Ma'ale Adumim is for the same purpose. To solidify Israel control over East Jerusalem.

And to make a Palestinian foothold in the city all but impossible.

So we must keep neighborhoods segregated to avoid apartheid? :boggled:

err....building apartment complexes and neighborhoods that are for Jews only, is a hell of a way to fight segregation, Wildcat.

;)

You said you were against Jews living in predominantly Arab neighborhoods.

And don't you think it's outrageous that Australia builds housing exclusively for Aboriginals? Why aren't you rushing off to start a thread abouit this outrage, modern-day "apartheid in new shoes"?

You said you were against Jews living in predominantly Arab neighborhoods.

I said NO such thing. Don't put words in my mouth.

I am against Jew-only apartment buildings and housing complexes being built in traditionally Arab areas of East Jerusalem. The whole goal of such settlements is to solidify Israel's hold on all of East Jerusalem and to make a Palestinian foothold in the area impossible.

Anyone who doubts this, is utterly ignorant of the political situation in the region or a liar.

As for individual Jews and Jewish families moving into apartment buildings and areas housing mostly Arabs, I have no problem with that. But that is NOT what we are talking about here, now is it? ;)

Right. Everybody who doesn't see the world on exactly the terms you want them to is a mean nasty poopy-head. :oldroll:

are you saying you disagree with this statement?

Saying I disagree with it would be an under-statement. Beginning with the use of the word settlement, and then going on from there.

I have been to Te Maika, which is owned by the Maori king, and he has allowed a non-Maori to own land there.

Ironically, he is Jewish.

:)

Is he really? I looked it up on Wikipedia and couldn't find any mention of it. There must be a fascinating story behind that, do you know what it is?

Australia builds homes for which only Aborigines need apply.

Australia is practicing "Apartheid in new shoes", correct?
no..Subsidised housing is built in certain areas to address social disadvantage issues for the local population, which in many cases are aboriginal. A lot of other stuff is targeted towards disadvantaged groups and depressed areas.

are you suggesting that this matches the Jews only housing issue? Are jews disadvantaged in Israel and need housing assistance?

People who support discrimination, such as yourself, often harp on about assistance to disadvantaged groups...Damned if I know how many times the distinction gets pointed out to them.... Damn those soup kitchens discriminating against the wealthy eh?

No....Israel just needs to stop obsessing about what category its citizens are...Jew or non jew. Simply remove thier practice of compulsory classification.

of course you can't agree with this, categorising of citizens being so close to your heart.

When will Australia stop categorizing citizens as Aborigine/non-Aborigine?

Sounds like apartheid in new shoes.

So apartheid housing is only acceptable when its for poor people and subsidized by the government.

Australian citizens may apply for assistance under Various aboriginal assistance programmes. If they wish..... They may or may not be eligable depending on the eligability criterea.

you can't differentiate between this and compulsory categorisation? I think you can as this australian aboriginal line is a favorite of the apologists for discrimination on this forum and it has been explaned to you, and the rest of the apologists, many times.

wait a couple of weeks and you can bring it up again.

did you read my explanation, was it to complex? Australia housing programmes is assistance targeted at specifically identified disadvantaged groups. Is that comparable to Jew only housing in Israel? Are Jews a disadvantaged group needing assistance?

What's that got to do with a private individual who wants to build an apartment building for a religious community?

Are Jews a disadvantaged group needing assistance?

If they were, would that make a difference to you?

Was it to complex what?

Absolutely not. Which is why it's odd that you'd compare Australia's publicly funded "apartheid" housing projects for the poor to a privately funded religious based housing project in Israel.

why does he have to build it in East Jerusalem?

why can't he build it in West Jerusalem...where it won't be controversial?

Saying I disagree with it would be an under-statement. Beginning with the use of the word settlement, and then going on from there.

so the goal of Jewish housing projects is not to make East Jerusalem more Jewish and to solidify Israel's hold on the area?

that's pretty funny, did you hear that on Conan or Letterman?

:p

They seem to be doing a poor job of it then. The Arab population in Jerusalem has grown faster thann the Jewish population, Arab building is outpacing Jewish building and the city is issuing nearly 200 building permits to Arabs every year, a similar percentage to Jewish permits in Jewish areas (slightly higher according to one source I read a few weeks back) and have authorized the issuance of in excess of 33,000 permits for new housing units in the Arab sector. Further more, the application forms are udentical, except for the language, Arabs can get ones written in arabic if they desire them.

*Sourced from studies done by Justus Reid Weiner of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and Israel Kimhi, former Municipal City Planner for Jerusalem.

According to another study on the matter: "based on the limited number of application for building permits in the recent years, the Arab residents of the City have not taken full advantage of the potential that exists."
