March 23, 2010

by Dennis Prager

A terrible thing happened to America on Sunday, March 21, 2010.

The country took its biggest step ever down a road diametrically opposed to its original intent of keeping the state small so that the individual can be free and great.

Therefore, in this unprecedented crisis of values, this is what needs to be done:

1. Know and teach America's core values.

… snip …

2. Recognize that we are fighting the left, not liberals

… snip …

3. Democrats should be referred to as Social Democrats.

… snip ...

4. Work tirelessly to repeal the bill.

… snip …

5. Our motto: "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen."

… snip …

6. Do not let other matters distract.

… snip …

7. Acknowledge that we are in a non-violent civil war.

… snip ...

After Sunday's vote, for the first time in American history, one could no longer confidently believe that the American system will prevail. And if we don't fight for it, we don't deserve it.

Fight how? Through what means?
I quess mainly by saying "no" a lot. And not showing up for work as a senator.

Oh, and most importantly, to push the agenda of your minority as the will of the founding fathers, to dictate policy for the rest of the country. How else can you be free?

The GOP and Conservatives and Rea-Baggers have every right to fight to retake control of Congress, through peaceful yet vigorous campaigning. And if they lose in 2010...they can try again in 2012.

I would rather see this health care bill work out in the long run, then to have the people who supposedly represent me fight the president inch for inch on it. Would their time not be better spent talking with the dems, and working to better the bill, instead of this nonsense?

Maybe I'm just a little too young for this.

Well, that's what I'm asking. Unless they plan to take up arms against their fellow Americans, I fail to see how this talk of Civil War is anything but empty rhetoric.

indeed. the GOP can keep on trying to make the law better. i got no problem with that.

but simply crying in the corner? that's just silly.

How ironic given that we just witnessed democrat leaders ram a health care bill through Congress (by the slimiest of margins and using every slimy trick in the book to do it) when poll after poll showed that a clear majority of American citizens were firmly against passage of the bill. Yes, how ironic. :D

"Know and teach America's core values..."

Which ones? The separation of church and state? The Texas School Board is trying to see fit for that.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts1253

"- Thomas Jefferson no longer included among writers influencing the nation’s intellectual origins. Jefferson, a deist who helped pioneer the legal theory of the separation of church and state, is not a model founder in the board’s judgment. Among the intellectual forerunners to be highlighted in Jefferson’s place: medieval Catholic philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas, Puritan theologian John Calvin and conservative British law scholar William Blackstone. Heavy emphasis is also to be placed on the founding fathers having been guided by strict Christian beliefs."

How is censorship and revisionism a "core value?"

How dishonest of you to omit that many were against it because it doesn't go far enough.

No, we're just going to fight the left for it's control.
Well, Good for you. As a member of this fine nation, I encourage all people to actively participate in the political process. Whether they be tea partiers, communists, libertarians, socialists, nazis, you name it. All are welcome to campaign for a say in politics.

Let the open market place of ideas raise the cream to the top. Just don't complain if your ideas are found to be a curdled mass of sick.

And just how were they to do that when Obama and the democrats shut them out of discussions about the bill very early last year? You're deceiving yourself if you think for one minute that democrats honestly wanted to work with republicans to *better* the bill. You're even deceiving yourself as to the real purpose of the bill (in democrat leadership eyes).

That kind of move will reflect back on people come November, and again when Obama's term nears its' end. That is what News and radio pundits are there for. Senators, reps, and all the other right wingers would do better to work this bill steadily towards the center, and make it work for the people, rather than look like lunatics.

Me thinks someone here would prefer something more, then just electing different Congressmen in November.

The "Social Democrat" thing is the funniest to me. Also using post-founding "core values" .
