Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

You would be a lot smarter if you actually read what people posted, and responded with respect and wisdom. Instead, you accuse, you bleat, and you denigrate what people have experienced. You make a liar out of your god by your actions. And you still won't answer Fowlsound's question.

Do us a favor: Start being honest with yourself. At least then, you might start being honest with us.
RT, I can assure you I am telling you things I truely believe or I would not say them. I will admit I am not a scholar or theologian, but I am filled with the Holy Spirit which is the 3rd person of the trinity who helps us understand spiritual truth and leads us into all truth if we are truely following Christ and His teachings.

Why do you only respond when you want to say somethiong mean to me?

Kathy

Can I just butt in for the last time here?
RT, I can assure you I am telling you things I truely believe or I would not say them.
Oh yeah, I believe that. You've convinced me 100% that your belief is pure, your faith unshakeable, your love unsurpassable and your devotion boundless.
I will admit I am not a scholar or theologian,
No s##t!
but I am filled with the Holy Spirit which is the 3rd person of the trinity who helps us understand spiritual truth and leads us into all truth if we are truely following Christ and His teachings.
And thus, the nub of the problem is revealed. Kathy, you can be helped. What you need to understand is that Jesus, his dad and the holy-ghosty thing exist only within your brain.

There are lots of perfectly good reasons why you've allowed this to happen, but you've missed the point - it's not real.

Just think, if you allow yourself to be deluded about something which doesn't matter in the least, in the scheme of things - we're all going to croak, die and rot/be incinerated. While you're allowing yourself to be conned by some silver-tonguedd charlatan, what else are you swallowing? You're living a lie and I just wish you wouldn't.

I know that after reading this, you'll just come back with the usual claptrap about who's right and who's wrong, and that you're right because Jesus tells you, personally so!, but it saddens me greatly that a lively, vivacious woman is slowly destroying herself, her personality and life, for a myth started by some cynical b'stards a couple of thousand years back.

Why do you only respond when you want to say somethiong mean to me?
Because:

1. You do not respond to politely worded, legitimate questions.

2. Your own posts are incredibly mean-spirited, self-serving and vindictive.

3. You have demonstrated time and again that you are not interested in actual discussion but only in being allowed to unquestioned posting of nonsensical blather.

You think I'm being mean to you? I've got a hot flash for you, Sweetheart: I haven't even BEGUN to be "mean" to you. Trust me, if I wanted to be mean, they couldn't ban me fast enough.

No, Kathy, you're not a scholar or theologian. However, Dwight L. Moody would have insisted that you at least attempt to be one. When he founded the Moody Bible Institute, everyone, from himself on down to the janitors who cleaned up at night were called "Scholars." When Peggy went to Biola University, (for one year; her math skills were lacking), she was expected to take a full course load in Biblical Theology. The Church where my son Jon is attending presently, Adventure Christian Church, is the same way: He's expected to study the Bible, and to do so not only while he's at the Church, but while he's at home. He's been through the Bible a couple of times that I know of.

However, unlike you, Kathy, Jon does not thump it constantly, thinking that this somehow makes him "holy." He'll argue points with people here on this board, (as Digital Hoser), but at the same time, HE WILL LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING TO HIM! In spite of his differences of opinion with Tricky, the Atheist, and others, he actually learns from them, and even enjoys his discussions with them when he can have them. (Studying Fire Science in college is more than a full time gig for him.)

You're filled with the Holy Spirit? To borrow from Claus, "Evidence?"

You have lied from the start about your purpose here. You lied when you denied what you said on Firestream. You lie when you continue to answer Fowlsound's question. You have demonstrated a mean-spiritedness that leaves even your fellow believers cringing. And while I disagree with Huntster and others, Huntster, for all his bluntness and harshness, is consistent and is trying to be honest. Rather than honoring the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, you are blaspheming Him with your actions.

People here have actually been far kinder to you than you realize by insisting that you be honest with yourself, and with others. Frankly, Peggy has read and listened to some of what you have said, and is insulted by your hatred. You have, at times, been so thrilled with the misery experienced by others on this board, you've practically climaxed. Who's being "mean," Kathy? Frankly, having met Fowlsound face to face, and having experienced his phenomenal kindness, I'm offended that you would suggest that you're somehow being kind by your brutal remarks regarding the man's fight with cancer. It hasn't brought him closer to God; it's pressed him closer to science, because that's what's saving his life, not someone's nattering good thoughts.

