It's a Civil War: What We Do Now

Calling the Republicans the "party of NO" for opposing the bill is silly -- just like calling the Democrats who voted against the war in Iraq "traitors" was silly. (Both might be WRONG, but that's another issue).

The job of the opposition is to oppose, isn't it?

No. The job of the opposition, whomever that may be at a given time, is to do and act in what they feel is the best interests of the people that elected them. Not to give blanket opposition to legislation based solely on party lines with no thought or consideration given as to how they personally, or their electorate, may benefit or feel about the issue.

Many GOPers now threaten to not cooperate with Obama on ANY further legislation. Can we call them the "Party of NO"..if they fulfill this threat?

imagine if the GOP decides to not vote for the Start 3 treaty, which was just agreed to by Obama and Medvedev. Thousands of extra nuclear weapons, thanks to the GOP.

Also, there's a pretty overwhelming "will of the people" in favor of banking reform. I'd like to see the Republicans sit this out and then continue trying to say the Democrats aren't listening to the people.

Gee ... seems to me that was the threat by democrats if the republicans had sought to bring members of the Clinton administration to justice for the many crimes they obviously committed. It's why Bush decided to "move on". And why would GOPers want to cooperate with legislation by Obama that threatens to do even more damage to the economy and our personal liberties anyway?

I'm curious Joe. Do you think most people know what Mark To Market is? If not, then how can they make an enlightened judgement as to whether "banks" were/are the problem with the economic mess we now find ourselves in? And if they don't know what Mark To Market is, then whose fault is that? I'll tell you ... politicians (yes, on both sides of the political spectrum but mostly on the left's side) and the mainstream media (mostly composed of Big Government leftists). And who do you think is responsible for Mark To Market? You guessed it. The government. The same people who haven't informed the masses about it. So I ask you again ... do you think most people are expressing their "will" with an awareness of what Mark To Market is and the effect it had and to some extent still has? Because if they aren't, who are you kidding? Maybe you're just trying to find a scapegoat for a problem that the government itself created. :D

I think it'd be great if these "small government" proponents end up getting arrested by federal agents for doing ecological damage in the place they plan to bivouac.

LOL! As if Obama cares about the "ecological damage" that his supporters cause. Ever hear of Jodie Evans and Code Pink? Ever hear of the Rain Forest Action Network? She's on the board of directors of that organization. And she cofounded it with Mike Roselle, who founded the Earth Liberation Front. And the ELF is ranked the No. 1 domestic terrorism threat by the FBI.

Yes, but how does this link Obama to Kevin Bacon?

In the eyes of a leftist? Well that is likely true. :D

I can't help but notice the ad homs. I find it funny that you resort to calling people leftists when you have no facts to support any of your arguments.

It must be very frustrating that reality simply doesn't agree with ANYTHING you say.

I don't suppose it had anything to do with credit default swaps, sovereign wealth and high risk inverstments. Goodness no!

BTW, you should not derail your own thread. Can't provide evidence so, it must be time to change the topic.

I see. You don't like democracy.

That's fine, but the hypocrisy I'm pointing out is that the same people who have been complaining that the Democrats aren't listening to the people are the ones threatening to ignore wide popular support for banking reform in order to pout because healthcare reform passed.

What are you going on about? I'm pointing out that the place where the Tea Party is camping out near Searchlight is a fragile desert that is the habitat of a protected species. There was some concern that 10,000 people camping there could be destructive, and the CNN article quoted someone saying there's a $25,000 fine for even picking up one of these turtles. (I can't find that quote now, because the updated story no longer includes it.)

My point was that it would be somehow fitting if these small government Tea Baggers got in trouble with the feds over just such a thing. Can you imagine trying to fine a Tea Bagger $25K for picking up a turtle in the desert?

LOL! What's the problem, Joe? You don't know what Mark To Market is? You don't know why it's relevant to this topic? Are you just one of the many in that situation? If so, how can you possibly have an enlightened opinion about the need for the sort of reform we actually need ... bank or otherwise?

What are you going on about? If someone hurts the environment out there, I've no doubt they will be punished. But last I heard there have been no reports of injury, damage or arrests. Unlike many cases where the left has trashed the location of one of their protests.

And by the way, I find it rather hilarious that you are soooooo worried about 10,000 people doing damage to the *fragile* environment of a small plot of land south of Las Vegas over a single weekend, yet haven't started a thread to condemn what happens in the desert town of Quartzite Arizona each January and February when over a million people show up in motor homes and what not. Here's yet another case of a leftist with misplaced priorities. :D

You know, your use of the term "Tea Baggers" says more about you than them.
