Merged Smoking should be banned universally

oh we can add illegal abuse of extinct animals..... PETA will rip you apart.

PETA is puny, weak and euthanizes the animals the save. At least dinsosaurs went the way of evolution.

YES, EVOLUTION, PROVE ME WRONG!!!!!!

For that matter, TM, I can't figure out why the dentist tells us to brush our teeth. It's like he want us to put him out of business or something!

Have you really considered all the benefits individuals get from smoking? It makes them less nervous, more pleasant to be around (as long as they aren't smoking at that particular moment), and helps keep them thinner which reduces the costs of obesity. It also looks cool, and makes them cooler, and therefore improves the tone of the surroundings. And they carry lighters or matches, so in case of emergency power failures they are able to quickly produce light.

Life is for enjoying, and people should be able to enjoy whatever they wish as long as it isn't harming anyone else. "Economic costs" isn't really a harm to you--unless you are in perfect health yourself, you are costing them money as well. You can't possibly calculate all the numbers and variables that would be involved in proving that smoking causes economic harm to the general public. In fact, in many areas (such as my own employment) it's decidedly beneficial.

Utter nonsense from the first word to the last.

Dentists take the long view. They'd rather have lots of patients coming in a couple times a year for an entire lifetime than see them many times in early years, then not at all after a certain point. It's the maintenance model of business versus the come-in-when-you-have-a-problem model.

Utter nonsense from the first word to the last.

You're the one claiming costs that you're unable to enumerate, and you say I'm speaking nonsense? What exactly is this cost in, invisible money that doesn't have numbers on the bills?

This is exactly what we need right now, an expansion and escalation on the War on Drugs! We need to double the size of the ATF, add more courts, have wealthier and more violent Mexican cartels and more illegal cross boarder traffic. Perhaps I could grow my own tobacco under grow lights in my basement, a great use of electricity, and then sell my wares at the street corner, no ID or taxes required. It would be a great windfall for me up until I get beaten or worse by a rival drug dealer competing for territory. We should also make obesity illegal because the criminal justice system is the best tool we have to promote a sound public health policy.

It is a form of assault through poisons inflicted on your fellow man. It kills others slowly, but still kills them, ad kills the smoker itself. Assualt and suicide are already illegal so the precedent is already there.

It's not enough to publicly ban it, it should be probable cause for the law to enter your house take the cancer sticks from you. You know I'm right.

Sticking your nose into other people's business should be universally banned.

JREF is one of the most pathetically easy to troll forums around. If you only get a few bites you've failed harder than Rusty Venture on a particularly bad day.

I know, but tv is awful nowadays and this passes the time.

What about entering every house in the States and taking all the guns away? That would save more lives than confiscating cigarettes.

I agree.

"Out beyond the ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing" sang Rumi, "There is a field. I'll meet you there, and I shall tell you my notions of wrong-doing and right-doing to the beat of a thick stick which I will be applying liberally to your head and shoulders and you will obey!"

So, (and I am not a smoker and do not like cigarette smoke at all), then I assume you wish to immediately close down all coal-fired generators, etc. as the smoke and other products from same - as well as the operations involved in the obtaining of the coal and processing/storage of same - kill more provably and evidently people in greater number (and cause illness and debility in many more who are not killed). Just checking how far you wish to go with this......:)
