Bigfoot DNA

Ketchum's facebook page, while seemingly showing great fan support, is disappointing from the perspective of a media consultant. Signing up 300 people for her "bigfoot protection" flailaganza is indicative of how many pieces of bigfoot merchandise of all types she might sell. If she had 10,000 friends, that would be impressive... but 300? Perhaps she can sell 2 items to each of, say, 500 people. Even if you triple that, and make your price point 39.95, how much can you make after expenses? 5 figures? that isn't much when you consider the risk she is taking with her lab business. Can she take it on the road like Meldrum and hawk her wares at lectures? probably not, because she doesn't have the academic standing, which both guarantees Meldrum an audience and pays his expenses. She might get a guest appearance or three on some cable shows, but again, maybe low 5 figures. The money is in a TV series, which she has no shot at, if her only schtick is showing a bunch of transparencies of electrophoretic patterns (Yawn).

If she realizes the cold hard facts, she will either continue to try to build her "bigfoot resume" to be a more attractive all-around expert, or ditch the whole thing and hope she hasn't damage her core business.

TheMelba's facebook fans are a never-ending source of hilarity:
Dane Rigo: I not going to mention what forum, but it gets worse every day, some of them are professionals, but they are like a 3 year old that didn't there toy in a timely manner. And the main reason is there egos, god forbid there proven wrong.
I would love to give a couple of them a 3 stooges moment that Moe would dish out.
I have no doubt that Dane could do a great "Moe."

What risk? Isn't her bread and butter genetic testing of AKC dog breeds or some such? How would those people even know about her bigfoot work? She's guaranteed to keep making money from alleged bigfoot samples sent to her, and she's probably got a broad network of contacts in the pet world who'll keep her in business no matter what happens.

There are certain times in life where I wish I was the editor of my own internet newspaper so I could do my own typesetting of punny headlines!!!

When this paper comes out in a rag and is debunked as nonsense , I hope some one out there has the cajones to make a Blog Headline that says :

MELBA, TOAST....

Yes I know, it's awful. But it makes me feel so good to say!

My mother has apparently registered.

She may view it as a net boon to her existing business in the form of advertising. You get notoriety, which some people will view negatively, but others may think "golly, this is the expert they hired to look at bigfoot DNA". Others may just remember hearing the name and knowing she does DNA work, because they don't know or care much about bigfoot.

If she did something with these samples that violated protocol in her field then that would be a strong negative though because customers are going to see her as the person that does bad DNA work instead of the go-to lab.

Here's an interesting question: will the paper even elicit a response from the scientific community ? Most scientists categorically deny the existence of Bigfoot, so would they just "ignore" the paper, and not comment ?

It's almost a rhetorical question. I believe if it is published in a widely read and respected Journal, the paper will almost certainly receive scrutiny. If it comes out in the Journal for Scientific Exploration, I believe the paper will be ignored.

Of course, this assumes the paper is published.

Meldrum's "ichnotaxon" paper? "Ignored" isn't even the right word for it, because ignore includes this connotation of knowing about something and choosing not to engage it. In this case, scientists don't even know about it.

you should run with this:
Three intrepid and enthusiastic bigfooters (list your favs), with goofy sidekick (a skeptic), travel the country investigating rumors of publication: McGraw Hill in New York, Harper Torchbooks in San Francisco, Journal of Genetics in China, Simon and Schuster, Wiley, etc etc. At town hall meetings along the way, they encounter unconfirmed stories of newsletters, pamphlets, flyers and mimeographed letters from teachers. Hilarity ensues as the Fab Four enlist thermal detection, night vision, and other high-tech devices (not to mention plain old-fashioned raw courage, yankee ingenuity and plenty of strategically placed Krispy Kreme donuts) to sniff out the whereabouts and whenabouts of The Paper That Will Shake the World. Features plenty of surprised expressions, consternation, confusion, double entendres, que pasas, bleeped-out expressions of disbelief, rib pokes, eye rolls, double takes, pratfalls, folk songs, bacon, trucker hats and droll humor. Occasional emotional flareups, conflicts, disagreements, discussions, alcohol- and drug-fueled rants, and ferocious food fights spice up the travel segments. One member of the team will repeatedly re-enact reported acts of publication, such as cranking a mimeo machine, putting flyers on windshields and doorknobs, and writing promising but evasive internet posts. All-night stakeouts of dumpsters, trash cans, and recycling bins may reveal the paper trail. Brief shots of partially-clad groupies should not prevent prime time showing. Product placements will be considered. Eight 42-minute episodes @ $200,000.

