Lycanthropy and self-delusional beliefs on steroids.

Oh dear I suddenly want to explore this phenomena to it's extreme limits and write a book.

There already is one, but it's small press so you'd have to pay a bundle for idle curiosity.

(pardon the long link; I post once a year so never bothered to figure out how to format them properly.)

I'm otherkin, but I don't know enough of them to have any good stories. It's no nuttier than most religions or "spiritual paths" or similar. Doesn't matter what you are inside; your body still needs food and clothes, thus job, thus life's just as boring as most other lives.

Nice ... Barnes and Nobles here I come ;)

So what type of otherkin are you? Is that the correct way to ask the question? Will you go into detail? I'm totally fascinated ...

I'm a burrowing canid originating from an elevated plateau south of Madrid, and I'll skewer anyone who says otherwise!

Holy shart. I bite my tongue on accident and I whimper for an hour :)

Are you sure YOU bit your tongue? :p

P.S. TrentWray, my avatar is actually me. Yup, that's me. Too cute for words, eh? :)

I am trying to formulate a joke using the word "stalk" in the context of farm products but I'm not having any success. :)

Furry guy needs to:
* pee in his costume and have it smell something fierce (i.e. serial killer bed wetting)
* carry mutilated body parts around in his costume and/or create parts of it from people's body parts by the end of the movie
* His mother, of course, HATES animals

I'm seeing James Earl Jones as Brad
Jon Gosselin as Pat
Hugh Jackman as Brad's boss
Gordon Ramsey, Snookie, and Barbara Streisand as strong influences from Pat's past
and Stranger is played by none other than Mickey Rourke or Daniel Radcliffe.

:)

Oh and the Jonas Brothers need to die horribly in it.

Brad himself i am actually playing as more a victim of circumstance, but yes we do get to see him go from " a bit nutty" to full out evil. And by the end of the film, well envision a 7 foot man in a filthy squirrell costume that barely fits, with bits of steel hanging from it.

On a personal note, i hope people don't see it as an attack on furries in general. Simply a new niche for a serial killer to fill.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otherkin

As well as the standard animal otherkin there are also plant otherkin and mythical creature (elves dragons etc) otherkin. Then there are the Otakukin who think they are anime characters. That is to say they think they are one of the characters in one of the popular works of anime.
You beat me to it. I actually know at least one Otherkin. She goes on about wolves forever if you let her. Think extreme version of Asperger Syndrome (which she is), then put furry obsession on top of it.

Scary thing is, I found myself almost uncontrollably attracted to her.

I didn't cast the movie in my mind, but instead of James Earl Jones (getting too old, by the way, tho his voice is as gorgeous as ever) I picture Samuel L. Jackson as Brad.

Jonas Brothers AND Miley Cyrus, please, die horribly in it!

If i could sell it direct to a major company i would definately toss an annoying celebrity in for the role of the two nerdy yet somewhat endearing members of the thrift store.

But i may have acess to rowdy roddy piper if i can get a local filmmaker to buy it. ( we have had some ups and downs , but we generally are still civil.) And that is about the best guy that we have access too for brad.

As far as pat, in a perfect world i would probably have Ryan Renolds , or maybe (sterotypically) Jason Mews. But more than likely since i am going to pitch it with most of the cast selected, yours truly will get it. As much as pat is a hero, ( and the film is fairly action oriented) , i don't want the "ex navy seal" type of hero. And at 5'7 i don't think anyone would accuse me of such.

Though from what i hear Mewes is cheap, if i could wrangle him, i would step away in a second.

One must keep in mind though that furries range from those who are simply fans of the art style to the freaks, and that most fall much closer to the "not so weird" end.

Yes, I can understand that. We all need our refuges from time to time, whether it is a place we can go to, a book to become immersed in, to living a fantasy for awhile.

Now the really freaky ones...I don't know. It can be sooo easy to step over a line (legally or clinically) and not even realize it, probably. I hope most of those type don't do that. If they do, I wonder if some have been helped psychiatricly. I don't know much about furries. This thread is very enlightening for me.

Okay, sounds good. So your film will not fit into the "FearNet" horror fest type of movie, then? Not that all those are bad. Some are actually quite original and good.

Annoying celebrity? Gosh, there are soooo many. My biggest annoyance is Kevin Kostner, the whiny mumbler. I can't STAND him.

Actually one i was in ( completely terrible one of the first efforts by the local filmmaker) was on fearnet for a while, Dark Fields. But it did end up getting bought by lions gate about 4-5 years after it was made. It is the ultimate example of a talented cast being paired with an inexperienced director. ( myself, brian and lyndsey , had worked together on stage stuff forever, the sears festival, drama competitions, etc. And not to toot my own horn but Brian and lyndsey are both excellent actors. You wouldn't notice in this film though. )

It was pretty funny, because i was walking in a local movie store, and i saw this movie, Dark fields ( the original title was Farmer Brown) cover looked pretty good, i started reading the back, and only noticed something up when i saw my name.

