The Tim Walz campaign, and the ******** attacks upon him.

'Once a Marine, Always A Marine" is just a reference that the USMC seems to have a way of inspiring pride in being or having been a Marine in a way that lasts even when a person is no longer in the Corp that the other services seem unable to equal.
And, no I am not a ex Marine, ex US Army.

I was referring to identity, not specifics. Marines have a creed/ code that IMV is out of whack. Ever hear the expression "Unit, Corp, God, Country?" Marines are very serious about their loyalty to the Marine Corp above other priorities.

It can be over done, of course, but Unit Pirde is something any really good MNilitary unit has to have.
And I don't doubt the loyalty to the country of most Marines.

Me either.

Still, my experience is that Marines are more fanatical than any branch of the US military. I could never be a Marine. I couldn't put the Corp ahead of my country. Or some fairy tale being. IMV, that's out of whack. But I do get the importance of fighting for the guy next to you.

IIUC, there's a state law that mandates non-discrimination, so it's all bathrooms, not just girls', so boys' bathrooms will be supplied with sanitary products, even if there is no-one needing them using that room at that school.
Not really. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/121A.212
121A.212 ACCESS TO MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS.
A school district or charter school must provide students with access to menstrual products at no charge. The products must be available to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students in grades 4 to 12 according to a plan developed by the school district. For purposes of this section, "menstrual products" means pads, tampons, or other similar products used in connection with the menstrual cycle.
It does not say boys. It says "all menstruating students". If a school has a trans-male student that uses the boy's room then they will presumably be putting a dispenser in the boys room that the student uses. If there are no transgender students, the I suppose school policy will be to only have dispensers in the girl's restrooms and any gender neutral restrooms.

Spot on. I don't know anyone I went to the South Atlantic with that tries to use any of it for bragging right or to big themselves up.
I had uncles that variously fought in the Battle of the River Plate and Med and went ashore on D-Day. they had stories about it but not particularly about what they did.
Same for my Grandad who was on the Western Front in WW1.
Best example of all was Stanley Hollis. He was the only man to win a VC on D-Day and in his later years was the Landlord of the Hollywell View pub in Liverton Mines. My Grandad knew him well. He never mentioned his exploits at all.

I haven't served but from a third party perspective I completely agree. For example, the biggest braggart I know is ex-army, this guy brags about everything to the point that I've seen him pretend to be a famous musician who's name he happens to share (he's over 20 years younger so it only works on people who recognise the name but don't know, really, anything about his work) to impress people and sign autographs for them. But when it comes to his army service he's completely different, he had in all a pretty fortunate posting and he talks about that aspect which lead to his current business from time to time, but he did see combat & he only mentioned it once to me, briefly, in very prosaic terms. our job involved quite a bit of travel so we spent a lot of time sitting in hotels, bars & restaurants chewing the fat.

I'm not seeing what the lie is. Kerry served in Cambodia, only to have Nixon, an undisclosed time later, deny that they were there, and that affected him. Where does he suggest that those two events happened around the same time? How is that detail supposed to be important to his narrative?

My brother was in Cambodia but wasn't allowed to say so for some years afterwards.

I am betting that sooner or later, Walz will make an appreance with Garrison Keeler, still a revered figure in Minnesota.

I don't know if he'd really need to considering Walz is a revered figure in Minnesota himself. I don't see Minnesota being a battleground state at all. I think it's almost assuredly locked in for Harris\Walz

Perhaps I'm greatly misreading this election year. But it is almost like the RNC is trying to throw the 2024 general election with their nomination of Trump.

Does anyone here actually think Trump will win? I think he will do as well as Carter/Mondale did back in 1980 but better than Mondale/Ferraro in 1984.

They thought they would win while their media did everything to make Biden look feeble and senile. Now he's out, Kamala hit the ground running, and the media is having a harder and harder time ignoring that Trump has ten times the mental issues Biden ever had and is in full meltdown mode.

The GOP honestly thought they had a good chance. Heck, they might still have one if they reign Trump in, get something real for the base and independents to be angry at, and Harris make a few dozen unforced errors.

They are not throwing this election although I suspect some in the GOP would be very glad to see Trump not only fail, but fail spectacularly so they can get back on track...whatever that is.

Dunno about that. We live in a world where certain media outlets and certain politicians would shamelessly decry Walz appearing on stage with a man who touched a woman’s bare back without consent and be so upset about it that they will vote for Mr Grab-em-by-the-pussy instead.

Hypocritical? Yes, of course. Nonetheless likely to happen? Absolutely, of course!

I don't think so. The repugs are the party of T****y until he keels over after which there will be the mother of handbags to see who gets to preside over the ashes.

But until then what T****y wants, T****y gets. And he wanted the nomination.

There was some thought during the 2016 (I know I thought it) that Trump didn't really want to win. He just wanted the attention and the ability to market the Trump brand. Him winning was as much of a shock to him as it was to the rest of the nation. I wonder if he's kind of doing the same thing here.

When you think about it, if he blows the election he has zero of the responsibilities that come with the White House, he can still scream and moan that it was stolen, he can keep grifting his people (which is worth more than 400K) and won't have to worry about running again.

I'm not saying Trump is smart enough for a conspiracy, but coming up with a plan to maximize his profits and have no responsibility is right up his aisle. Dragging down Vance doesn't bother him a bit because Vance (or anyone) aren't people to him.

ETA: Just realized that we might be off topic, I thought this was the election thread. Mods, feel free to move it or do whatever.

I think his bigger agenda would be to stay out of prison...
