The Russian Invasion of Ukraine Part 4

Throwing some cannon fodder against a brick wall is not a counter-offensive.

Ah, the "no true counteroffensive" ploy

Somewhere upthread I listed a number of excuses that would be found to explain away the Ukrainian counteroffensive if and when it came about. I think a couple have already been ticked off.

You prayed for it since months, how they would "liberate" Kherson and Crimea and the Donbass, and even tried to mock me for telling you that it won't happen, and now "it" happened, and it was another slaughter of victims sent to the meat grinder because of the scum in Kiev and their masters. This is all senseless cruelty.

So it hasn't happened and it has happened at the same time ?

A counteroffensive doesn't have to be successful to exist, so which is it ?

Are the Russians lying about successfully repelling a Ukrainian counteroffensive ?

edited to add......

Here is the post I was remembering:

IMO even if Ukraine was able to launch a successful, large scale, counteroffensive, it would be handwaved away. Various reasons would be given, it's a strategic withdrawal by Russia, it's fake news and Russia still holds the area, it's not a counteroffensive - it's localised resistance that will soon be mopped up, it's not a Ukrainian counteroffensive - it's a NATO counteroffensive, it's just Poland invading.

Indeed, all of it - on both sides - the fault of the nation that made an unprovoked and brutal attack on a neighbouring sovereign nation.

The Don. Seriously. Self-reflection.

Says the poster one of whose few predictions specific enough to be verifiable has just been shown to be 100% wrong and who still can't admit it.

It's going to be a while - weeks at least - before we can reliably assess the success or failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The thoughts of every sane and compassionate person on the planet will be with those brave Ukrainian soldiers.

From yesterday's ISW assessment:

Ukrainian forces have long undertaken efforts to destroy Russian ground lines of communication (GLOCs) prior to the announcement of the counteroffensive operation, which likely indicates that Ukrainian forces are committed to a long-term effort - composed of both strikes and ground assaults. Ukrainian strikes on Russian GLOCs disrupt the Russians’ ability to supply and reinforce their positions with manpower and equipment, which will assist Ukrainian ground counteroffensives. Satellite imagery shows that Russian forces are continuing to use ferries to transfer a limited amount of military equipment daily via the Dnipro River.

The Ukrainian counteroffensive is thus a cohesive process that will require some time to correctly execute. The Kremlin will likely exploit the lack of immediate victory over Kherson City or Ukrainian operational silence on the progress of the Ukrainian counteroffensive to misrepresent Ukrainian efforts as failing and to undermine public confidence in its prospects. How is Siversk coming along?

You may recall this falsehood that you tried to pass on to me:
I don't "lag behind", I wait for evidence to come in while you seem to swallow everything the mighty Wurlitzer puts out.

Some seriously refer to twitter accounts called "EuromaidanPR".

Most time I'm far ahead of these silly claims, like with Siversk taken over by anti-Kiev forces. This is still not officially claimed, but if you read between the lines, the situation seems like the roads from and to the city are controlled by the anti-Kiev forces. And they are still fighting about positions on some hills near the city. You will hear about it in a week or so by some whining pre$$titutes.

And notice that I don't write "Russian forces", because a lot of the fighting is done by formal Ukrainians, the People's Republics militias some (like me, in case you wondered) call "Opolchenie".
That was 5 weeks ago. Well?

It's in the Russian propaganda claims regarding the success they've had in repelling said counteroffensive.

I guess, deep down we all know that the Russian MoD is not -- shall we say -- the most trustworthy of sources.

How is Siversk coming along?

I'm sure it's under the control of anti-Kyiv Ukrainian forces.

The fact that it still appears to those of us in the West consuming the mainstream media to still be under the control of the Ukrainian government is a clear indication of how far under the control of (((the usual suspects))) the Western Pre$$titutes are. ;)

Ha, I just about to post that, with the same highlighting

The usual propaganda nonsense. A quick reverse image search delivers several instances of that photo. Here is one from October 2018. Translate it yourself...

My translation reads: In the photo - young people who received a deferment from military service. The conscription commission of the Krasnoselsky district

So these children are still conscripts correct?

The picture is at least from 2018. Nobody (at least not me) cares what it shows. It has nothing to do with what "EuromaidanPress" sold you on twitter, that is for sure.

Your own link says these children are conscripts - is that correct or not?

They look like 18 year olds to me. Or at least the way I look in photos from when I was 18. And the way I remember a lot of my basic training cohort looked, after we arrived at reception and before we got our uniforms and haircuts.

Is it a problem if I don't think this photo is anything to be outraged over, regardless of its provenance?