If you do little else here, I would suggest you go back and reread some of the posts from MLynn, from Kittynh, from any number of women and men who truly have devoted their lives to service to Christ. You might learn something of genuine humility, as opposed to your blatant condescension. I would suggest you start listening when people tell you that what you're saying is offensive.

In a few weeks, it will have been one year since Enan Smith died from leukemia. There have been any number of people whose words have served to encourage Beth and Alan, and us as well. Yours are not among them. In one year, you have demonstrated you have learned nothing. That, dear lady, is far more indicative of a Satanic view than of a Christian view of life. If it were me facing something so cruel, I'd be looking to change direction, but quick, especially if I were convinced of Christ's imminent return. Based on your actions, I'd have to say that were Christ to return at this instant, you'd be down here with the rest of us dogs. You might want to think about that as you preen and preach and berate the rest of us for our lack of "faith."

In defense of Kathy, all three things can be explained easily.

She can't do anything else. Kathy is not an intelligent or thoughtful person. Kathy can only respond with pre-programmed words (somewhat like the old child's toy "Chatty Cathy"). Kathy cannot participate in discussions because she cannot follow them. Kathy cannot understand your feelings because she doesn't even understand her own. Empathy is out of the question.

Kathy cannot discuss the bible with you because she has never read it, apart from a few verses which someone else interpreted for her.

But because religion has made her feel so good, she thinks that she is actually doing good by trying to share her experience with others. It is sweet, in a childlike sort of way, like the way a child who is giving presents for the first time, gives people exactly the things she wants, even though Grandma probably doesn't want a coloring book.

Kathy really wants to do good, but is incapable of doing so here because she has no powers of reasoning. If she loves licorace, she cannot seem to understand why everybody doesn't love licorace.

Kathy, if you're reading this, I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings. But I'm telling you for your own good that these boards are not good for you. They will only hurt you. You will not win any souls here. What you will win is scorn, or at best, pity. I don't think that is what you want. I hope you find what you want, but you won't find it here. I promise you.

Nominated.

Gee, I almost feel that I'm derailing this by inserting a bumper sticker:

"Fundamentalism Stops a Thinking Mind"
I actually think I have that one around someplace, along with:

"Religions are just Cults with More Members"

I'd be more interested in finding out about how human artifacts, like tools/languages/musical instruments moved. Was monotheism a foreign idea to the Egyptians? Why was Moses seen to be so special? (was Freud's last idea wrong?) How did monotheism move with the plow? How did bureaucracy and stratfied society maintain itself as a viable construct? Why don't we all bow to a king any more? Where is the ultimate and eternal God in all this? Was Calvin right in believing total predestination? Why should I try to be "good" when I could be "happy"?

We Discordians have a catma that states:
"Convictions cause convicts"
or my favorite:
"It is my firm belief that it is a mistake to hold firm beliefs."

Kathy, I notice you have yet to reply to any of what's been said to or about you.

This is one of the reasons you are not respected here. You make these hit and run posts, wail like a little kid when you're called on the slop you post, then come back when you think the heat's off.

It's about time you grew up.

I originally came to this thread for a good laugh at some (my words) stupid believers. Guess I came to the wrong place, huh? This thread has really shifted. I don't think there has been a post about bumper stickers in the last forty pages...

Take this thread to Cuba!

As Garrette pointed out, Akhenaten was one of the earliest known monotheists. He worshiped the sun god, the Aten. Zoroastrianism is another very early form of monotheism, although some forms of its practice weren't strictly monotheistic. I've often wondered if Abraham hadn't been influenced by other, earlier monotheistic traditions.

It may be unrelated, but many historians believe Moses was probably an Egyptian. There is no evidence that the Habe Ru (as the Egyptians called them) were ever slaves of the Egyptians but there is evidence that they were employed by them as mercenaries. It's thought that Moses may have been an Egyptian officer, probably of royal blood, who commanded the Habe Ru. Did he convert to the Hebrew religion? Did the history of Egyptian monotheism have any role to play in his conversion? But at any rate it's probable that the whole reed basket story was created years later to convert their foreign leader and hero into a 'true Hebrew'.

Yup.
