Lycanthropy and self-delusional beliefs on steroids.

It could be strange people, or at least lonely people. Either they feel they don't fit in (a genuine few, imo) or they don't want to (most, imo) and want to feel special and different and show they world that they aren't like "the rest of you." Especially those you see on TV pierced half to death and trying to look scary.

Others, who are so obsessed that they do body implants, tongue splitting, etc, I think really want or need to become something else. But where the heck do they get the money? This type of "morphing" surgery isn't cheap.

I know a guy(was my best friend) who split his own tongue, it only cost him the price of the razor blade and medical supplies. He did it properly too, it looks correct and there were no complications.

I know some strange folks.

I suppose I am a fairly strange person myself.

ETA: I believe most modern furry fandom originates from Starfox! CURSE YOU SNES!

Actually, the biggest influence I've heard about has been the Disney movie Robin Hood, though as a greymuzzle I'm out of touch with the younger crowd.

Yeah, I'm a fur. (I think the user name is a bit of a giveaway.) Furries are people, and you'll find nut cases in our group as you would any other. I don't see us as producing more nutcases than you'd find elsewhere. I've only ever met one person who genually believed he was an animal trapped in a human body, so I think the 6% figure is way off. You'll find people who have a strong connection with their totem animal, but genuine species diphoria(?)/dimorphism(?) (there's a correct word there somewhere), it's damn few from my experience.

For the most part, furries are just like anyone else, but with an interest in anthropomorphism, whether for the art, the fantasy of being/interacting with humanoid animals, or yes, for the porn (which is much less of an interest in bestiality than simply fitting in with seeing your fursona species in that type of setting). By nature, we're a more tolerant group, and as such I think we attract a larger group of people looking for acceptance in their lives and so we seem to have a much higher percentage of gay/lesbian/bi/etc in our ranks, especially with younger folks who are looking to fit in at some level.

Are you afraid of the planet Jupiter? (Joke, in another thread)

You're right, tongue splitting is cheap, but how about that Lizard Man who has been on TV and he's modifying his entire body? That has to cost...I don't know. But like the old saying, "a king's ransom," I think.

BTW...we are all strange here...look out newbies!

Oh. My. Goodness. I almost can't believe that. That would make a good book. Or interview. I've never seen one myself. Too creepy. Especially ones who wear costumes with really super over-sized heads. (SHUDDER)

As a writer you better believe i have a script on deck with him as inspiration. Though any characters appearing in said film, having any resemblance to persons living or dead, is purely coincidental.

( have to cover my ass, lol.)

In all fairness i am perfectly ready to accept i stepped in a pile of crap ( metaphorically) , i mean while i can say personally i have only encountered lunatics, i am sure if the crap i endured was common, it would be newsworthy, to say the least. And i am honestly not kidding.

That being said, i can no longer look at a squirrell without a shudder of fear.

Do furries not use the word "furry" as a noun for themselves?

My bet would be that you're thinking of body dysmorphic disorder, which can be shortened to dysmorphia. It's an excess of concern or anxiety about a real, exaggerated, or imagined bodily defect. But it's always about the worry that the defect would cause a lack of social acceptance because it makes them look abnormal, so it wouldn't cause a desire to make oneself even less normal and create new social-acceptance challenges for themselves. So I think you go that disorder's name mentally attached to another disorder's symptoms (such as body integrity identity disorder, the belief that part of the body isn't truly yours and doesn't belong there or shouldn't be the way it is).

For the most part, furries are just like anyone else, but with an interest in anthropomorphism
I don't think "interest in..." covers it. I have an interest in aircraft but would never have thought of the idea of dressing up in costume as one except for just this analogy, or looking at pictures of them in certain poses or flight patterns and treating those pictures as porn.

Either 'fur' or 'furry' is acceptable.

Yeah, it's that last one I was thinking of. I thought a body integrity identity disorder was called dysmorphia.

I don't think "interest in..." covers it. I have an interest in aircraft but would never have thought of the idea of dressing up in costume as one except for just this analogy, or looking at pictures of them in certain poses or flight patterns and treating those pictures as porn.

Fair enough, but it's not an abnormal interest. The fact that we're talking about biological critters versus airplanes opens the door for a more mental connection and the formation of an identity.

