Cont: Luton Airport Car Park Fire part II

Irrelevant to the point you wanted to prove, which was that someone might convert a diesel Range Rover to a hybrid. You have consistently failed to find a single example.

No. Your legendary attention to detail fails again. He does not say withdrawn. He says recalled. This did not mean the buses were taken out of service, as discussed at tedious length previously. Nor does he dispute the fault was with the HVAC system, he just notes the fire was at the rear of the bus where the battery is also located.

The video only confirms what we have already discussed. Why did you bother to post it?

The car that caused the Liverpool fire in 2018 had had its fuel source 'modified' according to the Liverpool Post, so I see no anomaly in considering whether the car fire at Luton was caused by a similar event.

A random YouTuber claims a "fire marshall" told him this? Well that's almost as convincing as a bloke down the pub told him. Must be true. Stands to reason, dunnit?

The question though is, if the "word has come from above" to suppress news of EV fires, is that from above Gatwick or above New York? Or is it above both? You know what's above both? Aliens. It's obvious when you think about it. This fire marshall has just let slip that we're secretly governed by aliens. Why are you fretting about trivia like some battery fires when we're in the middle of a full blown alien invasion?

We haven't been told anything more about the Gatwick Airport north terminal fire, have we, in which eleven cars were destroyed owing to an 'accidental ignition'. Why not?

You failed that logic test. Oregon law requires drivers to use or carry traction tires or chains on the signed roads throughout the specified season, regardless of whether those signs are lighted. (Most are not lighted.)

Myriad may have expected you to fail that logic test in a different way. You failed it by asserting multiple non-facts.

Oregon law requires snow tires or chains to be carried throughout the season, regardless of whether it is snowing or has been snowing or is expected to snow anytime soon. I warned an out-of-state truck driver about this. He ignored my warning, was stopped for a routine tire/chains check in perfectly clear weather, and fined $500 when found not to be carrying chains.

OK, fair enough.

I'm not sure if the discussion on Winter tires can become even worse, but let's just point out that Norway, Sweden and Iceland are at the top when it comes to EV car adoption. Apparently a requirement to change tires twice a year is not as big a challenge for Norwegians or Swedes as it is for Finns.

Then of course you don't wait until the snow actually arrives to change your tires - the rubber mixture is different in summer vs winter tires so you change based on the average temperature. Summer tires are too hard when it's cold. Winter tires too soft when it's worm. Knowledge about average season changes, and the weather forecast gives you ample warning to switch.

We still have winter tires on our two EVs, since snow is expected tomorrow, but I'll probably switch them in a week or so.

As an aside, some people here thought Spring had truly arrived and had already changed back to summer tyres. I read in the papers today that police have now fined five motorists for driving with summer tyres...because overnight we had a massive downpour of snow! My appointment for tyre change is next week as I am wise to the phenomenon of 'second' (and third and fourth) Spring.

FWIW I put the summer wheels back on my car three weeks ago and have an appointment for tomorrow morning to change the wheels on Madame's car. I always stagger the timings and once again I'm glad I did because when I was up in the mountains the middle of last week the conditions were awful and even with 4WD things were a bit slippery offroad.

Not that we know anything about wintry conditions in Switzerland, of course.

A mountainous region, no?

Still not able to back up your claim with evidence then? Because this doesn't answer the question in the slightest.

No, the weaselly nonsense is yours. She said she needed a larger car because 'I need extra boot space for my wheelchair and hoist', nothing about it being heavier because it's electric.

The 2014 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 involved in the Luton Airport carpark fire had a curb weight of 2115 kg and a 'massive' boot space of 900 liters. The Tesla Model Y has a curb weight of 1984 kg (6% lighter) and boot space of 854 liters (5% less).

In comparison, my old 2011 Nissan Leaf has a curb weight of 1600 kg and boot space of 330 liters. The closest contemporary Nissan gas car was the Qashqai. With a 1.6l diesel engine it weighed 1518 kg and had a boot space of 410 liters.

So my Leaf only weighs ~5% more than the Qashqai. However the boot space is restricted by the battery size.

