Bigfoot DNA

Well, the Ketchum Hokum is kind of, sort of sure, it will be published sooner or later, but maybe sort of sooner, or well definitely not later. Come on! If you were actually involved with a real journal, the journal could give you a better time frame than a Monty Python logic argument. How do you know she's a witch?

The infamous Ed Smith weighs in:

Ed SmithMar 19, 2012 06:52 PM

This paper is going to be challenged left right front to center, if its ever released, ultimately it will be come irrelevant, even after its rejected for multiple times.

DNA will not prove this species in and of itself, GET IT, please dispense with this fantasy.

With no Keystone or Type Specimen, the paper holds no weight due to the FACT a male and a female specimen of the species had not been typed nor cataloged for comparison to any known or documented or animal in the world index.

Until this happens you can test as much as you want, set around waiting on papers that may or may NOT ever appear. The fact reminds, No specimen = No proof that is point blank and period, anyone with half an understanding the scientific method knows this or should.

This charade of Melba's has gone on long enough WAKE UP and see it for what it is, a travesty.

Apparently their "steak" must not qualify as a piece of bigfoot. :D

Speaking of "the steak", Robert Lindsay has gone silent on most things bigfoot. I wonder if he has finally figured this whole thing out.

Someone posted on the BFF a quote from the Melba re: this is how the publication process works. She claims to have reviewed a paper 3 times before it was accepted so she understands how the process can take a long time. Can't rush that good science y'all.

I believe she explained she's just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Oh, wait....
my computer does that automatically. OMG, she's writing the paper by hand!! Well, no wonder it's taking so long. Sheesh...who knew?

If I were to guess what is going on, I would say it is this:

Scientist submits paper which says we got a bunch of human DNA from bigfoots.
Journal #1 says: it's from us humans unless you can prove otherwise
Scientist says: people told me it came from bigfoot.
Journal #1 says: yeah right.

Journal #2 Hello. How do we know this came from bigfoot?
_____________________________[this is The Line, which Scientist now crosses, into KnowerKnowerLand]

KnowerScientist says: ummmm, er, I have seen them myself. yeah, that's it, I myself have seen a bigfoot.
Journal #2 says: really?
KS: Yes, that's it, I have seen one, yeah, that's it, I saw one.
Journal #2: ah, I'm sure you did, but one sighting could be a mistake or a hallucination, and anyway that doesn't affect the validity of the data you have here.

Journal #3: hello. I'm sure you are a good and honest person but we just don't know about these other people who say it came from bigfoot.
KS: I have seen them many times myself in a secret location in Oklahoma, and we got samples from them.
Journal #3 says: REALLY?! would you sign an affidavit?
KS: well, ah, YES, yeah, that's it, yes, I'll sign.
Journal #3 says: okay, but that really isn't PROOF they aren't regular everyday modern humans.
KS: well okay, then.......ah...........okay, I have one or two clear pictures.
Journal #3 says: REALLY?! could we see them?
KS: well, ah, you see, well, ah,... NDA!! yeah, that's it, I am bound by an NDA not to show them.

Journal #4 says: hello, what is this?
KS: this is a clear picture of the bigfoot, from the back, from which we got the samples.
Journal #4: doesn't this belong to Melissa Hovey?

Journal #5: hello, what does this have to do with our wildlife conservation theme?
KS: well, these animals need protection and we are starting a grass roots campaign to do so, see we already have 255 members, and they will all subscribe to your journal if you print this.
Journal #5: you're joking, right?

I think it would be more like this.

Paper:
We have found DNA from several sources, these DNA results of these sources have never been included in any Genome project conducted in the worlds human populations. The DNA is clearly human, however the MtDNA shows this human gene to be a split off from modern humans approximately 50000 years ago. We have found this result to be indicative of a sub species of humans, referred to, in folklore as Sasquatch.

Journal: Thank you for your submission, we are unable to publish your paper, please include the type-specimen next time.

This photo may have been leaked, I am not sure.

OK, which Journal employed the Ketchum Hokum as a peer reviewer ?

I actually think the scenario is that the shopping of the paper continues. It has likely not made it past the initial editoral review into the peer process a number of times, so they continue to work their way down the list of reputable journals into the fringe. It's when the fringe journals start passing that real panic will set in. Then you will see more desperate moves, beyond what we have seen to date.

By the way, what ever happened to her publicist. She has seemed to have gone quiet.

From her Facebook page:

the journal is not permitting us to say where it is in the process, which is a standard practice.

They have an interwoven rats nest of lies.

That was written by Sally. Politicians lie this way. They have a subordinate deliver the lie instead of themselves. The politician distances himself from the lie, and later blames it on a misunderstanding or whatever when it proves to be untrue.