I could see atleast one episode dedicated to a visit to KY to investigate the so called "Double Punched Publication" .

I grant you that, but what attorney wants to put her on the stand?

She is already seriously tainted professionally. A very devestating cross exam of her on anything could be done. But on the other hand... how would that occur ? The Case... Plaintiff: "They told me this was a St. Bernard.. but it looks like a Poodle .... "

People risk some very important things all the time.. their lives, liberty, reputations for seemingly very little ? Some money or a little bit of attention.

BF would never do that btw..

Of the 300 who have signed up at TheMelba-related facebook site to "protect" the "bigfoot" and "its habitat", I wonder what percentage have ever done a thing to protect the environment. From what I can gather at the BFF, very few footers accept the overwhelming proof of climate change.

I never looked for such a correltation ? Interesting concept. I mean wouldnt you want BF to be okay and not be effected by the climate ? After all, it has been around so long and has carefully adapted to its surroundings etc...

*I would expect once BF realizes that us other human folk are messing with him and his climate.. well were toast ! Or.. um.. Jerky.. something.

Gosh... jeepers..

If you wanted to protect BigFoot wouldnt you want to protect the planet and their habitat ? Much like protecting the ozone layer so the aliens would know and have a constant for their entry calculations into our atmosphere.

edit: This is the first post I made without """" marks ! anyway.... What "paper" ??????????

Ooops !

if you hang around at the BFF for any period of time, you see the evidence that FauxNews is their main source of information.

AWWW SNAP!!!!

looks like some footer debunkers have some inside info on Ketchum's "paper"

They claim that they have evidence that "The Paper" was rejected out of hand for "not being scientific" and that the entire paper is based on a "statistical anomaly "

LULZ

This guy Java Bob was involved early on with Ketchum and Stubstad. I suspect that he and Stubstad have been the source of many of the leaks that have appeared at Robert Lindsay's site. So it's hard to know whether he is confirming earlier rumors that came from someone else or just repeating what he himself leaked elsewhere. I wonder why he is coming forward at this particular time. The particular new issue being raised is something about peer review. But since that term is so widely misunderstood/misused amongst the footers, it is hard to guess what he's trying to get at, and how he would know anything about what is going on at the moment with "ThePaper," since he was apparently banished from the "team" at the same time as Stubstad.

I could take a wild flyer and suggest that the paper is now in the hands of a third string journal, possibly offshore, whose "peer review" is something like wet tissue paper (Don't worry about brushing up on your Mandarin, the Chinese journals publish in English).

TheMelba is facing another deadline or two: The famous April Fool deadline, which I believe came up on Lindsay's site, and also a May 1 one, similarly conjured out of thin air by him. But more importantly, she is scheduled to give a presentation in Washington state, May 4-6 I believe. Will she cancel in advance this time? or at the last minute, as she did last year? or go and give a presentation on the general subject of DNA? If I were her I think I would go and meet the fans, while rounding up doling out all the usual suspects excuses. This is about marketing. I'm sure that her spin PR director will concur. Maybe she could fantasize talk about "protecting bigfoot."

The positioning amongst the various sects within the Bigfoot community around the now mythical Paper is interesting. There are still ardent supporters of the Ketchum Hokum, but it seems that there are more dissenters or at least Believers willing to openly criticize the existence of "thePaper" or the validity of the science. Someone is either dreaming up these criticisms or "thePaper" has been leaked to the "community". If it has been leaked, it won't be long before it shows up on a forum or blog.

IF, and this is if you believe Java Bob, the whole theory hinges on a statistical analysis that shows an DNA anomaly, then it will be very interesting when statisticians get a look at her analysis. Also interesting that she "ran off with all the DNA samples". As I noted in previous posts, it wouldn't surprise me if the DNA material was no longer available "we used it all" or is now considered "intellectual property". Either way, if Java Bob's accusations are true or he can provide supporting evidence, then I think the DNA study is DOA.

EDIT: I should add, the Facebook response from the Ketchum Hokum camp should be interesting.

I too think that 'the paper' has been leaked to some footers. I have thought for sometime that Melba Ketchum and, subsequently, Richard Stubstad had painted themselves into a dna corner and are simply trying to find a way out. The complete lack of chatter from Robert Lindsay is also interesting. He and Stubstad seemed to be joined at the hip for awhile but apparently have fallen out.
