Well... the plot thins.

Turns out the men who murdered the black man are SHOCKINGLY RACIST. Like the loud and proud kind of racist.
How racist? Well I grew up in the South and I learned a new racial slur from them.

What was that adopted French phrase again... oh yes... "Quelle Surprise"

ETA: Of course, the usual suspects will be along soon to tell us all that just because they call black people the n-word, and use the term "bootlip" (yep, that was new to me too) to describe them, this in no way can be interpreted as them being racist.

That's a new one for me too. When you run out of conventional slurs and have to add a new one, it makes the job a little harder. I think even the most skilled apologists will find it difficult to drive their tanks straight through that tangle.

Call yourself a sceptic?

You are so quick to jump on racism being the reason for these texts and other messages. Perhaps they had taken one of the many drugs that in the USA are known to have a side effect of causing racism, or they were civil-war era LARPers practicing their roles as they were meant to be in the KKK, or they were collaborating on authoring a novel set in the civil-rights era and they were exchanging dialogue for their characters.

There are so many perfectly reasonable reasons for them making racist comments, you need to provide much more evidence before we can conclude that they are really racist racists.

I don't like that the article uses a phrase like "Federal prosecutors and Arbery's family have said he was out for a jog when he was killed." After the guilty verdict there is no reason at all to not say that "Arbery was out jogging when he was murdered in cold blood by the two racists".

Were you able to keep a straight face while you were writing that?

I was also not familiar with this particular slur, though I've heard other slurs based on mocking the facial features of black people in my joyful time in the South.

It's probably for the best that the federal plea fell through. The outrageously racist element of the murder was not as heavily explored in the state trial, which revolved around charges that did not require proving any racial animus. A federal trial will lay it all bare.

I recall back to the early days of a thread about this murder in which it was considered outrageous that racism played any role in the McMichaels' wild overreaction to seeing a black man jog down their street. I suppose other factors could have explained why these people made the huge leaps of logic that they did, but racism remains now, as it was then, the most likely explanation.

Well yet again the "No I'm totes not racist believe me, I've just declared myself part of the on-call 'make sure nobody is being too not-racist' attack force" have made fools of themselves yet will still perform the exact same function, note for note, over the body of the next dead black guy.

This is much less problematic than the "We blame everything on racism, ensuring that people scoff at the claim" task force. That one rises to every occasion.

Again "I've convinced myself the race card is overplayed so I get to be racist" is racists, even if it's true.

A bit like the parent that thinks kids these days have it too easy and uses that as an excuse to beat their child. Even if you are right on the first part, the second part still makes you guilty of child abuse.

Indeed it will.

If Cletus, Bubba and Billibob do appeal their convictions, evidence and witnesses from this trial could be used during the appeal.

Yeah, I wonder if there is anyone left who still thinks Arbery's mile time has any relevance! :D

I'm a bit surprised that the man who contributed the least to his death is probably the most racist of all of them. I hope Roddie enjoys his time behind bars.

Yeah but "The Left Plays the Race Card too Much... therefore I get to be just a little racist, you know as a treat" is a big part of their routine.