Battery technology has improved a lot since then. Later model Leafs had longer range and a larger boot with no weight increase. The 2017-2024 Leaf has a kerb weight of 1594 kg and boot space of 405 liters. Range is 70% higher, and the battery has much lower degradation than first generation Leafs.

'Everybody' has already been doing that with ICE cars.

American Cars Are Developing a Serious Weight ProblemThe only problem with EVs right now is people wanting stupidly large batteries to assuage their range anxiety. But as my Leaf example shows, batteries are getting better. In 6 years Nissan added 70% more range with a size decrease and no weight increase. They are also getting safer, cheaper, and lasting longer. BYD just announced that their latest batteries will have a 1 million mile warranty.

Lithium Phosphate batteries are much harder to set on fire than Li-ion. If that Range Rover had been a modern EV this disaster might not have happened! Rover have a fully electric Range Rover planned for next year.

Do you have a citation for the highlighted?

There's an anomaly if you keep wondering after it's been confirmed that it wasn't.

Are you under the impression that snow only accumulates in mountains? You do remember that the origin of this whole tangent was your utterly wrong statement about the U.S. not experiencing snow for more than a couple of days at a time, right?

I doubt it, the past only exists for Vixen when it's convenient.

Irrelevant. You appear to be deliberately missing the point.

The obstacle you keep banging your head against is not "Could a diesel Range Rover be modified?" rather it's "Does anyone ever convert a diesel into a diesel hybrid?".

Available evidence suggests the answer to that question is "No, nobody does that".

So having had quite some time to consider whether the fire at Luton was caused by a home-made conversion to diesel hybrid, and having searched but failed to discover any single example of anyone anywhere doing that conversion to any car ever, have you begun to form any opinion on its likelihood?

About five years ago I had an exchange on YouTube with an Apollo denier who, while badly losing the argument, claimed to have an IQ of "almost 200". After a bit of probing, it turned out he'd taken one of those click-bait "IQ tests" in a pop-up window. Now those "tests" typically tell those who complete them that they have an IQ of around 130 because the designers want people to be proud enough to tell their friends so maybe they'll take it too, because it's really just there to lure people into seeing ads. One writer who looked into the matter found that when he'd deliberately answered every question wrong, it still said he had an IQ of 115. But I still wondered how this guy came up with "almost 200". He eventually admitted that he hadn't finished the "long ass test" (they're usually about 20 - 25 questions) and had, somehow, extrapolated that he would have scored around 200 based on his running total, because, of course, actual IQ tests have running totals.

Based on the quality of her arguments, I doubt there's much, if any, scientific validity to the "logic tests" Vixen has taken. You'd think that someone who'd scored so well in any sort of valid tests of reasoning ability would understand that hearsay from someone she doesn't know, acquired from some place she can't remember, about an anonymous source who hasn't even been demonstrated to exist, doesn't even remotely qualify as supporting evidence.

The tests were all 'normed' and not online ones.

The guy tool a photo of the burnt-out Tesla at Gatwick Airport north terminal. Of course the claim there is an embargo is supposition. But we haven't been told what caused the Gatwick fire other than 'accidental ignition'. I have no great love of the so-called working classes but I can see their point about their genuine concerns being treated dismissively.

What were these tests, where did you take them and why?

Yes. Of course it is supposition. Is that supposition realistic? I think not.

You may remember my posting some London fire brigade statistics indicating they attend many hundreds of car fires per year. What proportion of car fires do you suppose the national newspapers inform us about? What proportion of those which they do report do you suppose the press later revisit with updates?

Who takes "logic tests" routinely enough to have established a trend of "near maximum" performances? What even is a "logic test?" Aside from the clickbait online tests, the only specific test of logical reasoning I know of is the LSAT. If you're scoring "near maximum" on it, there's no reason to take it again.

Based on the various entrance tests, 11-plus, entrance exam to take Psychology, Civil Service Fast-Track exam and for two social clubs. None of them were online.

What do you think we aren't being told about it?
