I can see it now. Out on the oil rig, a concerned, and surprisingly handsome oil rig worker furrows his brow. He has been asked to do some "routine maintenance" on the blowout preventer, but the instructions don't match the print. A foreman type comes over and says, "I don't care what you think. Mr. Schmuck says do it!" Off in the control area of the rig, a grey haired man in an expensive suit nods. The worker starts to do the job, but after a sleepless night refuses. The man in the suit is seen pointing and waving, and getting into his helicopter. The foreman informs Mr. Handsome. "You're fired. There's a boat leaving the rig. Get on it." As the boat pulls away, suddenly a fireball erupts. He looks on in horror.
On shore, he sees the television reports. Mr. Schmuck, in an even more expensive suit, is holding a press conference, describing the tragic events that occurred when a flatulent Sperm Whale came too near the rig, and set off an explosion, despite the fact that all safety precautions had been followed and no one issued any orders to tamper with any safety equipment to release more oil and increase profits. Something doesn't seem right to the hero, as he sits in a New Orleans bar drinking, a 26 year old female engineer with extremely clear skin and slightly wavy hair, who happens to be an expert in blowout preventers, is looking concerned. Global warming was reducing the supply of high fiber plankton in the Sperm Whale diet. Something about the Big Petroleum executive's story doesn't sound right. Even so, the blowout preventer should have been more than enough to prevent a calamity. When she says that aloud, the male lead tells her his story.
Over breakfast the next morning, they learn about "a small oil leak" from the well. Her fears are realized. This is a major ecological disaster, and Big Petroleum is covering it up. They have leaflets printed and show up at the Congressman's office, but he doesn't want to talk to them. However, out of their sight, but in view of the camera, the Congressman listens to a voice mail. “Bob, this is Dick Schmuck. This oil spill thing could really cause us a problem, and we might have to try some really radical stuff to make sure that we end this situation without causing panic, because we know that would happen if the press got hold of this. Can we count on your support at the Congressional hearing? Of course, we know that America needs far sighted Congressmen who understand that sometimes too much knowledge can be dangerous. If you could help us out, I’m sure we would recognize your contributions to American life in November, in a non quid pro quo sort of way.”
At the Congressional hearing, some Congressmen want an immediate investigation, but Mr. Schmuck says now isn’t the time for fingerpointing, and he presents his radical plan. A nuclear bomb will be used to seal off the leak. Congressman Left asks, “Won’t that obliterate all evidence of the cause of the leak?” Mr. Schmuck says, “Regrettably, yes, but we can’t be worried about that right now. We just want what’s in the best interests of the Puffins.” Some Congressman points out that there are no Puffins in the Gulf of Mexico, and Schmuck replies, “And there never will be unless we do something right now! Now are you going to let us fix this problem, or are we going to talk about stupid waterfowl all day!”
The blonde engineer is very worried. She doesn’t think this plan will work, and thinks it is part of a coverup. As they watch on TV, the unthinkable happens. A Ron Howard wannabe director shows a closeup of the beginnings of the chain reaction inside the bomb, and a cutaway of the drill hole. When the bomb explodes, the holeh expands to the size of Connecticut, and starts spewing oil with tremendous force, forming a gusher that is visible above the sea all the way from shore. As thick, black, goo covers the sea floor all around the world, the oil rig worker realizes there is only one way to save the world! At the renewable energy center, there are windmills for energy generation. He can rig a pump that can pump the oil into holding ponds, where it can be burned. Normally, the windmills wouldn’t be strong enough, but there is a category VI hurricane coming through. As wind and rain threaten to pull him from the top of the very tall tower, the oil rig worker rigs the pumps, despite winds so strong that his t-shirt is destroyed, completely exposing his pectoral muscles. The engineer worries that global warming will ensue, but the oil rig worker notes that there are also biodiesel producing algae in the ponds next door, who will consume the carbon dioxide and provide abundant, safe, renewable energy.
The oil rig worker and engineer are married, and the movie closes with federal investigators serving a search warrant for maintenance records to Mr. Schmuck.