Notice how there are numerous reasons they have to conceal their "work". Remember the nondisclosure agreement? They never said who was requiring the NDA. If I recall correctly the NDA was "necessary" because some of the participants were non-published researchers that didn't understand the secrecy provisions of journals. So what? Some mysterious cosmic entity intervened and imposed this NDA? No, it is Paulides or Ketchum, pretending it has been imposed upon them by outside forces. So that tells us if an agreement exists it is the smoking gun of conspiracy between the signators.

Let's just see that nondisclosure agreement. Oh, of course - the NDA disallows publishing the NDA, but allows you to say one exists. ;)

This is such a wonderful science laboratory for studying hoaxes. Parnasus hypothesized early on in the thread that Paulides was the hoaxer and Ketchum a dupe, and it may even have begun that way - but Ketchum has been carrying too much water with multiple lies to be a dupe at this point. So the history would be interesting. How did Ketchum and Paulides meet? Did Paulides scout her out as a potential hoax participant, and find her receptive to it? Or did she seek him out as a source of phony samples?

If I recall, Paulides was shopping around for someone to do some DNA testing, and had supposedly interviewed "literally hundreds" of experts in the field before finding someone as immensely qualified as the Ketchum Hokum. I can imagine if you read between the lines, the interviews with the potential experts was along the lines of "I am calling to see if you are interested in testing potential Sasquatch DNA ?". I am sure the reason many were disqualified was because the answer was somewhere from "Are you kidding ?" to "Not in a million years." Eventually, Paulides found his stooge.

yes, the shopping continues. I don't see how you get more desperate than forming a protection group...maybe threatening to eat Toby will be her next ploy.

The publicist is still enjoying the limelight, and the signal to noise ratio is still low.

For me, the desperation will become obvious when the blame game starts. It will be the tried-and-true "the closed minded scientists refuse to accept the evidence that is plain as day that Squatch exists". "The process is riddled with cronyism, and mainstream science will not accept the truth from an outsider." Yadda, yadda, yadda.

This is a very reasonable scenario that Paulides shopped for a squatch-friendly lab coat, and that's Ketchum. But I am leaning towards willing conspirator of convenience rather than dupe, right from the beginning.

Assume there is a nondisclosure agreement. Who signed it? Ketchum and Paulides. Duh. Maybe the people that provided the samples, to keep their mouths shut because of how stupid the stories are about their provenance. But this NDA is the smoking gun, regardless of whether it actually exists. If it does not, then they're bold faced liars. If it does, then the reason for having one is a lie on the face of it. They are trying to insinuate an outside force required it of them, which is ludicrous. Who required the NDA? Themselves! So it is an evasion of why they are concealing their "work".

They'll turn on each other in the end.

How much you want to bet the DNA samples are now considered intellectual property in their mind, and will not be available for further testing by other scientists without a hefty price-tag attached. It's always about the money.

Hmmm, well, if they want to have it accepted they will have to allow it.

True the avg footer isn't very science savvy, but enough of them are and enough of them have a vested interest in discrediting Ketchum (cough cough MM...cough). That if they try and pull the intellectual property thing, she will get run out of footery on a rail.

There are a lot of people waiting for this to be the rosetta stone, the holy grail and the watergate tapes all rolled into one. If it doesn't pan out as promised, the community is going to be seriously pissed.

ABP, the NDA is a farce. We are not dealing with state secrets here or research that could lead to the development of a dirty bomb. It's a DNA study. Heck, the militarization of H5N1 was openly discussed at conferences. That scares me a whole heck of a lot more than some cryptid humanoid.

I would agree that the NDA is a key indicator that this is about money and not science. There is something they plan to sell that they don't want people discussing ahead of the release of the paper. It's a book/dvd/web membership, or something they plan to peddle to the believers if the paper is published. The NDA because people involved aren't typically involved in scientific publishing is bull. I thought the Ketchum Hokum had a whole team of top flight researchers working on this project ? Billy Bob who sent in the earlobe doesn't care when the paper comes out, and he surely doesn't understand DNA, so who cares if he talks. He sent the Ketchum Hokum an earlobe; he just wants to know if it was from Squatch.

how can it not turn out?
you have the typical 'I'm an expert on this kind of evidence" type (Meldrum, Munns, Bindernagel, Mioczynski, Krantz, TheMelba) continuing to say it's true, and 80% will hang in there. That is what cults do. Meanwhile the bleevers continue recruiting kids and obese white males who feel alienated from society. Bigfootery is even more resistant to being killed than is bigfoot itself.

... and the next expert to come along, will be, say, an expert on animal poop and he's got some "real" bigfoot poop, and off they go again...
