Megan McCain "Am I Not Worthy Of Being A Member of Republican Party?" -In A Word, NO!

No, no, I stand by that completely. There's nothing "mistaken" about it.

"Jesus said so" is the very essence of expanded government power.

Strawman. You responded to a single sentence of my post and treat it as if it were the whole. How about you acknowledge my point about public abortion funding?

Would somebody explain "Raychill" to me, please? I don't understand it. In order to have a play on words, you have to have one meaning, and then another meaning, right? Like "McSame" - the one meaning is that it sounds like McCain, which was the guy's name, and the other meaning is that he's the same as George W. Bush. Now sure, that's not true or fair, and I don't blame a conservative for having his tender sensibilities offended hearing such a slur. But at least we understand what it means, right? Or, to take one going the other way, "Hitlery" - one way, it sounds like "Hillary," and at the same time, it has "Hitler" in it, and Hitler was bad. So again, not really true or fair, and potentially offensive, but we understand what it means. So fine. But what does "Raychill" connote? I know what a ray is, and I know what it is to chill, but those are hardly negative images. So, what's going on? I don't ask because I'm offended (or out of "indignation"), but because I'm confused.

Once that's explained, I'd love to hear the explanation behind "Algore" and "Klinton." I don't get them. Am I wrong in thinking all of the nonsensical nicknames come from the right to describe the left, or does the left have some nicknames for the right that make no sense?

It means "Rachel Madcow" wasn't quite obvious enough.

See, that's a good one. Offensive if you're the type to get offended by that kind of thing, but at least it makes sense. Like "Rush Limpballs" or "mAnn Coulter" or even "Billary Clinton." They're stupid in a few different ways, but at least we know why people say them.

Now, to originate the Rachel Madcow taunt would have demonstrated a little comic agility (or dumb luck), it having so many possible meanings attached. Mad as in angry. Mad as in crazy. Cow as in typical insult to unattractive woman. And then there's mad cow disease. Wish I'd thought of that.

Algore is a takeoff on Ygor; at one point Limbaugh (aka Limpballs) had some sort of gag on his show about Clinton as Frankenstein and Algore as his demented hunchback sidekick.

Klinton is pretty stupid, but basic; turn any C into a K and you're implying something like KKK. The left used to refer to Amerika (or Amerikkka).

The one that strikes me as the biggest reach is "Doughy Pantload". That's supposed to refer to Jonah Goldberg (LA Times columnist). Many of the biggest liberal bloggers use that one.

Okay, thanks, that helps.

That one has the opposite problem - we know why it's insulting, but it's not a play on the guy's name at all. It is, IMO, pretty accurate though. I mean, he is a doughy guy, and he's full of "it."

... still no help on "Raychill" from anyone?

If you simplistic assessment of the last election is true, what then is the republicans motivation for moving to the centre or even to the left?

Why would anyone vote for another democratic party when they can vote for the original democratic party?

Where is the choice under such a situation? How is this not a one-party state?
I think I was more advocating that they should not move to the right. And there is plenty of ground between actually being a Democrat and being a frothing nutcase of the Coulter/Limbaugh type. Maybe they could occupy that.

As for my analysis being "simplistic", I think you could add as many nuances to it as you like and still come to the same conclusion. There just aren't enough dittoheads that pandering to them is a route to power.

Coulter's an idiot, and the conservative wing of the GOP has gone insane.

What's Meghan's sin? Questioning the claim by Coulter that her dad was more liberal than Hillary. What kind of idiot would believe that?

Coulter would rather be an important person in a losing party than a minor figure in a winning party. I've got a hunch she is going to get her wish.

Coulter is not an idiot, a slime, yes, an anal orifice, yes, but never, so far, an idiot.

You know the division in the Republican party is sort of odd. I have to dredge up the Youtube video of Shepard Smith actually mocking Glenn Beck and his moronic "Danger Room". Funny and both odd.

Indeed, back in high school and college I got involved in the GOP and it shocked me to find how "liberal" (or rather, libertarian) many young Republicans' views were on abortion, homosexuality, drug legalization, and the Religious Reich. I even knew one or two who were closeted atheists. Now whenever I have the misfortune of meeting these people 10-20 years later, I discover that most of them have gone even further to the right, complaining about same sex-marriage, partial birth abortion," and how difficult it is to be white conservative christian in the face of the "liberal agenda."

Some use the "9-11 changed everything" canard for their change in attitude. Although, I don't see how the destruction of the WTC would lead one to embrace Creationism and prayer in school like my former friends have. Others that getting married and crapping out a few whiny kids "changed their outlook on life." So besides leading to a lifetime of boring, sexless, ennui (barring the sweet release of death or divorce), getting saddled with a spouse and a pack of spoiled brats turns you into a raving right-wing bigot? Yeah, sign me up for that!

I, on the other hand, went from anti-gay/anti-abortion/anti-"liberal" arch-Catholic Republican (In fact, I used to sound JUST like Cicero.) to an atheist pro-abortion, pro-gay, independent. Go figure.

Anyway, I don't hold out much hope for the GOP becoming more reasonable anytime soon. Right now the party is in the hands of a bunch of Bible-humping jingoists who aren't in any danger of retiring or dying off in the near future. By the time the current crop of young Republicans replace them, they'll be brainwashed into the cult of modern conservatism and will be just as crotchety and narrow-minded as their predecessors.

It appears that age has only dulled your senses. Where have I thumped the bible, expressed a desire to outlaw abortions, or expressed an opinion different from President Obama on gay marriage? It sounds as if your involvement with the GOP amounted to some Ward Churchill type experiment. You say you are an "independent," but you have cut all ties to any friends that are conservative. Perhaps you should look in the mirror and see the true face of intolerance, prejudice, pettiness, and the persona of a malcontent.

Let's see, she thinks John Edwards is gay and she thinks John McCain is more liberal than Hillary Clinton. I'd call that being an idiot. YRMV.

Here is "Snipery" Hillary's reaction to A.C.'s endorsement. She initially cackles at the news, but says "Well, see, I told you I could bring the country together."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFQS2L1M72k

In her distant youth, "Snipery" Hillary was a Goldwater Republican.

Edwards spent $1200 on a haircut. Gay? No. But it certainly makes him a bonafide metrosexual. He also had his wife phone into "Hardball" to cry about A.C.'s comments. Is there anyone defending Edwards today?

Pat Caddell on A.C.'s remark about Edwards:

"Look, I love Ann. I do think that in terms of that particular — I saw the clip. I mean, I can see why she thought it was a joke. I can see why other people did not and why they would have made the reference point. But sometimes people have a hard time with Ann's humor. But I thought the Republican candidates were quick to jump, and the — what I liked best was the Edwards campaign commenting as though Ann was the right wing of the entire nation forcing down upon their campaign. It was very funny. They were raising money with it. So at least you raised money for them, Ann, but I'm sure it won't hurt any of your book sales either.

People take all this stuff far too seriously."

In her distant youth explains a lot. People change as they age. Whether or not that's a good thing is open to debate.

Edwards spent $1,200 on a haircut. My wife cut my hair a couple of days ago for free. Gay? No. Metrosexual? Possibly. Stupid? No question.

And asking his wife to run interference for him? Smarmy and low. No, I don't defend him.

The kind of idiot who believes Ann Coulter about anything, I suppose.

Probably the same idiot who believes everything he reads in the newspapers.

(Who was it who said that a newspaper editor should have a pimp for a brother, so he'd have someone to look up to?)