You only need to fear those Russian squirrels. I seem to recall a news story of them taking down a dog in a park. :eye-poppi

Check out the people who tattoo their actual eyeballs and change them permanently to a bright blue color :)

Dude, I've figured out that you write for Southpark :)

Holy shart. I bite my tongue on accident and I whimper for an hour :)

I wish, my biggest claim to fame at the moment other than stage plays is that one of my scripts was stolen and used( and from what i hear turned into a crappy rip off of Seven), lol. hopefully that will change though.

Yeah, i am more worried about the nearly seven foot three hundred pound plus one that attempted to suffocate me to ( and i still do not understand this bit) engage in an inflation fantasy. lol.

And the story gets better the more you tell it :)

On that note ... I lived in Dallas growing up and would often take dates to this trendy jazz club downtown called Sambucca's. Yes I was 16 but I looked 25. So anyways the front door bouncer there on the weekends was the guy who played stand-in and stunt double as Predator in the movies. This guy was HUGE .. I'm talking 8feet plus. He would shake your hand and it would engulf half your arm. IIRC his name was Calvin something or other. His gf was a hair over 5 foot tall. My best friend at the time was 6 foot 7 and would go on to play for the Minn Vikings for a few years ... and he looked like a smurf standing next to Calvin.

But no furry tails :) However, I will admit, that the few times I've gone to the Scarborough Faire or some other large renaissance festival and those girls walk around with real fox tails hanging off their backside ... it is eye-catching ;)

Seriously .... I'm thinking some furrys, some serial killing, and some horror ... done correctly and you've got yourself a new cult classic LOL ;)

I'm seeing Harvey meets Dexter meets Law and Order SVU LOL :p

And Seven was the only movie I actually jumped out of my seat somewhat at LOL.

Yeah, see i am an entirely open guy, if it doesn't involve blood, much pain, puke, crap, urine, or anything like that i am in. So strangely enough i didn't think the sex stuff was weird, just all his.....nuances ( specifically he used to refer to them as kinks.).

And as far as that goes, the female, well while a 7 foot tall gentleman cannot pull off a cute look, she did it pretty well. ( but then again she got fired for leaving her job to ' show up' randomly where i was. I wouldn't quite say stalking, but about as close as you can get. )

As well as the standard animal otherkin there are also plant otherkin and mythical creature (elves dragons etc) otherkin. Then there are the Otakukin who think they are anime characters. That is to say they think they are one of the characters in one of the popular works of anime.

Well that is actually pretty much how it is shaping up, i am about 50 something pages in and as far as a plot outline....

Furry guy ( bradley.) is creepy as **** , but generally a very nice guy. Works in a thrift store fixing very old computers, which he has quite the knack for. Most people dislike the man, with the exception of the one charecter, a drug dealer who hangs out at the thrift store. This guy is pretty much brad's only friend. But he also has a fairly dark past, which is revealed more and more as the movie progresses.

Bradley finds out about the charecters past, and is enthralled, thinking he has found a friend, someone that he can share a lot of his creepiest thoughts ( which tend toward mutiliation, death and other serial killer esque things.), he finds out that Pat ( the charecter)'s past is something he regrets, and pat himself severs ties with brad. This leads to brad meeting an online friend called " stranger" through his brad's website, which is a torture porn themed. Stranger acts as a more evil influence on brad , and from there the plot gets into high gear.

I have high hopes, if my script i didn't really like was good enough to be stolen, this one should have some success.

Oh dear I suddenly want to explore this phenomena to it's extreme limits and write a book.

I am trying to formulate a joke using the word "stalk" in the context of farm products but I'm not having any success. :)

Furry guy needs to:
* pee in his costume and have it smell something fierce (i.e. serial killer bed wetting)
* carry mutilated body parts around in his costume and/or create parts of it from people's body parts by the end of the movie
* His mother, of course, HATES animals

I'm seeing James Earl Jones as Brad
Jon Gosselin as Pat
Hugh Jackman as Brad's boss
Gordon Ramsey, Snookie, and Barbara Streisand as strong influences from Pat's past
and Stranger is played by none other than Mickey Rourke or Daniel Radcliffe.

:)

Oh and the Jonas Brothers need to die horribly in it.

I didn't cast the movie in my mind, but instead of James Earl Jones (getting too old, by the way, tho his voice is as gorgeous as ever) I picture Samuel L. Jackson as Brad.

Jonas Brothers AND Miley Cyrus, please, die horribly in it!