But with some experience under his belt and some b-listers the local filmmaker ( mark mcnabb, skylight productions) is actually churning out serviceable flicks now. And hopefully this film ends up being one of them.

I don't know how common the squirrel is in the furry world, but it's a great choice since squirrels are so common and easy for anyone to identify with.

And honestly ... the more I think about, the more the idea of a furry serial killer really could start a "genre". Vampires/werewolf mythos has been around forever, but even more so these days with Twilight being in the mind of every teenager who sleeps and eats. Equating a "real life animal-other-life" with the drama/gore/shock of serial killing and you've got yourself a half a million newbies, goths, and emo's willing to seek out the furry lifestyle and take it to the next level, in some ways that is (and obviously I'm not insinuating they start suffocating people for kicks and stalking their romantic interests as furrys :))

I think a fascinating poll would be to find out how many people are actually attracted to individuals who have alter personas in regards to animals. In some ways, it's really no different than being attracted to the charisma of an actor/actress who plays a role ...

Dude Ryan Reynolds is fantastic in every role he's cast in imo. I might be overstating his talent, but in some ways I think he's a white Will Smith (minus the musical talent). He has an ability to convey complete asinine behavior one moment, and then come off as a serious human being the next that you actually feel for.

And if you're serious about Rowdy Roddy Piper ... I wouldn't make him Brad (although who am I to give armchair advice? LOL) He could be Stranger if Stranger is going to be an older, more seasoned psychopath that essentially mentors Brad into his murderous behavior. Since Piper echoes back to the totally-freaking-awesome They Live cult classic, he should be the psycho-father figure. Starting off somewhat naive and then becoming more keen to his psychopathy later as Brad seems out of place for him, imo. He already knows the world is crazy since he donned those glasses so many years ago so let him show what those years have done to him LOL :)

Now, I'll tell you who I think would be great in one of the roles .... in all seriousness .... Dax Shepherd. I wonder how "expensive" he is? ;)

Now don't forget that the Jonas Brothers need to get hacked by a 7 foot squirrel :)

Yeah, i keep forgetting Roddy is old now, and i do want to keep Brad with kind of a man child thing going on.

As far as they live, yeah it kills me he went from that, to making films with the same people i have, lol. But don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I mean my goal is to create a low budget slasher , using elements that havn't really been introduced yet within the slasher genre, the internet plays a large role, to the point of , Status updates during some scenes which show only brad ( for example, a title card Mood : Happy ^.^) , but not in the sense that it has, ( being used to track people etc.) but just in the fact that it can connect anyone , no matter how twisted, to someone else equally as twisted. Well, that and bring back the hero i find horror films lately really lack a strong hero.

You're right. Lately horror films do lack a strong hero. Not only that, but they all seem to be the same, somehow. Nothing really new or different.

THIS one, however, would be new and different. That's a good thing.

I mean it was cool when the focus on the villian fad started, and a strong villian is good. But these one shot hero's just don't really hook me.

Really? I find the hero's lately to be the "tragic hero" which is flawed and morally ambiguous to be fascinating. The goody two-shoes Batman of yesteryear has been replaced with the awe-inspiring re-invented Batman who gladly plays good cop/bad cop within himself.

One of the reasons the last Batman flick was so wickedly awesome was because the line between the Joker and Batman was thin.

It's also a reason Dexter is so popular, imo ... and why the movie Crash was a rabbit hole I could go down forever and never reach the end of. Hero ambiguity appeals because we are ambiguous and not clear cut good/evil within ourselves.

Hell, I may not even be clear cut human anymore if I'm going to turn out to be part squirrel or something ;)

I'm curious what kind of hero you're going to turn Pat into? Will the line be thin between him and Brad? Is he going to have to get "old school" in order to bring Brad down?

And the idea of flashing emoticons up on the screen as part of the movie experience is interesting .....

:catfight: Oh, no, ya don't!
Hmm .... I'm suddenly craving a quesadilla ...

They're out there, but the problem is the tails. Big poofy tails are hard to costume well. Canines are the most popular I've seen.

This book has a furry serial killer in it. Or maybe a multiple murderer. It's been a while since I read it.

And you know ... even though now I'd love to know which one was you in the flick so I could watch your skillz in action ... I'll refrain from asking LOL :)

And by the way, did I say that I wouldn't ask which character you were in that movie? I did right? Okay good. I won't ask you which character you were in that flick. :) Nooooo worries LOL

Interesting. I wonder what the most popular furry to be is and what the least popular is?
