Jackson is a good candidate, but the polling is not looking as strong as I would hope.

Not convinced on the first part;

Well, I said he was a good candidate, not a great candidate.

But, lets look at some of his qualifications:
- He his an experienced politician, with victories in lower level offices (which means he knows how to speak to an audience, how to campaign, etc., and if he wins the senate seat, once in office he has an idea of how governments function)
- The fact that he has been in previous elections means that he likely doesn't have hidden skeletons in his closet. (Unlike Platner, less chance of a last-minute October Surprise like the assault allegations.)
- He has been a rather successful fund-raiser (he has raised roughly 4 times the amount that Collins had in the most recent quarter.)
- He is 58. While I am sure a lot of people would prefer someone younger, he is over a decade younger than Collins (and also younger that Mills, one of the other possible replacements for Platner)
- He has an association with Bernie Sanders (endorsed him in presidential primaries) which will help a little with the progressive side of the party.
- Worked as a logger before entering politics, which can help him look like an "everyman/non-elite" type

...let's remember that he finished third in the Democratic primary for Governor.

Yes he did finish 3rd in the primary. But, according to Wikipedia, the top 4 candidates in the primary all got between 20 and 30%, so its not like he was some loser trailing behind the winner by double digits. It was a tight multi-candidate race. And the eventual winner had a pretty solid pedigree (former speaker of the Maine house of representatives) so its not like he lost to a nobody.

If the democrats lose the Maine senate election, I don't think we can blame them for 'picking a bad candidate'.

And the polling is scary because all the polls had Collins losing handily in 2020 and she won by 8.6 percentage points.

Yes, polling in the previous senate election was.... weird. One or 2 polls that were wrong might simply be an outlier. But polling was pretty consistent showing Collins losing.

Hopefully whatever factors that caused the previous election's numbers to be out of line has been corrected.

In the Ohio gubernatorial race Vivek has pulled out his October surprise - an ad featuring Amy Acton's own mother calling her a liar.

Trouble is, her mother is estranged, to say the least, from Amy Acton. It seems that her (now late) husband had been SA'ing Amy Acton for years. Amy Acton's mother claims this is a lie but the courts determined otherwise and removed Amy (and her brother) from their custody. Acton's own brother has attacked the GOP for making this ad calling it a new low and noting that their mother stayed with the abusive husband until his death.

The GOP cannot help but prop up pedophiles.

Vivek Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Amy Acton, who is running for Governor of Ohio, is a liar, and much worse.
The Press, in a concerted and well coordinated attack, is trying to get Vivek Ramaswamy to “take down the Ad.”
Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about a daughter in that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving in Office, let alone the Office of Governor.
If my mother, the legendary Mary MacLeod Trump, said anything bad about me, the Fake News would play it up. The Dumocrats would be totally supportive, and it would go down as the Ad of the Decade — Maybe the Century! It would win Awards for Excellence in Advertising.
But, because Vivek, who will be a GREAT Governor, put it out, the “Artificial” News has teamed up against him in order to damage, demean, and embarrass a Republican who is leading in the Polls.
Our RINO Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, who I unfortunately helped get elected years ago, when he was losing by 16 points prior to my doing a Rally for him was, as usual, disloyal to the Republican Party. He strongly suggested that Vivek should, “take down the Ad.” He probably wants a Dumocrat to win, and certainly doesn’t want someone who will do a much better job than he is capable of doing.
I suggested, on the other hand, that Vivek should keep it up, and let everyone listen to the mother of a defective, dishonest, and incapable Candidate, explain how the daughter is a DISASTER who, uncontrollably, lies, cheats, and steals!
I only wish the mothers of my opponents would be so brave as to come forward and explain that their son or daughter is a liar, and much worse.
That took a lot of courage to do but, essentially, what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice!
The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it’s so good! Who wouldn’t use such an Ad? I would, it’s called, “hitting pay dirt.”
The fact is, Lyin’ Amy Acton, who I’ve never even heard of before, has been lying about Vivek for the entire Campaign.
