TAM London Roll Call

So anyone planning on doing anything touristy when in London?

I revist St Paul's & Westminster Abbey every time I am in London. I'll also hit several art museums and try to finally get to Kew Gardens. Trying to work in some football, if I can get there on the prior Saturday. Waiting for tickets to go on sale.

I will be only 5 days in London, and my schedule is already full of activities, ...., and beer. I need recommendations on "something" to keep me awake, alert and energetic for 18 hours a day.

I understand King's Cross is the place for that sort of "thing", but I may be out of the loop.

Massively off-topic, sorry

I drink the odd can of Red Bull when I'm on a long car journey, and they're great for that, but I'm worried by the number of young people I see swigging it down like water all day long. It's the soft drink (and mixer) du jour, and has resulted in a number of copycat products, including one (Monster?) in a half litre can which has now led to Red Bull bringing out a half litre can of its own. That's an awful lot of caffeine, almost like necking half a pack of Pro Plus (which I did once on a school trip to Stratford on Avon, but that's another story). I wonder what the long term effects are of high-level caffeine intake in 12-20 year-olds...

You'll meet Rebecca Watson at TAM London. She's the long term effect. So stop now.

There's about the same amount of caffeine in one Red Bull (80mg) as in a cup of coffee; ProPlus are about 50mg per tablet. Of course, you can overdo it with either drink (and there was the stag do I went to where I had several Red Bull and vodkas and couldn't get to sleep), but the amount per drink is not outrageous.

I booked my accommodation last week (for Friday and Saturday night - I live in Portsmouth, so I'm reckoning on returning home on Sunday evening) so you can add me to the list :)

Tally (Update) Ho!

Hi, all.

Found this thread a bit late in the game, but you can add me to the list of JREF Forum TAM London peeps. Actually managed to land a ticket on the first day, but what with the bouncy-bouncy-fun-fun-fun registration website, I ended up having to multibox it between the desktop and laptop (and Firefox and Opera) until I finally squeaked through to Google Checkout.

I can only get away from uni for the extended weekend (and will spend a fair whack of that on those - ahem - 'lovely' Megabus coaches between Newcastle and London), but am well up for gatherings between 14:00 on Friday and 23:30 on Monday.

Shame I'll miss the skeptical pub crawl being floated for the Wednesday, but I'm sure sufficient drinking opportunities shall abound over the other days. See you there!

You do? Me too. Quite agree - you want to stay the night, I commute to SITP and it's bad enough having to bail from that a bit early, and TAM can only be worse in that respect :)

Hello all - I'm a Londoner who will be attending TAM.

Does anyone fancy a magic/caberet show? £10 entry or £20 including dinner.
Only on once a month but that includes Friday 2nd October.

Link: http://www.magicnight.co.uk/

Blurb: MAGIC NIGHT, a cutting edge cabaret at Madame JoJo's, with Sorcery, Comedy, Music and Physically impossible feats. This is a magic show but not as you know it, forget rabbits n hats, think turning water into wine and raising the dead and then you’re on track.

At Magic Night, we grabbed groundbreaking Magicians, threw in some punk, turned up the music, tied it up, made it disappear, made em weep, made em laugh, escaped from water and then breakdanced all over it whilst the she strummed a Ukelee....thus Magic Night came screaming into the world.

Come and find out why we are a continuous critics choice and make other show look like....well....just shows.

This will be the most entertaining, neck craning, hilarious and edge of your seat show you will see this year or you can slap my gnome.

That sounds good. I'm looking for something to do on the Friday evening that doesn't involve just the imbibing of alcohol.

It looks like I will make it to TAM London after all. Got a ticket from somebody who cancelled. Looking forward to it.

Re: Magic Night

I'm waiting to hear whether there will be a Skeptics in the Pub in Blackfriars on the Friday night, if not I am definitely in for the magic night, sounds like a great evening out and a bargain to boot (I do love the current euro-pound exchange rate!).

The meal does sound very tempting though:
JO JO MEZE MENU £20 FOR TWO SLOW ROASTED LEMON SCENTED LAMB SHARWAMA WITH PICKLES *** CRISP FRIED HALOUMI AND AUBERGINE *** FALAFFEL WITH HUMOUS AND SOUR CREAM DRESSING *** SELECTION OF DIPS; TATZIKI, HUMOUS, TARAMASALATA WITH FLAT BREADS *** SPINACH AND FETA FILO PARCELS *** SELECTION OF DOLMARS *** FETA, CUCUMBER AND MINT COUSCOUS *** PISTACHIO AND HONEY CAKES *** HONEY SYRUP DONUTS
