It's a Civil War: What We Do Now

What We Do Now

Take Fort Sumter, right before you get a necromancer to bring Lee back.

That sarcasm aside...I hate the use of Civil War because it is a disrespect not only to the United States of America, but to those who still fight civil wars to this day.

Nevermind. I thought this was a brand new thread, but it's already moved on quite a bit.

But.... if it did come down to a 1860's style shooting civil war, just remember;

The conservatives have the guns. The liberals have the ACLU.

Scissors beats paper.

So it goes.

DDWW

Oh, okay. I got a .30-06 and the ACLU.

Conervatives vs. liberals, can we stop with the stereotypes.

(...) and whose only real claim to fame (as opposed to infamy) is presiding over a period when the economy exploded thanks to an internet boom and due to taxes/spending being lowered by Republican action. So believe me, Meadmaker, the real conservatives around here haven't had any illusions about how you will vote in coming elections, no matter what you've typed recently regarding your annoyance at the national debt. :D

Um, that is not true, my friend. Average tax rates of US Households increased steadily during the 90's. See the third graph here:

http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/08/how-much-americans-actually-pay-in-taxes/

for evidence. Now, I expect you to stop making false statements, ok?

How dishonest of you to omit that many were against it because it doesn't go far enough.

Let's not forget why it doesn't go far enough... because the "party of NO" wouldn't have had it any other way..

I love how republicans have their nonstop smear campaign running to the point of making half of America sick of hearing about healthcare reform, then they call dems "slimy" for using whatever resources they are left with, after the barrage of negativity pursued to destroy healthcare reform by the GOP and it's propaganda machine..

BaC, do you still really believe you're a bipartisan?

Wrong gun for an American Civil War.
You need a .58 Caliber Springfilled or .577 Enfield.

I've got a Winchester Model '66, from 1871. Can I use that? It's a couple of years past the due date, but it's close.

And, I think I'm a liberal, but I own 7 rifles, 2 shotguns, and a pistol. I think I'm having an identity crisis.

On the other hand, I don't own any bullets.

Calling the Republicans the "party of NO" for opposing the bill is silly -- just like calling the Democrats who voted against the war in Iraq "traitors" was silly. (Both might be WRONG, but that's another issue).

The job of the opposition is to oppose, isn't it?

Just like a liberal to have weapons that are good only for show and not for actually doing anything...

:D :boxedin:

they want a civil war, but they know that's impossible. so they really don't know what they are saying.

Do they really want a civil war? I find that hard to believe, quite honestly.

If they do wish to start a civil war I presume they will justify it in the name of some big word like "freedom". I hate hurrah words: they can justify anything at all. I find it useful to look instead at the wee words. And I do not think you can justify real, bloody civil war in which your granny's head rolls in the gutter because you don't like the way a small proportion of your tax is spent. Will you starve if health care is provided to folk you don't approve of? Will any really serious consequence for you and yours follow if the system of health care is changed in the ways proposed? It is not like they are abolishing health care (which might be a big enough issue) or even forcing those who already have it to change their decisions about how they get it, are they?

I don't think they want a real civil war at all: I do think they want to bully people into giving them their own way, though. And I think perhaps they lack imagination: they imagine my granny's head in the gutter and that is fine by them: but they do not imagine their own granny's head. I think they should spend some time contemplating that picture. Is it really worth that?

Well their job definitely isn't to blindly impede the political process simply for sake of impeding the process all the while offering no desirable alternatives.
