General UK politics VII -Return of the Starmer

Which should lead to anyone who interviews any apparatchik from Reformplc to ask what the point of them being there is, as all they are doing is flying fantasy kites?

But will anyone do that? Or will they continue acting as though Reform actually mean something?

Slight pedantic point: Reform is not a PLC, it is a limited company (ltd). It doesn't have any shares that the public can buy.

I think everyone including the Tory party were planning on it being an autumn election so thought they’d have the quiet (politics wise) summer months to get their ducks in a row. Proper vetting of 600 plus candidates takes a lot of man hours.

I remember some Tory party person defending poor behaviour by one MP saying the short notice for the 2019 election meant they couldn't properly vet all candidates. And here we are again, again.

Current leaflet count (candidates in same order as on this page :

Green - 0
Reform - 3 (all the same)
Labour - 2 (different ones, but both have a Union flag on, unlike the others)
Freedom Alliance* - 0
Conservative - 3 (different ones)
LibDem - 0

*I had not heard of this party and an initial google brought up parties in Fiji and Finland. I subsequently found their webpage and their main ideas seem to be opposition to Covid restrictions and anti-ULEZ. I know that the London area is bigger than it was many years ago, but I don't think the boundaries quite reach North East Derbyshire yet.

Current leaflet count - a big fat zero.

This constituency is so solidly Labour it seems nobody is bothering.

I've lost count of the number of LibDem leaflets we've had, and several people have complained on social media about the numbers; we're in one of their prime target seats, and they're spending a fortune on printing.

My leaflet count:

Green 10
Labour 4
Lib Dem 1
Everybody else 0

Also had one canvasser from the Green Party.

I live in Bristol and the Green Party does have a realistic chance of taking the constituency but I still find it ironic that they are the ones spamming me with the most trash.

Breaking news: just got another Green leaflet and my first Reform UK (ltd) leaflet.

:D The anti-ULEZ brigade are pining for the days when Del Boy and Robin heroically ran through the twilight streets of the hinterlands in their Batman and Robin outfits. They were the prophets that foresaw the hated ULEZ cameras. The blue print Blade Runners. They will be appearing in North East Derbyshire soon. You just wait and see, infidel.

The Tories have dropped two candidates who are under investigation for allegedly placing suspicious bets about date of general election.

The Conservative party has finally dropped the two candidates who are under investigation for allegedly placing suspicious bets about the date of the election, after previously standing by them.

In a major U-turn, the party said it could no longer support the candidacy of Craig Williams, a parliamentary private secretary to Rishi Sunak standing in Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr, and Laura Saunders, the candidate for Bristol North West.

They haven't been removed as tory candidates (effectively de-selected), they have they just lost tory funding for their campaigns.

5 communications from the Lib Dems including 2 personally addressed letters, one of which was from a former Labour party member explaining why Labour supporters should vote tactically. One rather pathetic leaflet from the sitting Tory, delivered by mail.

My constituency is 65th on the Lib Dem target list, it would need a swing of 15% for them to win it. Labour was a distant third last time.

Five more police officers now alleged to have placed (suspicious) bets on the election date.

The officers are based on [sic] the Royalty and Specialist Command, the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and the Central West Basic Command Unit. None of them work [sic] in a close protection role.

2 Tory leaflets, 1 Lib Dem, nothing from anyone else; no canvassers, but then again I can only recall one canvasser in 20 odd years (Lib Dem in 2015 who got a furious tirade about lying, supporting Tories, butchering local services, ministerial salaries, the Orange Book and the rest - turned out he was the father of the PPC).
