I imagine its not going to be that popular with the parents of teenagers either. It does smack of "vote Tory and then we're coming for your kids"

At least the 1979-97 Tory government only tried to blame everything on what Labour did when they were in power before that. This lot are trying to blame Labour for everything that's happened since 2010.

David Cameron has an 18 year old son. Would he rather his son did national service than follow in his footsteps and go to university and shag a dead pig's head?

I saw someone on Facebook arguing that 'boomers' would be in favour of National Service for teenagers. I'm not sure why that follows, when none of them would have done it themselves.

Maybe that's why they'd be in favour of it, they've never experienced it. ;)

The planet on which their own party has presided over a disastrous Brexit and our rivers being filled with ****. And has a leader who relaunches his own policies every other week.

But he has a plan!

And it turns out that Sunak didn't even have the support of his own ministers:

Minister rejected plans for national service two days before Tory pledge

But just two days before the announcement, Mr Murrison, who served for 18 years as a medical officer in the Royal Navy and was recalled as a reservist for a six-month tour of duty in Iraq during the war, expressed opposition to any restoration of national service.

In a statement on behalf of the Government responding to a written parliamentary question published on Thursday, after Mr Sunak had called a July 4 election, the minister said: “If potentially unwilling national service recruits were to be obliged to serve alongside the professional men and women of our armed forces, it could damage morale, recruitment and retention and would consume professional military and naval resources.

“If, on the other hand, national service recruits were kept in separate units, it would be difficult to find a proper and meaningful role for them, potentially harming motivation and discipline.

Don't be so hard on Sunak - he is just following The Grand Design of one of Britain's greatest Prime Minsters:

Jim Hacker

(Yes Prime Minister, Season 1 Episode 1)

Rishi says he's going to use the money in the Shared Prosperity Fund to pay for the national service.

While playing the forum eurovision game I went into my personalised game page and hit play to rank the songs, only to get a party political advert for the Conservatives done in the style of advertising Kier as a doll essentially. It was saying he changes positions all the time, and the three positions it "highlighted" were environmentally conscious, then a remainer, then a Corbynite.

What planet are the people making this ad on? He's never been a Corbynite (for better and/or worse) and the other two are POSITIVES. Why not have a fourth one "economically sound"? Or even just "competent Kier"? I mean if you're going to make an advert for your party that claims that the opposition leader has positive traits liked by the majority of the populace why not go whole hog?

I thought at first (because it was muted) it was a Labour advert extolling the virtues of Kier's green policies and previous remain positioning.

Possibly not the best idea seeing as it'll be seen as copying the much funnier "InAction Man" meme about Sunak (Helecopter sold separately)
