Tory proposed National Conscription will have the same take up rate as the Rwanda scheme. Indeed, why not combine them and make immigrants do National Service?
 
Michelle Mone is to be VIP fast tracked to make the New National Service and volunteering uniforms.
 
It's supposed to appeal to the elderly electorate “a good dose in the army, that’ll sort them out”. Forgetting it’s their precious ‘grandkids’ too.
Oh no, not our Henry or Alice, they are nice kids, they don’t need this, they are going to University.
 
Speaking of Rees-Bogg, I had a look at Ladbrokes odds per constituency, and North East Somerset is handy odds-on to be won by Labour. Could be the 'Portillo moment'? Or is he switching constituencies?
 
I'd be amazed if this barking mad idea ever comes to fruition. My father (born in 1941) did national service and had nothing good to say about it.

The weekend volunteering under National Service can combine with those in work, who are completing community service sentences.
 
I would say that threatening 18 year old's with conscription is intended to drive them to do unpaid labour to fill gaps left in local services by years of cuts.

Weekend volunteering will probably be indistinguishable from a community service sentence.

And all the newly declared “undisabled” in the new “crack down” on welfare scroungers who claim to be ill.
 
If only he had been in the government that had been in power for over 14 years he could have cut our bills, but sadly he never was.
 
And if they had envisioned it only costing £3k per person per year, how does that work?

Don't they need wages? And extra accommodation?

First thing my mother asked - where are they going to live, there isn't enough accommodation for the current military!
 
Rishi says he would be very happy to see his own two daughters do their National Service
