I post on the F1 thread in the sports forum. You should see the discussions we have there. All about tobacco advertising and technicalities associated with the sport.

Anyhow, welcome to the board, I like how you picked close to April Fool's Day as the time to come on board (I'm not eating you, I'm merely nibbling :D )!

Thanks for your insight. I realize that not everyone on these boards is going to be dedicated to reasonable debate. Just like the way it is at LC. There are prejudiced folk here, and prejudiced folk there. The reason I am here is because there is clearly a place for reasonable debate. When I tried to spark reasonable debate at LC, I was lynched. At the LC boards, people THINK they're having reasonable debate, but what they are actually doing is debating amongst themselves....a dangerous method. How can you have a reasonable debate when you automatically reject people who state they disagree with the conspiracy theory?

And I do, in fact, still look at WTC 7 and scratch my head. The difference is that I don't automatically assume it means 9/11 was planned by the US government. Even if Larry Silverstein did have some sort of hand in bringing the building down, wouldn't that chalk up more to one man's greed than an entire administration's evil? Also, if the people at LC would give the "pull it" thing a rest I'd have a little more respect for them. Give me a break. IF there was a conspiracy, and IF that was any sort of a confession, it would never have been allowed to air. Ever.

I find your comment on acceptance extremely insulting, by the way. If you have to resort to that kind of thing, then I'm glad you're stuck in the intellectual nightmare you're in right now.

And an interesting side note......if you'd like to see a carbon copy of the ignorance on the Loose Change boards, look for a message board on the Flat Earth theory. I went there once, and I couldn't believe the parallels. Absolutely hilarious. You guys should team up.
 
Welcome, jdhammer. I'm relatively new to these boards, and would post more, but the folks here have a great grasp on things, so I avoid parroting.

I can also relate with you. About a year and a half ago I was drawn into studying the possible conspiracy because of a short film about the Pentagon. The deeper I dug, the more ridiculous it got. Once they "truth" movement announced that Charlie Sheen was backing them, I completely backed off. I was very put off by the lack of scientific rigor and the ridiculous amount of assuming, conjecture, and speculation that makes up the conspiracy theory. Then, I found JREF. It's a great place with good people who actually have a grasp on how to debate without resorting ad hom, or making like David Caruso in Jade.

Welcome, jd. There's no egg at all. Part of skepticism is recognizing new data, new analyses, old errors, etc. and changing your perspective accordingly. Being stuck in the past is the egg part. So walk in the door with your head held high -- thoughtful change is an honorable characteristic here.

I have nothing bad to say about FDNY! I have far more respect for them then the NYPD.

In all sincerity, I quite understand how painful 9/11 must have been for the NYFD and I do not fault or criticize them whatsoever!

It's all spin. JREF skeptics interpret firefighter quotes one way and truth seekers like myself accept those quotes as being honest but we also place them in context with the day's events.

I know it's hard to listen to an opposing point of view once you've made up your mind, especially about something as serious as 9/11.

The collapse of WTC7 goes beyond any explanation the NYFD made. It's not like they declared it would collapse the way it did. They saw what happened to WTC 1 & 2 and they were pre-disposed to accept the same from WTC7. I'm sure if I had been a firefighter on the scene I would have made the same claim. Hell I would have been ready for every building in the WTC complex to do the same.

WTC7 collapsed symmetrically at freefall speed virtually into it's own footprint..not one firefighter was quoted as expecting that!

That is completely incorrect. Firefighters had very strong suspicions that WTC7 would collapse because of trained observations. It had nothing to do with "predisposition."

Aren't we contradicting ourselves a bit here?

- They saw what happened to WTC 1 & 2, and they were pre-disposed to accept the same from WTC 7.

- Not one firefighter was quoted as expecting that (implying they would NOT accept the same from WTC 7?)

The FDNY never explained the collapse, MM. They never claimed to.

What they did say was that WTC7 was clearly unstable and would fall. That's why they pulled their men back from the area.

And why would they expect WTC7 to fall based on the WTC towers coming down? After all, WTC7 wasn't hit by a plane (you guys never forget to remind us of that).

They only reason they would suspect a WTC7 collapse would be because it was structurally unstable - which is exactly what they claim!

You're not calling them liars, are you? I mean when the firefighters say WTC7 was in danger of collapse because it was damaged, they're telling the truth, right?

So go ahead, MM: If WTC7 was a demolition then explain how the FDNY would knew it would fall unless they noticed signs of structural failure.
