Amanda Knox guilty - all because of a cartwheel

I'm midly curious about one thing: Why do people trust Amanda Knox's accusation about getting hit and/or being led into a false account about what happened on the night of the murder? What has she done to deserve that trust? There seems to be a lack of corroborating evidence and testimony, so why do some of you trust her over the law enforcement and judiciary system?

From Barbie Nadeau (no friend to Amanda Knox):

Do you believe Knox’s assertion that she was abused during her final interrogation?
BARBIE LATZA NADEAU:
I think it depends how you define “abused.” If you mean to ask if she was flicked on the back of the head (which is a cultural norm here in schools and in criminal investigations), then yes, that very likely happened. If you mean to ask if she was abused in the way the American police have been caught on CCTV abusing detainees, then no, I do not think she was abused.

Are there any Italians that can verify it's normal to "flick" witnesses in the back of the head?

Others have reported being mistreated by this same prosecution team.

Novelist Douglas Preston and Italian journalist Mario Spezi who were interrogated by Mignini regarding the Monster of Florence case. Francesca Bene who works for the local Perugia newspaper reported being hit by the same policewoman that Amanda claims hit her. Patrick Lumumba also reported being hit during his interrogation.

There is also the curious question of why the interrogations were not recorded. Without a camera or at least a microphone in the room, allegations of abuse are almost impossible to prove. It comes down to a suspects word against the police. In the Knox case, the police recorded all of the suspects phone calls, starting before Amanda and Raffaele were arrested. After they were arrested, the police bugged their jail cells. Conversations with and between family, friends and even their lawyers were recorded. Yet for some reason the interrogation sessions were not recorded?

And can you fund any reputable expert ir study to suggest that flick to the back of the head results in 'false memories' and accusations of innocent people? And was anyone 'flicking' her head when she later demanded to make a voluntary statement to the prosecutor where she reinforced her earlier accusations with and even more detailed one? And was she being flicked in the head when she demanded pen and paper the next day and wrote her two page note?

I'm sorry, please explain how how Preston or Spezi were 'mistreated'. Why are you talking complete rubbish?

You've been told a hundred times why not and you know fully well why not. We are all tired of telling you.

Francesca Bene denies she ever said this to Preston. The only source the Bene ever claimed to be mistreated is, surprise surprise, Douglas Preston.

Sounds like she was flicked in the back of the head.

This was all discussed around post # 2271 and thereafter, for anyone who has forgotten and can be bothered

The sources for the statements of Bene and Lumumba about being hit would be very helpful if you can provide them. I'd like to take a look at them. As for Lumumba I seem to recall that he allegedly said he never said that? If so a link to that would also be great.
As for the lack of records of the first interrogation: If I understand it correctly the legal status of Amanda changed during that interview? And that it is not standard procedure to tape interviews with persons of interest while it is for suspects? If that is true that would make the lack of a record not unusual but rather the norm.

Except they were recording everything else.

That's right, he did...on Italian television, numerous times.

See the earlier discussion, Moss. I could not provide links for Lumumba because the link to the newspaper is dead: but I have no reason not to believe the source: I did not address Bene because it was not raised, so far a I remember: but I am not going to do any more work because it does not matter what you do. Nothing is ever accepted nor is it refuted: it just waits a couple of thousand posts and then comes back in exactly the same form. There is no point to this at all

Except they were recording everything else.

So?

They didn't record the witness interviews, just as the police in your own country don't.

And it's all moot anyway because even if they had been recorded, those recording under Italian LAW cannot be heard in court anyway. But then this too you've all been told numerous times.

This is the article where Patrick was interviewed by the Daily Mail, where he recanted that part about him being hit. Specifically this:
""They were wearing normal clothes and carrying guns," he says. "I thought it must be some sort of armed gang about to kill me. I was terrified.
"They hit me over the head and yelled 'dirty black'. Then they put handcuffs on me and shoved me out of the door, as Aleksandra pulled Davide away, screaming."
He was greeted outside by a convoy of seven police cars, sirens blazing, and driven to Perugia's police station, where he was subjected to a ten-hour interrogation.
"I was questioned by five men and women, some of whom punched and kicked me," he claims. "They forced me on my knees against the wall and said I should be in America where I would be given the electric chair for my crime. All they kept saying was, 'You did it, you did it.'
"I didn't know what I'd 'done'. I was scared and humiliated. Then, after a couple of hours one of them suggested they show me a picture of 'the dead girl' to get me to confess.

He did recant it, but you have to wonder if he didn't actually tell the reporter this. It is pretty damn specific. If you believe he didn't say it, maybe someone can explain how this got so amazingly lost in translation.

substrate controls can help

I just wonder which one is the "control knife". Remember that trope? Would they pick one of the butter knives? A spoon? Maybe a saucepan?

Stilicho,

Collecting another utensil is a kind of substrate control.

“There are some relatively simple steps that crime scene investigators can take in order to minimize the possible occurrence of contamination of biological evidence:
1. Always wear disposable latex gloves when collecting biological evidence;
2. Always collect a substrate control for possible subsequent laboratory examination;
3. Pick up small items of evidence such as cigarette butts and stamps with clean forceps. Disposable forceps are to be used so that they can be discarded after a single evidence collection; and
4. Always package each item of evidence in its own well-ventilated container.”

In a fair system the lawyers for Amanda and Raffaele should have the right to review the recordings to see if they would challenge their admissibility. If they don't even have a right to listen to them, that is a serious problem.
