Hey I'd be happier if the media was more diverse, but just because media channels have a small number of owners, that only becomes a big problem when those owners control editorial policy.
Giving a certain channel a slant towards left or right is fine, but making up stories out of whole cloth or just refusing to report on other stories they don't like is not.
Stories must be based upon facts. Stories need to be verified as accurate before being broadcast to a wide audience.
Wingnut news sources frequently make things up, they very often publish stories they agree with, without checking to see if they are true.
Like everything else in life you get what you pay for, and if your news sources are free, then the quality of news you get is likely to be very poor.
We live in a world where a great many people lack critical thinking skills, and will give the same level of trust to a forwarded post on facebook or twitter as they do to the lead story on CNN or a 4 page expose in the Guardian.
That is a huge problem.
It's an over used trope from wingnut news that because the MSM has a a few billionaire owners that they insidiously control all the news, and that only the wingnuts are FREE to tell you the TRUTH!
Like almost everything they publish, that's just more unsubstantiated rubbish.
Show some evidence for why a thing is so, or shut up and **** off.
Seriously if a small indie news operation did the hard work and dug up some great evidence on how and why and by who the MSM is corrupt and untrustworthy they'd win Pulitzers galore.
The fact that they don't do that is very telling.
