reasonable objection to a border wall we don't need and can't afford as a call for open borders? Setting aside a few fringe voices, the Democratic Party is not calling for open borders.
Sadly Keith Ellison has taken that literal position. He had a tee shirt on with the message "... no borders".

I think he picked up a lot of Bernie Democrats but when I saw that I considered him fringe.

The Kochs weren't spawned from the John Birch society. The father of the Koch Brothers was nvolved in the formation of the John Birch Society and the Federalist Society. There is probably no one on the right more involved in what was a fringe right ideology that has become mainstream than the Kochs. If you really want to see a political conspiracy right out in the open see what the Kochs have been doing for the last 50 years. I hate them but I have to tip my cap to how effective they have been.
Weren't spawned?

Kelly, I'm not claiming that this is a scientific study I made. I just have the impression that the social discourse in that section has become more belligerent and more polarised since 2005, that's all.
Oh dear, that's when I came. :p

I don't think anyone here can deny the infiltration of bad science, pro-Christian government, and various CTs into the right wing.

Could be the right wingers we could have a decent discussion with appear to be leaning left.

I wish we could have open borders, but I think we are a long way from that now. There is far too much inequity for that to be something that would work particularly on our Southern border. If you have ever been to Europe, you can easily travel throughout Europe without ever stopping at a guarded border crossing.

...and there you have yet one more example of the reason you don't get much discourse from other viewpoints on isf. Big broad brushes sweeping through millions of humans in places and cultures they have never lived in (or even visited!)... and rudely, I might add.

My big concern for my area - and my child - is that increased racial tensions are imported here. It's an infection I am against. My daughter is part black/hispanic and so proud of it. I hope she never ever meets people so dismissive and divisive.

Think of it as you will. As long as people aren't murdering each other over it, I think it's cute.

Um...And you said you see many advantages to, of all people, the current president!? Not wanting to see racial hatred is exactly why I strongly asked people, on this forum, to vote for Hillary Clinton, and he has performed exactly as badly as I expected, straight down to complimenting Nazi fetishists and bringing white nationalists like Steve Bannon to the White House!

I was being kind before, but now I'm forced to question your judgement. What on earth were you thinking?

But here's the thing: If you want "other viewpoints" expressed on ISF, then just express those "other viewpoints". Yes, those viewpoints are likely to be challenged by the progressive members here, but isn't that the opposite of the "echo chamber" you are so afraid of? You know, actual debate?

I'm new here, but I'm pretty sure that the mods don't ban people for simply being conservatives.

The main advantage I saw was the move left on social issues. If Hillary had won, you'd have the house and senate still talking 'bible law' crap about marriage and gays and 'traditional values'. The longer he is there, the more trouble they have moving back to marketing that narrative. It's a huge leapfrog away from evangelical thinking. Trump isn't one to quote a bible verse!
They also have more trouble making their 'deals' with lobbyists and donors. As inexperienced as Trump is in policy, he doesn't give a crap about that or protecting those people. His focus is on trade and always has been for 30 years. Employment. GDP. Numbers. Winning. That is all he really cares about. He isn't well versed in anything else. He isn't good at anything else!
But....he is useful.

You think he is racist and inciting hatred? Tell me what you see when you walk out your front door and go about your day. More Chaos? Terror? Hatred? Intolerance? I don't.
There were more race riots under Obama. In fact, have there been any big ones this year? Are they coming? I keep hearing bad things are coming. Bad things don't materialize. It's been 2 years of scare tactics. Everyone seems to be doing ok... in real life. If I didn't watch or read the news I'd think things were going very well! In the media, it's Armageddon. They need to stop crying wolf at every turn. I am desensitized.

When he and his bigly ideas are gone, someone can come in and do the big national kumbaya for anyone offended with his crass tactics... and that is a valid point. He isn't an empath for sure.
I, for one, would be happy for him to stop the tweets. Just step away. Maybe someone can drop his phone in water 'accidentally' every day. He is his own worst enemy in that regard.

I don't consider it to be debate. I just want to hear a persuasive argument. I have yet to hear one for anything Trump has done. Please Republicans, tell me with evidence why your way is better. Show how you will create an economy and a country that is good for us all and not just those that are more privileged. Show us your great health plan to replace the affordable care act that will not leave millions without coverage. Show me what you will do about the homeless and global warming. Show how you will protect the environment or prevent predatory lending. What plan do you have to increase wages?

Tell me please, why I should vote for Trump and Republicans.

Tell me please, why I should vote for Trump and Republicans.

What do you want him to do, that is in his power to do, that he has not said he will do?

Single payer would be first on my list and I think he is a proponent of the idea (but cannot do it with the current legislature). Still, he should push it.
What about you? What is first on the list?
